Absolutely worth 5 stars. Our party was 5 adults, and 1 child, only a couple minute wait while they pushed a couple tables and set it for us. We sat outside on the patio with a giant heater next to our table and we were promptly served our drinks(to die for hot chocolate). The owner was present and we talked to him quite a bit as he frequently checked on our table to make sure we were enjoying our visit. This place lives up to being on Diners, drive ins, and drives, and my family wants to go back tomorrow and try something else! My mother had the breakfast roll, it was huge and delicious, my dad had the triple d special(guys sug gestion) with cheese grits, I couldn’t help but continue to steal bites while he wasn’t looking, the chili could have been my whole breakfast! My girlfriend had 2 eggs with biscuits and gravy, and it was literally the best biscuits and gravy I’ve ever put in my mouth. They make their sausage in the restaurant freshly grinded! I had the huevos rancheros with chorizo, 2 thumbs up, I cleared my plate. My niece had blueberry cheese crepes, the plate was covered in fruit(bananas, grapes, berries, melon, and strawberries), I of course had to sample this too! Last my son had scrambled eggs with bacon and their house red potatoes and it was great! The owner overheard our conversation about a very expensive coffee cup my dad had just purchased, and how he collected the cups and brought him out a from scratch coffee cup to add to his collection, on the house! I highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a great place to eat, and we will now be making this a regular spot on our yearly visit to Monterey!

Tried a new breakfast place in Carmel for the first time ever and this place DIDNOT disappoint! I was afraid to order my favorite Carmel breakfast so I went out of my comfort zone and ordered the Hueavos Ranchos. Although I have made it once before I have never ordered it out. Since my basic breakfast(eggs OE and toast) was almost the same price as all the other breakfasts and I wasn’t up for sweet I went for something totally different. I ordered it with the homemade chorizo which was tasty but with all the other flavors for me it wasn’t needed. The pico de gallo, sour cream, avocado slices, OE eggs, black beans, crispy corn tortillas and corn tortillas on the side couldn’t have been better. Going forward I will have to spend two mornings in Carmel in order to hit both places. Location aside, it will be a tough decision to choose one based on food. Hubby had the biscuits and gravy which was what we came for. The sausage patty was the best I’ve ever had, it had very different flavors, slightly sweet but the rest is unknown. I only know it was great. The biscuits were also top notch, my only regret was that they didn’t put enough gravy on top. They used it more as a spread, like condiments on a sandwich so I’ll ask for more next time if I get to order it. Hubby is already talking about trying the breakfast burrito next visit. Keep up the good work and keep it «From Scratch».

Came here for breakfast today and got the huevos rancheros with housemade chorizo. The food was delicious and the serving size was huge! It was cooked perfectly to order — they ask how you want your eggs cooked — and it arrived in only about 10 or 15 minutes. The server was super friendly and helpful. I can’t wait to come back!

Diners, Drive Ins and Dives approved!!! Wow. Just can’t say enough good about this place. Where do I begin? Biscuits and Gravy come to mind. I don’t know what the secret is but there is no need to go to the South or Midwest to look for the best Biscuits and Gravy. From Scratch has it covered. You won’t be disappointed with anything you order here. Bring your appetite. If there is a wait, then just wait! It’s worth it.

This place has great customer service our waiter was friendly happy and accommodating, the food presentation was pleasing and the amount you get is more than enough, HOWEVER, 2 stars knocked off once the food hit my mouth. I ordered the crab Benedict and was excited because I love had delicious benedicts elsewhere and this does not compare, it was just bland, the crab tasted frozen in mouth and the muffin was rock hard so I literally had to saw each piece. Banana pancake… I thought the batter would have that all around banana flavor but the banana came from several slices spread throughout. Just OK experience no wow factor or the urge to come back… First awakenings it still my best bed for great breakfast

Came here for lunch(I really want to come back for breakfast/brunch) and ordered the Tuna Wrap with a side of Asian slaw. The wraps are huge and I was full after half of one(it’s practically two wraps). The Asian slaw was good but pretty heavy on the dressing so it really balanced out my sometimes dry tasting tuna(glad they didn’t put too much mayo in it). There’s also a couple of long dill pickle slices on the side you can slide into the wrap.

