Baylor Medical Center

Checked in at 6 am for my husband’s outpatient procedure. Registration process went smoothly and very friendly staff. Once back in pre-​op area. Nursing staff was great. And everything went well. Great customer service, patient safety, and confidentiality. Just waiting for his Dr. To show!

This is a specific review for labor and delivery, i.e. if you’re considering using Baylor Carrollton as the place to trust delivery of your baby.
First and foremost, if you want to schedule your delivery, like drugs, plan to get an epidural, think c-​sections are normal and common and okay, etc, then this hospital will be fine for you.
If you want to not be rushed, follow your body’s natural schedule, have a more open-​minded staff, and if you’ve read up on giving birth naturally and think you know what you want and what you’re doing… well then this hospital may not be for you. The hospital is physician-​owned, so … it is my humble opinion that the docs drive practices that work best for them and their schedule. Some docs want their job to be a 9 to 5 bank job, which I understand and respect. But labor and delivery tends to occur on its own schedule — at least if you let nature have her way.
I won’t go into the details of our birth story. I’ll simply say it didn’t even remotely go as we’d hoped and we didn’t feel supported in our birth plan. We felt rush at every turn, including after delivery. Baby is supposed to have skin-​to-​skin contact after birth — for a WHILE. This make nursing easier and more natural and is an important bonding time. As is common in many modern US hospitals, they rushed baby away to get washed up almost immediately. The petosin (sp?) made everything suck. Many people stopped by our room post-​delivery. We were SO tired and we felt like we were being constantly interrupted by someone when we needed to be resting.
The only reason I went with 2 stars instead of 1 was we had some really great nurses and lactation consultants after delivery. They were wonderful. But the birth experience was so awful, and that was kind of the big event… so the great people that helped later simply didn’t hold much weight in the big picture.
Our next birth will happen at Baylor in downtown Dallas — «Big Baylor.» We’ve heard MUCH better things, done our research, and they have waaaaay more natural births there. The staff and everyone are supposed to be much more flexible and … educated on how birth SHOULD be. That review should come around July to August…

Great staff; in the week. Weekend staff; not so much. My aunt broke her arm from a pull up bar. So on Friday evening about 4 – 5 pm they had great staff checking in and out. Went today, Saturday around 1 – 3 pm, my aunt told my family and I they didn’t help and they didn’t not what to do. Overall, great hospital.

Horribly treated in the ER! My wife came in suffering from kidney stones. They told her there were only 2 people ahead of her. 2 hours later after waiting with her crying and vomiting because the pain was so excruciating, they told us there were still 2 people ahead. We had made zero progress. She suffered in the waiting room for two hours and no one offered to help at all. To top it off they said we would still be billed for the ER visit even though nobody did anything.

Billing, lost check. So they call me a month later demanding payment. So I tell them to send me a statement. Sure enough. Not paid. So I cancelled the first check. Send them another one. That day, they call me demanding payment. The person on the phone is very rude and unhelpful. From what I’ve read service is a bad and well I can’t say good or bad about it. I did get my stitches but I stopped the bleeding myself. But billing apparently doesn’t have there act together or they intentionally lost my check. Maybe they hacked into us records and stole my id with it since that happened recently, too. In short, Those folks have issues. Might need to see a doctor.

My son had an accident and we took him to the ER. He was seen immediately and screened and needed some stitches. The staff and physicians were kind and respectful and took great care of him. Top notch.

Worst ER ever. Nurses have bad bedside manner and lack common nursing skills. Did not even see a doctor only nurse practitioner. Did nothing for me except waste my time and money.

terrible experience ! Went there yesterday and took them total of 7 hours with few patients in line. Nurse took the BP and temperature and asked me to sit out. Even though hospital was not busy at all. They made me Wait 3 hours so I finally asked the guy at the counter do I wait or what I’m waiting for. His reply you can go home if you want. I Asked so him so I am totally fine. Again his rude reply I don’t know u can leave if u want or wait for the doctor. It’s totally up to u. So I already waited 3 hrs i waited additional hour and finally nurse showed up. Total hrs spend on a slow night 7 with extremely rude front desk staff! Vending machine out of water, old coffee, dirty restroom! Front staff just hated if u ask them any questions. I understand u are working night shift but it is the choose the front desk clerk made not us! So treat people like u like to be treated. We paid 3 thousand dollar for a 7 hour trip with few blood test and we get this shitting service! Not recommended go somewhere else but Baylor Carrollton. Very unprofessional and rude front desk staff!

This is one of the worst hospitals in the dallas– Fort Worth area. The staff in the ER is extremely incompetent. The rooms are filthy. I would rather drive an extra 10 minutes and go to a better hospital instead of being killed by this place. Patients you have been warned.

