Taste of Downtown Carson City

I came to this event this last weekend for the first time. I do think the cause this event supports is a good one, Advocates to End Domestic Violence :
I’d do all I can to support that. Tickets to do the tastings were $ 40 this year. Now, there’s probably not any way you’re gonna be able to sample $ 40’s worth of food, so just keep in mind the money is going to a good cause.
Parking was not as bad as some made me to think. We just parked a block away on the west side of town under a big shady tree! Walking over 1 or 2 blocks is no biggie, seeing how you’ll be walking all up and down the street.
Some of the restaurants are not located near the event in the middle of town, so they have to truck over all their stuff and equipment and set up. Some operators looked like food trucks. Live music is playing, although not the most competent bands, but it’s small town so it’s what is around. I did notice a big police presence, I guess with all the alcohol and people, that might be a good idea. There was not as much signage for us non locals to figure out what was where. The food lines for the more desirable restaurants were long, sort of reminded me of the Rib Cookoff in Sparks, but smaller. Some of the distances between the most south and most north restaurants was a bit far to be walking in the heat with alcohol. I think there was a shuttle, but never saw it. The food samples were OK, not the most generous portions or even the marque dishes of the restaurants. I waited and it felt like getting free samples at Costco, the amounts and samples were about the same. I do realize that the restaurants are businesses and you gotta keep a line on costs and expenditures, but all this waiting and for what you get, next time if I go, I’ll maybe skip the sampling and just go for drinks and people watching, which there is definitely a lot of that to do!
The event supports a good cause, but the event itself was just OK. I may or may not be back next year.

It’s for a great cause, that’s the best part! About 43 restaurants participated but we only found 30. We understood that six of those restaurants were in the Carson Mall, but I didn’t want to walk six or seven blocks. So we enjoyed what was at hand.
Challenging part, serving someone who can’t eat bread. I was tempted often but I know the gastronomic consequences. About three places served their pulled pork on the exact kind of bread; a white roll. I definitely can’t eat that! I don’t eat dessert, no craving for it but my husband benefit from that! Lol
There were no discounts on drinks, like what I read from previous reviews.
And Yangs Kitchen/​Sushi Delight we got pushed by the manager who was pushing her employee into us so that they could get through. And this manager was yelling at us that we needed to move out of the way! We dumped the samples of their food in the trash. No thanks.
It was a one time experience.

June 2013 We had good times attending this event. Second Saturday in June. I will mark on my next year calendar– I want to be there again. The bands were awesome, the food were great and the fun were just so memorable. We met friends and aquintance we havent had seen in years.
By the way, congratulation to The Basil for The Best Taste and Sassafras for Over All category. You guys deserve it.

The Taste of Downtown it the best Carson City has to offer. The streets are packed with every type of food that a person could want. For the price of $ 35 you got to eat at 40+ restaurants and listen to what seemed like live bands on every corner. I have been to other «tastes» around the country where you buy a ticket that just got you in, and then pay for each sample separately. This is much better. This year the weather was great, the food was unbelievable, the shops were an extra treat, and the bands had us dancing until midnight. I look forward to the Taste every year to discover new places to eat, meet old friends and kick the summer off to a good start But what I liked best, is that it all goes to help end domestic violence and give victims and their children shelter and
Safety. I’m looking forward to next year.

This is a fundraiser for a great cause. Instead of paying $ 25 for a sub par buffet, come to downtown and for $ 35 you get amazing food and help out a great cause. So much good food, stomach was not big enough.
Get there at 5 for the best parking spots and avoid the lines. Around 7 the lines start but waiting 1 –2 min in a line isn’t that bad.
If you don’t want to pay for drinks, bring your own water bottle or 2.

I had so much fun last year at the taste of downtown! They really do a bang up up job ever year! Go with a couple of friends, I guarantee you will go home full, maybe a little buzzed and happy as can be!
