I don’t know how to knit and my niece needed help completing a project. This shop was suggested to me by my hair dresser so we ventured out one Sunday morning and had the blessing of meeting Tammy who spent an hour one on one with us. We can’t wait to come back! My niece is inspired to get started on a new project and we will surely come out to the drop in sessions on Tuesdays. Worth the drive if you don’t live in the SNOQUALMIE Valley and if you do… check it out and shop local.

I do not know how the existence of this yarn shop had escaped my notice until recently, but, now that I am aware, look out, wallet. Tolt Yarn and Wool is about a forty-minute drive, realistically, from downtown Seattle, nestled in the tiny main drag of a small town, and it is worth every minute of the(mostly very pretty anyway) drive. They carry a wide selection of hard-to-find local yarns(including their own yarn, Yarn on the House, and Bumblebirch, one of my favorite Portland dyers). They also have every conceivable variety of Quince and Co. And Brooklyn Tweed, and a big selection of other yarns as well. Lots of samples around to inspire you, comfortable places to sit and knit, friendly and helpful staff, and a really pleasing store layout and aesthetic. I can’t praise this place enough.

I was passing through Carnation and came upon this great little yarn store. Wide selection, friendly and helpful staff. From the look of it I imagine you’re encouraged to stay a while, knitting & such. Plus they were playing Ratatat… doesn’t get much better.

My daughter and I finally got out to see this shop. It’s Carnation location is a ways, but that also gives it a unique country character that perfectly suits a yarn store. Tolt Yarn and Wool is located right on the main drag in an older building. The store is spacious and brimming with charm. There is a large table for classes as well as several comfy chairs scattered around the shop. The usual suspects are available– I spotted Cascade, Malabrigo and Swans Island yarns. But they also had both local yarns AND yarns from around the globe including yarns from Iceland, Britain, Ireland and Portugal. They definitely favor wool — 100% wool. There were some alpaca/wool blends, but very little cotton, bamboo, hemp, etc. nor was there much silk or mohair. And no exotics like New Zealand possum or angora. Which is fine. Exotics are neat, but how often does the average knitter buy and knit with them? We have a great store just a mile from us, so won’t be going to this shop every week. But we WILL be making a special effort to return now that we’ve seen how nice it is.

Best yarn shop I’ve seen and I’ve been to yarn shops all over the country and in other countries.

I love this place and I’m not even that much of a knitter. I recently purchased some yarn here because my son begged me to knit him a scarf. We went together, and my son who is very energetic was warmly welcomed by the staff AND the knitters whom were just there hanging out knitting. They helped him look over all the yarns and select one which they let him help rewind into a ball. The atmosphere is warm and beautiful. Everywhere you look is covered by gorgeous colors and hand-hewn wood. Creative yarn projects are displayed all around to get inspiration rolling. They host several yarn circles and classes. Well with the trip!
