Surprisingly good for strip mall Chinese. We ordered the general tso and spicy shrimp. We also had the pot stickers and crab Rangoon. The crab Rangoon were my favorite but I thought it was all tasty! Our dishes came with pork fried rice and it was Delish. Bottom line, for the cheap prices, friendly service and quick turnaround, I give it 4 stars!

I found this particular to-go Chinese food very over-priced. My «usual» order of tofu, broccoli, spring rolls & rice typically comes to$ 17– $ 20 most places I go. Here, it came to $ 27 and the spring rolls were very small, rice was not fully cooked and the broccoli was sparse. I will be traveling a few extra miles to go somewhere else in the future.

Nothing special, your usual Chinese takeout. I got the sesame chicken lunch special with fried rice. Good price and a large serving.

I don’t have high expectations for a shopping center chinese food establshment. I’m not jaded, just realistic. I mean, you pay $ 6.99 for some General Tso’s you have to realize you’re not getting the freshest or best ingredients. It’s fine, I’m o.k. with that. I have an iron stomach and questionable judgement — it’s a gift. However, one thing that I do expect is friendliness. I’m a paying customer. I’m polite. I say please, thank you, yes sir/ma’am. Is it too much to ask for eye contact and some sort of recognition that I’m on the other side of the counter? The last time I went in to get food at China Wok, I didn’t even realize he had heard my order at first. The impatient mono-syllabic grunt was the only indication I got that my request for food had been received and I should slide my card. Now, I realize that there’s probably a language barrier(all you PC types out there, settle down, I was there — you weren’t — you’ll just have to trust me on this). However, communication is primarily non-verbal and those non-verbal cues said tons. So, let’s review: 1. Food? About what you’d expect. Standard shopping center chinese food. I’m a fan or I wouldn t be there. ‘Nuff said. 2. Attitude/Customer Service? Abysmal. A welcome to your business, thank you, come again, will that be all, etc.. . how hard is that? Hell, I’d have been happy with a smile and a nod. The food’s good for the price. The attitude isn’t worth it though. I can get my cheap chinese food somewhere else in the future.

The negative reviews for this place really puzzle me. It’s as if they’re expecting excellent, authentic Chinese food when you’re actually ordering from Americanized Chinese take out. If you want authenticity go to Gourmet Kingdom. I think China Wok is the best take out in town, I’ve tried all of them. It’s comparable to Jade Palace but much cheaper. I typically get a combination, which comes with rice and egg roll. Never disappoints and I get a couple extra egg rolls. Theirs are pretty good and not very oily. If you want quick Chinese for under $ 10, go here.

Y’all this was bad. Like, if you respect yourself, you may not feel well after the feelings this food makes you feel. I mean, yeah the general tso’s chicken and fried rice all tasted fine(I guess??). It’s just the«chicken» was maybe almost non-existent. There may have been a particle of chicken deep fried in so much batter that I could hardly tell. So it tasted like good junk food that was kind of addicting. I ate half of it before I started asking myself why I would do this. Same thing with the pork fried rice. Kind of alright, with these tiny perfectly shaped cubes of pork(???). Why is pork in cube form??? And it was kind of pink? The egg roll and spring roll were fine. We also got the pepper chicken which was a little better. It had strips of green peppers and onions and I know they were real. Nice little strips of chicken covered in black pepper. No real complaints there. Overall, I ended the meal feeling confused. What was I actually eating? Why did I eat so much of it? Should I feel bad? Will I ever return?

I am only giving it two stars because the General Tso’s chicken was edible. The fried rice was NOT fried and was white. White fried rice? WTF is that? And I asked for pork fried rice… yeah, well two or three tiny cubes of pork and maybe six onion pieces in a container of white«fried» rice was not my idea of Chinese food — where were the green peas, where was anything that says FRIED rice? The crab rangoons were okay. But if I could go back in time, I wouldn’t eat here. Not worth the drive.

