Just ate an amazing hamburger with fresh-​cut fries. Great service, atmosphere and the intoxicating smell of Bar-​B-​Q. Hubster loved his plate of pork ribs, fried okra, and potato salad. These folks take fewer shortcuts in ingredients and prep, resulting in a pleasing outcome. Come to Sam’s Place and get fed.

I would not come back here and regret that I did not trust my instincts to visit the other barbecue joint in town. I ordered the lunchtime barbecue plate, which amounted to four ribs, less than 5 inches long. One was all fat, leaving three that could be consumed. They also could have been leaner and the whole plate was inadequate to really determine if they were any good at making barbecue. The sauces were also disappointing, running out of the bottle as if they had been diluted. I feel bad I could not be more generous with the review because the people were actually quite friendly. But, that’s not enough when you’re hungry.

I ordered the combo plate: chopped pork and ribs with mac-​n-​cheese and potato salad for sides. Overall, I was very pleased with my meal. For $ 11 – 12, I didn’t feel cheated by the portions either. The chopped pork wasn’t too chopped, which I appreciate because I want to still be able to enjoy the texture and flavor of bbq pork. The ribs were as good as any fall-​off-​the-​bone ribs, but I wish they gave me more than just 2 pieces (even just 1 more would’ve been a difference maker). The mac-​n-​cheese was solid, and the potato salad was a real winner imo because of its heavy mustard base.
They also serve a sweet bbq sauce and a spicy bbq sauce at each table. Both are made with a vinegar base; so they are thin (non-​viscous) and have a tangy after-​taste. I never had a watery bbq sauce, and I’m not sure if that’s a Memphis thing or a Sam’s House thing. Either way, I enjoyed them both. The key is to really smother the meats with them to really appreciate the sweet/​spicy taste and not just vinegar.
The place itself is humble in appearance with musical paraphernalia on the wall. It can get pretty smokey in there, but it wasn’t enough to damper the dining experience (but enough to make your clothes SMELL). The wait staff is super friendly and helpful.
I would recommend this place, and I would go again. It’s definitely in the race for ‘my favorite place in Carrollton’.

Food was a five star for sure. The service a three. Still worth going to just because of the food alone. Definitely worth it!!!

I knew when I saw the wood stacked in the window, I would like this place. When I walked in and saw the brick smoker and smelled the smoke, I knew I would love this place.
Highly recommended… and I’m a tough critic with barbecue.

What can I say? This is my favorite restaurant in West Georgia, bar none. The servers and staff are always attentive and very nice. I get the pulled pork plate with cole slaw and mac & cheese. The pork is to die for. The mac & cheese has a wonderful flavor with the perfect amount of crust. The cole slaw looks a bit dry but when you bite into it you realize it’s the best slaw you’ve ever put in your mouth — rich & moist, with a flavor out of this world. The atmosphere of the restaurant is inviting and laid back. I have never had a bad experience with this place and never expect to. It seems like they have put their time and effort into making EVERY part of their meal great, not just two or three main dishes. Put this place on your bucket list ladies and gentlemen.

The best place to eat in all of Carrollton! The prices are good and the service is great, too!

They had some of the best ribs ever, the potato salad and bake beans were delicious. I will certainly be going back soon.

Great BBQ. Awesome atmosphere. The deluxe Sam burger is something else — ¼ pound burger with BBQ pork on it. Nothing here has disappointed.

Hubby and I had the pork plate and it was deliciously smoky! The staff is super nice and attentive and the ambience is so cool that you really just don’t care that the building is old and dingy and probably ready to cave in at any second. Lol. Jazzy Memphis Blues playing in the background, the whole experience reminded me of dining on Beale St. It is located downtown, but there is plenty of parking behind the building. We’ll be back for sure!

Good if you’ve not had bbq in a while but not a great place. Slow service like all the other posters stated. Mac n cheese was really overbooked and greasy. Chicken wings were dried out and the chopped pork had too much bark. The only thing we had that we enjoyed was the ribs. Won’t be back.

We went to Sam’s for a lunch on Saturday. First off, they didn’t really have a lunch menu. My friends had the sandwich special which was pretty good for a lunch. I had a Rib plate, $ 12.99 which is a bit much for lunch. It was only 5 smaller ribs, and 2 sides, which is very pricey. The end rib was pretty tough, but the other 4 were fairly tender.
There was only 1 waitress, she took our order and brought our food and check, but didn’t see her after that. The drinks were very small (I’m used to large glasses of tea where I am from), and all 3 of us needed refills, but we couldn’t even get her attention. We all left VERY thirsty and not so happy.

Came with our family on a Wednesday at lunch time. Generally enjoyed it despite the slow (but friendly) service. Not much pork on the salads for the upcharge. The deluxe burger with pork on it was really good. Fries were boring. Greens were terrific.
The family all said they thought my port on our Big Green Egg at home was better.
I wish I could give three and a half stars.

The BBQ is the best in Carrollton and tho I haven’t tried any out of town it would take another great bbq joint to change my mind about this place being the best one. Even their Mac n Cheese is the best I’ve ever tasted in my entire existence on this earth! I ate it here and I dont even like Mac n Cheese period. The sides are tasty! I highly reccomend trying this place!

my only regret is that i did not try out this place sooner.
just a heads up, this place is a bit rough on the edges — meaning, a TRUE BBQ JOINT. to me, some of the most amazing bbq is nestled inside a no nonsense establishment. And this place? they most definitely have delicious bbq. The restaurant can get smoky so heads up ladies! you may come out smelling fantastic: smoked meats! Im sure the boys will approve.
their prices are also justifiable as well. especially their lunch specials.
I had the pulled pork BBQ sandwich and mac and cheese. That was 6 bucks for a plate of happiness. They do not smother the meat with sauce and the hot sauce/​bbq vinaigrette they have on the table is so original i dont think i have ever had anything like it and me likey!!! The meat was nicely smoked and chopped fresh to order. The mac and cheese is simple but most definitely one of the best and most home-​made tasting mac and cheese i have ever had — nothing fancy, very down to earth, it really made me feel like Im eating in some southern grandmama’s kitchen.
I highly suggest. although the food did took a little while to come out, i didnt mind it at all. I do wonder how fast their service is when theyre actually slammed? either way, this place is going to see more of me.

I’ve had BBQ all over the country and although Georgia isn’t known for its BBQ, this place is amazing! Best BBQ I’ve had since moving here 5 years ago.

Now this is what a southern barbecue place should look like — maybe a ladies ready to wear at one time — wood for the oven in one window and a long table with chairs on the other side. Lots of Memphis pictures and posters. Shall I say ‘barbecue ambience’? I opted for the ribs with collards and cole slaw — all super good. The ribs were tender and meaty and the sauce on the table had just the right kick. Collards and slaw were the best. I also received sweet cornbread prepared like a pancake — another plus. You’ll want to go back … soon!

UNBELIEVABLE! I just had good ribs, GREAT chopped pork, and just a top notch BBQ experience. All the sides are terrific (greens, green beans, Mac & cheese). Also surprised with a delicious corn meal pancake that comes with a meal, and some wonderful, extra spicy mustard-​based BBQ sauce on the table.
