The atmosphere is basically run down pub but the food is amazing. I always get the Rib Eye Sizzling and it is always amazing. Pricey but not as pricey as Sparks, Peter Luger, Ruth’s Chris, etc. but GREAT steaks and accurately cooked.

Historic South Bergen Bar and Steakhouse. I was introduced to this place years ago when the bartender, Joe, used to buy fish from me every Friday at the A&P.(My high school and college years job — loved it!) Joe was a class act, true gentleman behind the bar, gracious, hospitable, and spiffy in tux jacket and bow tie. Joe has passed many years now but his presence still looms large. Today had a wonderful medium rare 12oz fillet for lunch with my wife and friends — celebrating our 21st wedding anniversary. You can’t go wrong with Steve’s. Great food, great people!

I ordered the six oz fillet medium rare. It came out rare. The steak fries were soaked in the blood of the steak making them soggy. I could have lived with the soggy fries, but a steak house should know how to cook a steak. My husband ordered the NY Strip also medium rare. His was also cooked rare. He didn’t send his back. He also had onion rings that were soggy from the sauce. And salty. In fairness the menu does state that the sauce is on the salty side. But if you have high blood pressure make sure to order without the sauce otherwise you will require more medication. I enjoyed my glass of cab that I ordered specifically to have while eating, sadly I was never offered another. I think something should have been offered for the inconvenience of the additional wait. Unfortunately for us a table of nine men were seated near us shortly after our salads arrived and we were unable to hear our conversation as the party was very loud. So while we were excited to try this place, I probably won’t return as I don’t think it was worth the money or the time. Nor do I think the effort was made to make up for the fact that my husband was done with his meal before mine arrived.

Cozy little place with easy access parking off of 17. Their special sauce is what keeps me coming back for more and more steak. New York strip cooked to perfection with mushroom is my favorite. Fries battered in home sauce is addicting. Friendly staff and great service every time I come here. Good selection of wine and beer.

This place is a gem! No wonder it has been around for almost 100 years! The first time I went here my friend said«I don’t know if you will like it, it is rustic, shotguns and fishing poles type if place» I said«actually I like that.»…everytime I go I check out all the pictures on the walls. The steaks are absolutely fantastic! I recommend the large filet done medium rare, and a cold beer of your choice! Love Steves!!!

Stopped in for dinner on Saturday night. What can I say, one of the best steaks around. My wife and I sat at the bar, I like sitting at bar because you can have a conversation with other people. Now on to the food, I ordered the NY strip while my wife ordered the ribeye. The steaks came out sizzling as always, the steak fries soaked in the juices from the steak were delicious. The mushrooms add the right touch of garnish to the meal. However you order your steak, I suggest you order it one stage less cooked than you normally order. The reason I say this is because the steak comes out on that hot metal plate, while you’re eating it or letting it cool, the steak continues to cook, so it may get over done. Overall I’ve been coming here for years, and I will continue to patronize the restaurant.

First impression, really liked the atmosphere. Second impression, really hated the atmosphere. Felt like ordering a beer and a cocktail put the bartender out. Then the meal… Ordered cowboy steak and shrimp cocktail. Tough meat, tasted like it was pan fried, previously frozen, $ 40 just for the steak, which would have been fine if cooked well. Shrimp cocktail had no flavor. The cocktail sauce was horrible. Asked for extra horseradish, which was so old it had lost all flavor. Atmosphere was non inviting and indifferent, so we just paid our $ 80 tab and left. Disappointing to say the least People wonder why anybody would go to a franchise steakhouse like outback or longhorn, because while it may not be magnificent, it is consistent and they seek to please.

Food portions were big with matching price but the place smelled horrible. Not worth eating in, maybe just order for takeout.

I normally love this place, unfortunately our steaks were ready before we got our salads. That was disappointing.

I don’t get all the hype here. Sure the steak was good but it certainly wasn’t great or memorable in my opinion. We came on a Saturday evening around 5 and it was a good time to come since the place filled out very quickly right after we sat down and people were waiting for tables when we were leaving. Service was decent. You get your regular slice of bread with your butter. And your steak comes with a side of salad and french fries. We ordered our steak median well and it was overcooked so it was a bit dry. The flavor was good. A bit too salty in my opinion but good. French fries were thickly cut and very salty. Overall, steak was good. But I wouldn’t come out of my way for this one.

Nondescript hidden gem right on Route 17. This place is a real surprise. It doesn’t look like much on the outside, but this place serves some pretty good steaks. They’ve also got a few other nice items on the menu, including some tasty fried shrimp. Well worth a visit for any meat lovers.

I think this place is love it or hate it type of restaurant. I personally love it. The place really is a piece of Americana. It has a very uncomplicated old American feel backed by its heritage in hunting traditions in this locale. Food is quite the same. It’s marinated steak which has a bold salty taste, miles away from sophistication you may witness at some NYC steak restaurants with its aged Kobe beef. Similarly, the salad and food that it serves are very simple For example, the salad that comes with a steak is just a some lettuce with tomatoes. Steak comes with huge steak fries. Just don’t expect any fancy food here at all… As I said the stake is bit salty. If you don’t enjoy salty food, you probably will not enjoy the steaks here. It has a distinct flavor that I personally really enjoy. And I don’t know much about beef, but I do believe they are decent cuts. And mushrooms? Yeah, maybe it’s coming out of bottles/cans, but I kind of enjoy it. So, in summary, if you want some fancy steaks and sides, this is probably not for you. But if you want to throw back your Budweiser/Coors with a nice American steak and some steak fries for reasonable prices, this place may be for you. (Oh I love the wait staff and bartenders here. It feels like a neighborhood bar.)