I ordered the garlic vegetables and added tofu, and you know what, it was good. In most other towns, this would be an unremarkable praise. However, we are in Carrboro/Chapel Hill, which has an unreasonable amount of terrible Thai/Chinese/Asian cuisine. The food was hot, fresh, and not overly oily. The portions were generous, the price was low. I really don’t think there’s much more you can ask for from a place that’ll serve you lunch for under $ 6. This place is infinitely better than Jade Palace, Spicy 9(which is the worst, the literal worst), Akai Hana, or the perennially overrated Gourmet Kingdom. Gourmet Kingdom basically flavors everything with soy sauce and/or toasted sesame oil. It’s also overpriced and the service is less than unremarkable. I’ve tried every Asian restaurant in the area multiple times in the past few years and am usually disappointed. The fact that this place exceeded my expectations is truly remarkable. I’m not sure what the issue was with the bad reviews on this place. Perhaps it was the items they ordered, or the kitchen had a new cook, etc. But I will tell you that this place is worth it – it’s not outstanding cuisine, but it is actually worth your money and you will be satisfied, and maybe you will even be impressed. In the land of the blind, the one eyed man is king. China Wok is that one eyed man.

Decent food-court style Chinese food. On several occasions my food tasted stale yet overly powerful in flavoring almost like it’d been reincarnated from the day before with MSG. I wouldn’t get too brave ordering here or you’ll be doubled up Wok’n to the restroom mid-meal. Their dining area is very basic and rightly so everyone I’ve seen gets takeout.

My husband and I stopped here for take-out on a Friday night after attempting to go to Anna Maria’s, which had closed already. It was either that or Arby’s on our way home. We ordered crab rangoons, a shrimp egg roll, an eggplant curry special, and a shrimp lo mein combo plate that came with fried rice and a pork egg roll. They were very friendly at the counter and the food came out quickly, but everything we got was pretty much tasteless. We spent $ 25 and the only thing we finished were the crab rangoons and egg rolls. Everything else we put in the fridge and eventually had to throw out. I won’t go here again. If it’s 9:45pm on a Friday and I’m at Carrboro Plaza, it’s gonna be an Arby’s night.

Their best dish is the Chicken & Broccoli with Garlic Sauce. The Sesame tofu, the Black Pepper chicken and the fried dumplings are solid. The egg foo young is not their best dish and the general tso’s chicken, while tasty enough, seems to be pre-frozen. I love that you can get brown rice instead of white rice, and they often have seaweed salad, which is delicious. Good food and quick.

I’m giving China Wok five stars for what it is — reasonably priced, delicious, always fresh, take-out [or dine in, if you choose] Chinese food. They have great soups — not too salty or cloying — and the people there are pleasant and prompt. You can even order online [www.chinawokcarrboro.com]. I’m thankful to have China Wok so close to home.

tried b/c close to the house. service was nice, but food with little taste(but 2 stars as not bad enough to throw away). red curry chicken was the best in the lot, but still sub-par compared to most Thai restaurants. will not be returning.

The first review above notes that this is strip mall chinese food — true, but I’d put a positive spin on this. It is what it is and, from my experience, it’s done pretty well. It’s good, basic, fast, inexpensive chinese food. I’m sure we all realize that any restaurant can have an isolated problem and that negative reviews are more common [and passionate] than positive ones. For 5 years now, I have not been disappointed with my guilty pleasure of cheap chinese food from China Wok.

Seriously the worst Chinese food I’ve ever had, and that’s saying a lot considering I ate street food in China for two months straight. I got the Chicken with Cashew Nuts lunch special to go about 1pm. The dining room was pretty empty and the cook staff looked bored in the kitchen. The lady at the front took my order and it took about five minutes to finish. On the drive back home with my food, I could tell from the slightly-burnt smell that I was in for an unpleasant experience. The chicken seemed to be all dark meat and was either extremely overcooked or some sad attempt at flash frying. I ended up picking out the vegetables and eating the white rice, as the chicken was inedible. I don’t plan on going back.

Purely strip mall Chinese food. Actually, usually substandard strip mall Chinese food. But if it’s on your way home(as it is for me) here are my tips. Try the Black Pepper Chicken. Small strips of chicken stir fried with veggies and lots of pepper. It has nice heat, good flavor, and lots of veggies(but is a little greasy). The Chinese Chicken Wings are also pretty good. I like the seasoning they use in their batter. But why is their fried rice yellow?
