Landmark at Chelsea Commons

Chelsea Commons is the worst place I had ever lived so far. Like the other guy said in the review, we also had issue dealing with them when moving out because they took all of our deposit away saying we did not provide 60 day notice for the move out like some many of the review here. Different officers have different stories to back up for their arguments.
You can definitely tell the difference of their attitude before and after your move in. Before moving in, they will send you emails to inquire if you are interested in moving in. However, when you move in and tried to ask them for help or resolve issues. It took them days to respond or no reply. One of the officer was the worst. When talking to her about the move out notice, she showed her impatience to me.
When I sent out information, and my friend inquired the move out a couple days after I sent out the move out notice email. She told my friend that she never saw me before even though I had her businesses card on my desk and she said she just got my email. Until I showed the screenshot of my sent email, then she admitted that she received my email a couple days before. A total liar with discrimination attitude. Even though I called in and asked for deadline information, she could instantly forgot what I just said and just ignore my word as she never sent me the deadline information. How could such a lady with memory loss issue and with no honesty could find a job and to represent a company in the frontline. If you are not comfortable dealing with customer, please go home and i am sure many more people want this job.
The younger officer was bad as well as she was very irresponsible as she would never pick up call or reply email. She is a liar too because she claimed we violated the 60 day notice policy as the other lady told me was 30 day notice. One of them must be a liar or both of them were trying to make things up since we had a short term lease so they hardly can find someone to cover the loss for discontinued lease. They try to ignore you and won’t help you with your issue if you are out of town. The facilities in the apartment were old. Depend on your location, we had rented a place near the dumpster as cockroaches were our regular guest even though they promised sending people every weeks for the pest control.
I draw my conclusion here: Chelsea commons =unprofessional. If you want to live with pleasure, Chelsea commons is even an option. Chelsea commons if you want to regain my trust, please hire someone who really want to help and serve your customers. This is an area near the university!
In response to the follow up from the leasing office, how can I reach out you guys? I’m in NYC and you guys never pick up the phone call! The best solution is get my money back and fire those dumb officers!

STAY AWAY!!! My 4 mths there were horrific! The apt upon move-​in had so many little problems which varied from sticking doors to a rattling a/​c unit which they resolved by sticking a folded piece of cardboard in the frame but I didn’t sweat it because the apt was still habitable. The first week I was there I woke up to a flood in the kitchen; the dishwasher had broken although I’ve never used it! They ended up replacing it but it was only after I complained about the water seeping out from under the laminate tiles that they brought in the loudest fan to dry the area. My hot water heater broke as week towards the end of my lease and they had to replace it but the new model didn’t allow for a full shower before you’d run out of hot water! Beware of the ice machine in the fridge! Mine was smelling funky & the ice tasted weird as well so they changed the line to it which resolved the problem. Did I mention smell and taste? When it rains a lot the water coming from the pipes has an obnoxious smell which is why we spent so much money on bottled water. It gets better… a brown spot started forming on the ceiling of the dining room so I called in the leak & mold which had quickly turned from green to black. They closed out the ticket & when I called they said it was because they were going to have someone from the outside look at it on the 24^th. They never showed up, the mold got worse & so did my mom who ended up with some sort of respiratory issue and it was only after I threatened to call the health department that they finally showed up. They failed to address the source of the problem & instead sprayed a strong chemical on the ceiling which covered the mold while my mom was there! The fumes were overpowering & one would think they would be courteous to warn her so she would leave the apt even if for a quick walk! After I moved out I returned to retrieve the cable box and saw they had just painted the apt and a light brown spot was beginning to form where they had covered up the mold before. The Wed. before Thanksgiving my mom calls me at work to tell me there is an animal in the closet of the apt & it was trying to claw its way out! Sure enough when I get home there is something in the hot water closet! I called the emergency maintenance number repeatedly until after insisting I finally spoke to the guy on call only to be told they don’t do animals & I’d have to wait until the following Tuesday! The police responded to the call because animal control doesn’t do private property. They were able to get it to go into a hole and they blockaded the door with boxes. It took phone calls to the regional mgr & emails to the VP to ensure this situation was handled. Apparently the squirrels have eaten through the particle board on the underside of the buildings and are living in the crawl space under the apts! This one ate its way all the way up into the hot water heater closet. Can we say UNHEALTHY! Here’s another few reasons to avoid this apt complex: 1) you are forced to pay $ 60/​mth for Time Warner cable basic service & $ 25/​mth for valet trash service & you can’t opt out. This is not included in the rent price! 3) the HVAC units are so old that it is impossible to maintain a good balanced temp in the apt; some rooms are colder/​hotter than others. 4) centipedes and water bugs that come in through the vents & holes throughout the apt to the point it can be called an infestation. Being surrounded by trees is no help. 5) be prepared to be charged twice as much for water and sewer; my bill for two ppl was almost $ 80 a month & I had to request adjustments every month. I was even billed the first month the same amount for one week of service. I consulted Owasa and was told the average family of three consumes 4k gallons a month which is equivalent to approximately $ 40/​mth 6) Mold, mold and more mold just grows all along the interior of all the windows. The windows are always moist and drafty. On a good note, the staff is nice but I feel corporate is the problem since the complex is understaffed for its size. Be warned!