Review of ER and CDU
TL;DR: It might not be the fanciest ER in North Texas, but it has some of the best staff.
I had an urgent (but non-​emergency) medical need and elected to go to Baylor Carrollton at about 10:00 PM on a weeknight.
The overall wait time from lobby to ER seemed a little long — about an hour — especially considering there only appeared to be five other patients in the lobby waiting and they weren’t appreciably busy. However, the wait time was broken up by an initial collection of vitals and later a brief interview. Lobby was quiet, clean, and tidy, with the single large television showing FoodNetwork (a good, neutral choice.) Frankly, this is what I’d consider the baseline (3-​star) for reception — acceptable, but far from noteworthy.
Instead, I’m writing this review to call out the wonderful staff that I encountered in the ER, CDU, and imaging labs. Nurses were all polite, friendly, professional, and competent. The ER doctor was extremely considerate and always asked before doing anything which helps a patient feel like they are maintaining control. I had the benefit of being there during relatively slow time and as such had many opportunities for pleasant conversations with the staff. Since I was alone that made a meaningful impact.
Scheduled activities (e.g., imaging) happened on time and were setup when I arrived so there was no waiting. Props to JB in MRI lab for having headphones connected to any Pandora station I wanted so I could relax to music during the procedure.
Staff was vigilant about contamination protocols — everyone was constantly washing/​sanitizing their hands, using correct techniques when discarding material, and all areas were notably clean and tidy. Additionally, my identity was confirmed for every action, all the way down to delivering food. I felt confident that I was safe.
A respectable menu was provided for food items to be ordered from, along with a page dedicated to breakfast that’s served all day. I had salmon with roasted vegetables and mashed potatoes. While it was definitely far from the best salmon I’ve ever had, it far exceeded my expectations.
Overall facilities were fine. Nothing crazy fancy, but nothing in disrepair or obvious decline. Technology (both medical and consumer) was modern and seemed to work well. Patient rooms were reasonably insulated from sound. Phone, TV, and WiFi was provided.

I haven’t been to the emergency room in about five years.
Then recently, this ice stuff caused me to slip, fall, bust my eye and cheek.
After basically being told I should drive myself in the ice to the er, I did. I fishtailed in my rwd sports car the whole way.
You can imagine with my eye gushing blood, the size of an egg, and having a huge GASH– that I was in a lot of pain.
Anyway. Got to the ER– wait wasn’t long-​staff was professional but didnt seem happy to be there.
So I was there 3 – 4 hours to get my eye stitched up. They gave me MOTRIN– wtf?
My mother is a BSN and Im familiar with what sorts of medications need to be administered and when. I also have NO PAIN tolerance. Pain causes me to have anxiety too. Although a healthy young adult male, I was very shaken and in a great deal of pain, so I requested something stronger than motrin on various occassions. Dr basically refused, even though the sweet nurses were understanding of my pain.
A GUSHING BLOODY EYE NEEDING FIVE STITCHES DESERVES A HIGH STRENGTH PAIN med.
So they give me prescriptions for Motrin– which I figured Id fill– of course, due to ice. CVS was closed. They suggested I come back to the ER to wait another 4 hours to see the doc. I basically just did not. Not in my rwd car am I going back to wait.
I can’t believe they would not adhere to my request for stronger in-​house pain medication, or even a prescription for a later date– it’s going to to take WEEKS FOR MY FIVE STITCHED EYE TO HEAL. I hate anything medically related. I dont even like taking my damn vitamins! I also think they are racist, but that’s another story for another day.
Just avoid this place if you hurt yourself badly and seek comfort. You will get motrin and a middle finger basically…

I am so irritated with this place.
I’ve already lost my sister and thanks to this hospital, I almost lost my mom, too.
After having to tell 25 nurses and doctors about how she is deathly allergic to penicillin, and wearing a bracelet that’s bright red and says «ALLERGY,» my mom found herself having hives at her knees. She asked the nurse, «did you give me penicillin?» to which the nurse denied doing so. However, when the lung specialist visited my mom, she asked him why she was having hives and explained to him that she was allergic to penicillin and that was the only thing that gave her hives. The lung specialist looked at her IV bag and sure enough — PENICILLIN! The nurse lied.
The lung specialist thankfully made this mistake known to the nurses and the DOCTOR that were taking care of my mom and reprimanded them. Turns out the penicillin went through FOUR different hands — the doctor, administrator, the person that delivers it, and the nurse! (which ALL of them have to check if the patient is allergic to the medication) — before it ended up in my mom’s system.
Another thing is that my mom had explained to me that one of her fears in being in the hospital is having the IV bag blow up on her. Her friend once had that happen and almost died. I reassured my mom that it wouldn’t happen to her and once again, due to the negligence of the staff, the IV bag starts blowing up on my mom! Seriously, is this place asking for a lawsuit against them?

The ER was great, very quick and efficient, very friendly people. I was quickly admitted for treatment of a very bad, and very painful, infection in my left foot and leg.
My experience since the ER has been very different. Pain-​killers are, not surprisingly, on a schedule, but the schedule only seems to have minimums. It has not been uncommon for me to have to wait, in great pain, for an hour or more after requesting a pain-​killer, even though the minimum wait has long passed. I have even thought semi-​seriously about going back to the emergency room for faster service.

Awful, just terrible what Baylor has done to what used to be a decent community hospital when it was Trinity Medical.

Great doctors office… Dr. Zhang takes his time with every patient and answer any questions you might have. I really like having him as my doctor.
