You could not ask for a better go-to spot than Hong Kong. I regularly place an order for pick up and receive a top notch dinner. I love the family run touches and special greetings.

Been there twice and eaten in and taken out. Hot and Sour Soup is good. Kids like Sesame Chicken and General Tso’s. They have more chicken and less coating than other folks. They substitute Lo Mein for rice which I appreciate ’cause kids prefer. Hunam and Szechuan are quite similar and both listed as spicy but Szechuan was actually spicy. Not your usual goopy take out sauce. No this isn’t gourmet but did you look at the price? A huge egg roll and substitute Lo Mein(which has some vegetable and quite good) and plenty of food for $ 7.45 as a combination. For take out quality Chinese in the area it’s great. For better food go to Red Lotus.

They’re super friendly. I’m here visiting for an extended period of time from New Jersey, and I love the way they prepare the food here. Really reminds me of home. Unfortunately they don’t have delivery service. Perhaps it’s for the best since I would most likely order from here every day. I must try!

Went here for the first time tonight, and was actually impressed. Was a little scared because of the reviews, but the food was good. I had the General Tso combination and it was delicious. Chicken was cooked perfectly, fried rice not overly greasy. My son had the chicken with Garlic Sauce and his vegetable looked fresh and crisp. He said it was very good. My husband had Chicken Fried Rice and spring rolls. My husband requested no salt or soy sauce when cooking and the accomodate him happily. He enjoyed his food as well. In will definitely be back when in the mood for quick, cheap and good chinese take-out.Keep in mind that good, cheap and quick, generally dont go together! usually you can only get 2 out of 3. If you want a sit down experience, try Gourmet Kingdom, they are also quite good, but offer a more authentic menu and taste @ twice the price of Hong Kong.

Before giving a bad review on Unilocal, especially of a local business, I like to go back a few times to see if it was just an off day for their staff before making my decision. Unfortunately, after going to Hong Kong Chinese Restaurant several times for lunch and dinner I cannot say that I will be going back there again, which is sad because I really like to frequent local places. The service was fair but quick and I liked the fact that I could call and pick up the food. The interior of this feels shabby and a bit greasy. When I sat down to wait for my food I noticed that the table had a greasy film on it. This is not the type of place where one would like to eat there due to the grimy feeling there was in the seating area. After that I called in advance so I would not have to wait inside for too long. As for the food, it was nothing special and I felt underwhelmed. The several dishes that I had were: –Hunan Beef felt too salty and there was too much sauce and not enough beef in it. The little bit of beef on the plate had a weird taste to it and never ordered it again. –Kung Pao Chicken with Peanuts had a weird consistency to it, and again it was saturated with sauce and sodium. –Boneless Spare Ribs had way too much fat on it to eat; a few of the pieces were mostly fat. –Egg Drop Soup was too salty to really enjoy it. –Steamed broccoli with white rice was below average with the broccoli being a little too old and soggy for my taste. Sometimes, hole in the wall kind of places are hidden gems and I had hoped that this place would be that due to the convenience but this place is not for those that like good food. It’s for those who value price. Although it is not to say this place does not meet a certain niche, but I think after trying this place a few times that I am not part of their niche as I like good food.

Wanted to try this place out because it’s near our new place in Carrboro… and we’re always hungry to find a good local Chinese restaurant. Sadly, I don’t think this will be it. I tried the Kung Pao Chicken lunch special. Not particularly great: too many filler vegetables, heavy on the oil, rubbery chicken, and, in general, not particularly spicy or flavorful. Reminded me of a lot of generic chinese food court places at malls. The place was inexpensive and friendly enough, but unfortunately, based on my limited sample, just not great food.

Before coming out to Chapel Hill, I was spoiled because the local Chinese Restaurant really took care of me(cooked off menu, let me try other dishes for free, etc.) and, on top of it all, made great food. So, when I came out here I was hoping that I could find a place that could compare to the one back home but wasn’t holding my breath. Well, no need to hold my breath … Hong Kong is great. They are really friendly, the food is delicious and it is very affordable. True there isn’t much of a dining room(more like a fast food restaurant) but I really only get take out anyway.