I gave them one star because there is no way of putting zero stars and having this review posted. Do not rent from this place you will regret it! There are bugs everywhere. If the maintenance guys go in to do work into your apartment they don’t wipe their shoes they walk in with her shoes dirty into your apartment they bring in mud and dirt. Management does not care about it’s tenants they are always rude they don’t know what they are talking about. The gym has not been taken care of, the treadmills have nails or screws sticking out of them which makes it very dangerous the treadmills are never working there are no sanitation wipes or hand towels in the gym to clean or sanitize the equipment. The grilling area specifically the propane tanks never have any propane in them so you cannot use the grill in the summertime. They charge you for valet trash which is ridiculous. Think twice about renting here. They get all upset when you move out and then they slap you with a ridiculous water bill. The dryer washer area in the clubhouse is always dirty. The gym restrooms are always dirty they are never clean the windows in the apartment have mold in them the blinds are rusted and old. Please please please I’m begging you do not rent from them you will regret it.

I lived here with one roommate for one year and I would not recommend it. The apartments are a nice size and have great updates, but our issues with management were absolutely not worth it.
We lived on the first floor below a couple who fought constantly in the middle of the night, yelling and screaming and slamming doors at 2 AM on multiple occasions. The family next door to them had a small child who I know was kept up by this. We brought this to the management’s attention and I’m not sure that anything was resolved. This is really something difficult for them to influence, so I don’t hold it against them.
It seems that the real trouble starts when you are trying to move out. We gave our notice to terminate our lease after receiving the notice that our rent would be increasing if we stayed (this was not our reason for leaving, just the timing). When we turned this in, we were notified that we had not given our notice 60 days before the end of our lease and would, therefore, have to stay in our lease another 15 days. When I went to talk to management about the fact that they had not upheld their responsibility to notify us of the increased rent rate in time, they stated that they had sent out notices and we must have just not received them (which, apparently, was our fault). One way that I know this couldn’t be true is that I had emailed with management a couple of months before about what a month-​to-​month rate would be and the price quoted to me at that time did not match the quote on our paper notice. When I went to work this out with mgmt, the only response I could get regarding the issue of having to give 60 days notice without knowing the rate of rent before those 60 days is that «it’s in the lease.» I did not receive the notice they said that they sent in February and had even spoken to them a couple of times since then without anyone mentioning the 60 day notice or new rent rate. After several rude encounters with the staff, I finally went to corporate to smooth things out.
If this wasn’t enough, we ran into another issue upon move out. We went to turn in our keys and pay our final utilities, but had a question about our incredibly high water bill (it was around $ 200 and we had only been in the apartment 10 or so days out of that month). The woman we spoke to in the office seemed surprised by the number as well and promised to speak with her manager about it and have her manager call us. Several weeks without a phone call and multiple visits to the site (with the promise that the manager would call us) later, and we still hadn’t heard anything. Obviously, we didn’t go in to pay this total and only got an answer once they sent collections after us. At this time, they stated they had found issues with our carpet and just used the extra water charge to cover that (without telling us).
I had so many issues and so many condescending conversations with management here that I would never recommend them to anyone. It’s incredible how much being kind and considerate to your tenants can influence someone and make them a loyal renter.