Hidden gem. I absolutely love this place! The staff is very friendly and quick to assist you with your order. The steaks are absolutely delicious as they have a «special sauce» that goes over it. I always ask for extra on the side since I cannot get enough of it. I usually go for the filet or porter house and it is always perfectly cooked to order just the way I like it. I usually ask for mushrooms, cherry peppers, & onions on top which definitely compliments the steak. This is not a fancy place but definitely worth trying as they serve delicious steaks in a very laid back environment.

So I’ve been here a few times and every time I’ve eaten here I left there satisfied but unfulfilled. It has all the elements to be truly A+ but what build that barrier? Nom Nom Nom. After multiple attempts I figured out that I am probably one of the few patrons who actually do not like the special seasoning. To me… it’s salty and way to overpowering. Taking away from the robust flavor of the steak. So — will I return? Probably — but only with friends who look at this landmark as a point of interest.

Decided to dine at Steve’s Sizzling… The waitress seemed bored, really didn’t stick around once she dropped off the menu(bummer). Par for the course I guess, pretty simple menu. I ordered the hot cherry peppers prior to my steak and believe me the peppers were HOT, and delicious. The waitress did chime in and tell me I’m in for a real treat with the sweet peppers. She was absolutely right and then some. On to my steak, filet mignon. One of the best steaks I’ve ever had. Kudos to Steve’s, I will definitely go back and tell anyone to drop Byars enjoy a tasty steak. Overall the food is the selling point of course, and it’s speaks for itself. Just go, and enjoy an awesome meal.

I have also driven past this location for years now and have always wondered how good are Steve’s Sizzling Steaks. well let me tell you my filet was dam good. Myself and two girlfriends went here last Monday night for a much needed girls night to kick back unwind and eat some meat! After trying to find a parking spot we decided we would need a fiat or smart car to fit in the spots that were left and parked on the street near by. Upon arrival we were greeted by the hostess and she escorted us to the back room where we sat in what I like to call a lovely room of death as Ace Ventura puts it in when nature calls.(didn’t bother me too much. my family hunts so I’m used to taxidermied animals) We sat down at our table and looked over the menu. As I was skimming the menu the waitress walked by with a sizzling hot plate with a huge steak on it. my mouth started to water immediately. I decided on the crab cakes for my appetizer, and the filet mignon with onion rings instead of fries along with a side of creamed spinach. The crab cakes were fabulous and chock full of jumbo lump crab meat and served with cocktail sauce(maybe homemade). The crisp exterior with the soft lump crab meat was the perfect start to my meal. All steaks come with a side salad and they have many dressings to choose from. I got the blue cheese and it was delicious and fresh with small chunks. My friends ordered the french onion soup and let me have a taste. If you really enjoy french onion soup don’t pass this one up it was really really good and cheesy. Once we were done with our apps and soups and salad out came our glorious sizzling hot steaks. My friend had told me about the sizzling steak sauce and that it can be viewed by some on the salty side, I decided to take the risk and I’m happy I did. As many others have said I too agree that there is some sort of soy sauce action going on here but it was delicious and addicting. My steak came out pipping hot and tender cooked to a perfect medium with little mushrooms and huge crispy onion rings that got a little wet from the salty sauce on the plate but that just made them even better. My creamed spinach was really tasty but I would of enjoyed it more if it was a little hotter. My friend Kristina got the ribeye and let me have a piece, it was like butter. I loved everything so much I left nothing on the plate as you can see in my picture. The steak here is 5 star quality and the only thing holding me back from the 5 star review is the décor. It is a little outdated and man cave-ish. There is plenty of natural wood and gun décor as Yves said in his review and I too agree this is probably the manliest place you can eat a steak in Northern Jersey. Can’t wait to come back and get that ribeye for myself.

FYI: The sizzling steak sauce is on the salty side. They give you the option to opt out if you don’t want it though. If you have an aversion to salt, opt out. Don’t come on here and complain about it because everyone has made it crystal clear in their reviews that the steak sauce is salty. Personally, I liked the sauce. It’s definitely some kind of soy sauce concoction as other reviewers have mentioned. I found it very flavorful though and dipped my healthy, steamed broccoli in it. I came here on a Monday with 2 of my friends. I got the ribeye and they got the filet mignon. All the cuts of meat were excellent, not a lot of fat or gristle on mine. Steaks come with a side salad, a couple of mushrooms and steak fries. I got broccoli instead of fries. My friend got the creamed spinach which was very good and the crab cake app which was very good as well. I also got the french onion soup as an app which I thought was pretty standard. Prices were reasonable. The 8 ounce filet mignon was $ 26 while my 16 ounce ribeye was also $ 26. Service was good but it was a Monday and not busy. I will definitely be back.