This place was featured on Diners Drive Ins and Dives so it was on our list of must tries for the Carmel area. We waited twice as long than told for a table, but we did get an outdoor table after I had to request it again, in the cute garden court next to a heater. Perfect for a Saturday brunch. I ordered the triple d special so my husband and I could both taste their award winning chili, and he ordered the chorizo and egg breakfast. While our service was slow and waitress inattentive, our food was absolutely amazing! With bloody Mary’s to boot, we thoroughly enjoyed our meals. Ambiance, lovely. Food, fantastic! Waitress, slow and practically nonexistent when needed. Advice to restaurant, get the staff in the know of what will get you that fifth star cuz your place is great but service is a bit lack luster. On a lighter note, chorizo was great. Spiced well, not greasy. Biscuits and gravy were the best I’ve ever had! The sausage was so good I told my husband to ask for the recipe! The chili? Definitely can see why it was award winning! So good, I could have taken a big bowl to go and eaten more for dinner later! It needed nothing added! Even the sour cream didn’t need to be there, it was so good! The chef in this kitchen has serious skills!

Tasty, but too hasty. Read a lot about the place, was excited to try. My group ordered from all over the menu. Food ordered: Crab Benedict, Turkey Benedict, the triple D, French toast, the Breakfast Roll, and Huevos Rancheros. Everything, delicious. The coffee wasn’t special, but the food was the true star of the show. Overall, everyone had a taste and say in regard to all the food— the verdict: delicious. Why I’m only giving 3 stars: It would have been great if my party could have finished the aforementioned delicious food. It just put a bitter end to our dining experience when two people at my table weren’t able to finish their plates because the plates were taken away too soon(they still had a fourth of their plate left). I understand that it’s a popular place but when we tried to find someone to talk to about it, there was no one to be found. Everyone who worked there was too busy. Quite unfortunate. Had costumer service been better or we had just gotten to finish our meal, I would have definitely rated higher.

Great homie breakfast that was suggested by the locals. Whenever traveling, I always ask the locals where they eat. Large portions and friendly staff.

Came here about a month ago for some breakfast! The reviews stand true, it was full of old folks who wanted their morning coffee. Ambience(5⁄5): Like you’re at your grandmas house! Had a warm fireplace, or a patio if you wanna bring a furry friend! Service(5⁄5): We ordered a pancake and thought it came with fruit, so we were disappointed when it didn’t. The waitress was very observant and came right away with a bowl of fresh fruit, without us even having to ask! Amazing! Food: Apple juice(5⁄5): how can you mess up Apple juice? It came in a fancy glass and was very tasty! Crab Benedict(4⁄5): mistook it for a Crab Cake Benedict. It was a little too fishy for me, but the biscuits and sauce were perfect! Pancake(5⁄5): the pancakes are HUGE! We got the house special which apparently is just their own special recipe, and it does NOT come with fresh fruit. Was absolutely the best pancake I’ve ever had, worth it! Overall, good food and a very homey atmosphere. Would come again for the pancakes!

You can definitely scratch this one off the list. The first time we ate there it was fantastic food. Raved about it to everyone. This time we notice new ownership. We’re still willing to give it a try. Food came out warm not hot and fresh. Potatoes were cold and omelet, the chesse was not all melted in the middle. This meal was cooked and thought the cheese would melt from the heat of the eggs. This is definitely not up to food channel standards. When hostess came to enquire about our meal, we told her it sat in the window too long because it was not hot. She then proceeded to cop an attitude with us and stared at me the rest of the meal. WEWON’T BEBACK. My husband and I both have cooked in the industry and this is not how you treat your patrons. It gets a thumbs down from us today.