After a VERY rocky start, Landmark at Chelsea Commons has finally hit their stride. The apartments (post-​reno) are generally better looking (although it’s a pain that the strongest cleaner you can use on countertops is soapy water lest the spraypaint finish wipe away), and most importantly, the leasing office is now on top of their game. Packages are delivered on time, maintenance is extremely friendly and able to handle any issues we’ve had, and our lease renewal went through without a hitch. The property is even looking much nicer too with the new pool area, landscaping, and plenty of dog clean-​up areas to prevent the once ever-​present poo in the grass. Still pricy for what you get, compared to other options in the area, and insulation in the walls/​windows is practically non-​existant. We have to keep sheets over the windows in the winter to keep our heating bill below $ 150.

Living here for a summer sublet and love it. I will admit that as I’m in a bit of a casual leasing arrangement with friends so I’ve never had to deal with the leasing office and don’t know what that’s like.
I’m staying in the two story three bedroom apartment and love it. Tons of space to stretch out. The kitchen is a small galley kitchen but haven’t had any problem making anything I’ve wanted to. The appliances are a little older but still operable. My only beef is with the dish washer as it doesn’t get stuck on food off. Fortunately I had a mama that taught me to always immediately rinse my dishes after eating, unfortunately I have roommates who weren’t taught such things. There’s also a dining room, which we honestly don’t use that often as college students. The living room is a large size which is great for parties/​entertaining. Also the living room boasts a balcony and a fireplace. A half bath completes the downstairs.
I also have the master suite in this set up. So I have my own bathroom which is a good size and doesn’t feel claustrophobic with a full bathtub. I’ve never had a problem getting hot water so the size of the water heater has never been a problem yet. I also have a gigantic walk in closet and my own balcony with sliding glass doors. I quite like both of these features but I suppose they’re a little superfluous. My room is also quite large and I love the layout.
The other two bedrooms in the apartment are not as large (one is downright tiny!) and they have much smaller closets and share a second floor bathroom. However the way our rent works out in our apartment is that instead of splitting the rent three ways evenly it is instead split based on square footage, so you get what you pay for. Because while I have the largest room I also pay about $ 70 a month more than the roommate in the smallest bedroom. But I’m still not paying an arm and a leg because rent here is cheap, I only pay $ 353 for my bedroom and the total rent for our unit at this time is $ 936. If you’re college students/​roommates like us I’d highly suggest a similar set up be arranged in your apartment so there’s no hard feelings. Also I’ve never though that we get killed with utility costs either.
It’s a bit far out but the buses are great for getting to campus/​Franklin St. There’s multiple stops of the J bus throughout the community and they come fairly frequently. During the school year the bus runs until pretty late at night and even until 2 am with the late ride J during the weekend! I’d like to point out however that this is NOT a pedestrian friendly area. If you imagine walking out your door and walking to restaurants or the grocery store please look somewhere else.
There’s also a pool, tennis courts, laundry mat, and exercise room. I’ve never had to use the laundry as I have laundry in house. The exercise room is a good size and has decent cardio equipment. The pool is quite small but big enough. It only goes to 6 feet deep and is fairly clean, just occasional bugs and such. There’s also a good amount of lounge chairs and several barbeque pits. My only beef is that it can get quite crowded at time, especially with teenagers who are a bit on the sketchy side honestly.
Overall I highly enjoy living here and sort of regret that it’s only a summer arrangement.

Ah yes… the infamous Highland Hills.
My stay here was relatively brief, only a couple of months, and my attitude has been sullied by the then-​current death of Steve Irwin and way too much forced viewing of Grey’s Anatomy. That aside, it’s a pretty decent apartment complex.
Kitchens and bedrooms run small, living rooms and dining rooms large. There are a lot of bathrooms (bonus), and the balconies are of a goodly size. There’s a gym available to tenants as well that, while small, is convenient and decently well furnished.
The main problem here is the location… It’s at the very end of the road, far away from everything. If you don’t have a car you could be in serious trouble, even with the campus buses that come out here every so often. Definitely not recommended for the foot-​bound student.