I called the restaurant while we were on the road pn a Saturday morning and asked if they take reservations. Silly me! I was surprised they said we should be fine if we got there in the next half hour. We arrived around 11 and we were seated immediately inside. Actually, there was quite a good number of open tables for a Saturday morning. I ordered my usual staple, egg white omelete with mushrooms, onions, spinach and I remembered thinking the potatoes were cooked perfectly. Crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Service was very friendly and attentive. I just remember thinking the size of the table was way too small and worried it might not fit all our food. It barely did and I was thankful we didn’t order an extra pancake or something. It was actually a little warm inside the restaurant. It would’ve be better if they had fans or something. Anyways, next visit, I hope to sit outside on their cute patio.

Excellent brunch at this amazing restaurant! Another pic from Guy’s «Diners, Drive-ins and Dives» though we didn’t know it until we got there. I got the Santa Cruz omelet with cheese grits. Did not disappoint! Boysenberry jam was fabulous. DH got the skillet, DS the pancake and DD2 eggs with sausage. She raved over the cheese biscuits! Sure you have to wait about 15 – 30 min to be seated… But it’s well worth it!!!

3.5 stars coming from the Bay Area drives around the coast are always pleasant, The weather was similar to that of Daly City on a normal day, fog with a peak of sun here and there. The location for place is very quaint, large open shopping type mall, fairly large and small boutiques in the area, not you standford type shopping mall of all brand names there are shops that seem to be more on the local side offering cute clothes, furniture and what nots. The restaurant is located on lower level, you can sit in the fog outside or inside, both sections are relatively spacious couple tables and 3 – 4 sized tables seem to be the norm, we were seated indoors next to the window, wait was around hour and 15 minutes given it was mothers day, the wait was expected. This place was televised by Guy Fieri and a pan has his liking drawn/spray painted on their wall Lets down to the food… The Chili — I would order this again, just a small cup but it was enough for me to say these are one of the better chilli bowls that I have tried, semi thick pieces of meat, beans, and that dark burgundy sauce… the chilli almost taste smoked, salted but not to salty, the cheese and sourcream was poured in the middle and sinks when you start to move the spoon. Again I would order this as a main dish next time The pancakes(buyer beware 1 pancake can feed a grown man) didn’t expect these pancakes to be this big, we ordered 3 for my son thinking they would be about 3 – 4 inches across sadly they were at least 8 – 9 inches across, fluffy, caky, delicious! The crab omelette — sadly I will not order this item again, the combo of egg with swiss, crab meat and mushrooms kinda through me off, the overpowering of the mushrooms made the omelette lose the taste of the crab/cheese, decently portioned, just ingredients wise this was not the best mesh of flavors The famous biscuits and gravy — featured in the show DriveInns Diners and Dives was decent, portion wise I though another two biscuits with the patties and country gravy would have been perfect. The country gravy was good, heavy, creamy, bits of ground beef. The patties were ok, the biscuit on the bottom was also good, for me I just though the portion was a tad on the small side but other then that the dish was good. On a whole this is a place nice for kids, and couples, you can walk around while you wait for your table they will text you when your table becomes available food ***½ — the Chili is what you want, the crab omelette I would stay away from, the pancakes are huge, the biscuits n gravy ask for 2 more patties to make it a complete plate price $$ service **** very helpful staff ambiance ***** your in carmel what is there not to like!!, open spacious, sit outside or indoor both are decent picks

I got a pebble peach omelette(crab, yum!) potatoes and a cheddar buttermilk biscuit and it was all SOGOOD. The last few times I had dishes with crab in it, I was disappointed – but not here. Both quantity and quality were spot on! And the biscuit. Look. I wanted to be healthy and just have wheat toast, but when our server started rattling off options… well, my will was weak. But it’s made from scratch, come on! I liked the cozy atmosphere of the interior. It was a cold day, so no one was sitting outside on the patio but there were fresh tulips on every table.
