One of our stops for the SW Washington Brew passport. Very busy both outside and inside. Outdoor seating is large and accepts doggies. Servers very friendly and efficient. Oh the pizza smell was heavenly. We tasted their taster tray. I enjoyed a blueberry sour beer. We had chips and salsa and a cheesecake cup. We would make a road trip to visit this over and over again.

Backwoods Brewing was our very first stop on the Breweries in the Gorge tour, and what a way to start things off right. We were able to get a table immediately and promptly ordered a tasting flight. They have a lot of unique and flavorful beers — mostly IPAs, and the beers are bursting with all kinds of hoppy, piney, citrusy, and downright delicious flavors. My boyfriend had quite a few favorites, and I loved every single one. Next came the food; bbq pulled pork pizza for me, and a Reuben for my boyfriend. The pizza was DELICIOUS with its mouthwatering house-made beer bbq sauce, and it was loaded with pulled pork and jalapenos. Seriously, just thinking about it makes me want to go back. The boyfriend enjoyed his Reuben too… along with a piece of my pizza. Interesting to note — Backwoods also sells beer soap and other body care items. All looked to be of quality, but as much as I wanted to bring home one of their soap bars, I just couldn’t bring myself to pay $ 7.50 for it. Definitely glad we made the trip. The beers were refreshing and delicious and the food was flavorful and very satisfying. This is one of those rare breweries that excels in both food and drink. Solid 5 stars in my book and you bet I’ll be going back.

Apologies to Sergio Leone: There’s good, there’s great, and there’s phooey about this place. The good is the beer, and if good seems damning by faint praise, so be it. The great is the service, which is absolutely great. The pizza is so great that a medium can easily last two or three days. Great! The phooey is the set up. I realize they’re shooting for a country like feeling, concrete floors, ruralatudenicitous(look it up!) art for sale on the walls, but what gets a full blow ‘phooey’ is the picnic table seating. Nary a chair with a back in the whole place. Lumbar support I say. Lumbar! One great thing Backwoods has going for them is that after scrounging around at The Antiques Trading Post(see previous review) you’re so dry and dusty that the beer simply has to taste righteous. You’ve just acquired a Gobi Desert thirst. Are they in Cahoots? An all-american word for an all-american beer hall in an all-american town. I was so Carson-Washington upped when I got home I put on Cahoots by The Band … Life Is A Carnival(turn it UP!) What fun Carson is! Go!

Nice place post hike. Follow the signs around back to find the brewery, though I’m not sure they actually brew in this location. Family friendly place with a nice outdoor space. Pepperoni express pizza large enough for two people. Has smokes mozzarella cheese, pepperoni(of course), mushrooms, tomatoes, and Pepperoncini. 12 beverages(beer & cider) on tap.

Awesome post hike lunch. The blueberry sour beer is perfect and refreshing. Every pizza that went by looked amazing. The hummus platter was so fresh. Lots of olives & feta! Good service. Family friendly and a pet friendly patio too. Definitely worth the stop. Will be back next time we’re hiking in the gorge.

Loved this brewery. Pizza was so delicious! And the beer was great. We had the cheesy garlic bread as a starter. Mmm considering we each got a separate pizza, probably shouldn’t have eaten the whole thing, but it was too good to stop! I really wanted to try the lava cake, but we were stuffed. Next time though! Terrific atmosphere and friendly staff.

Surprisingly good. We got the flight of beers for $ 12, which ends up being a 2oz pour of ALL of their beers on tap. There were some real standouts: the stout, the sour, and the pilsner were our favorites. The Blueberry Wheat was nice, but finished more like an IPA than expected. We got a medium half-half pizza: Tropic Thunder and Timber Beast. It was great hot and great as cold leftovers for lunch the next day. The clientele was a great mix of local types and end-of-day hikers. Service was fast and friendly. We would definitely come back.

Stopped here for a pizza to go on my way home to Bonney Lake. I had the Timber pizza with Bleu Cheese. This is one of the best pizzas I have had. The crust was perfect. Not too thick and not paper thin. The cheese was generous and browned perfectly. The sauce was amazingly good. While waiting I tried the Ridge Run Stout Nitro. What an incredible stout. Charged with nitrogen the bubble are very small. The beer has notes of chocolate and espresso. I would consider driving the three hours from my home just to have more of this. The staff are very friendly and capable. Sarah is awesome!

I ordered the BLT and it was delicious. The down side was the toasted ciabatta bread destroyed my mouth like Capt Crunch. 5 hours later and my mouth is still sore. The place is expanding so I’ll give some grace for the limited seating available. Some people waited about 20 minutes for a table but they stood around and drank beer and no one seemed to be complaining. I’ll go back again when I’m not riding a mc and can taste a few beers. Our service was really good.

I came here after a Falls Creek hike with friends and it was a great spot to grab a beer and pizza post-hike. It was a nice day, so we sat out in their patio area, which made it even better. The beer here is good, although they are heavy on the IPA’s and Stouts and don’t offer a lot of lighter beers. The pizza isn’t earth shattering, but definitely solid with a lot of different topping options. Overall, food, drink and ambiance we’re perfect for what we were looking for and the service was friendly and attentive — I’m a fan!

Awesome pizza, specifically the BBQ chicken pizza. The beer is the best, definitely try the Copperline Amber. Great stop on the way home from an epic day in The Gorge. Very informal atmosphere with courteous, friendly staff, and a genuine grassroots feel.

My new Sunday ritual. The pizza is bangin’ especially the«red, white and bleu». Beer is on point, love me some Double Cutt IPA. You really can’t go wrong with the beer, food, atmosphere. I highly recommend for anyone.

Stopped here on a pouring Saturday afternoon after checking out Panther Creek Falls. Can only comment on the beer– the double IPA was very good. Backwoods gets points for being the only establishment of this kind in the middle of nowhere, for ample outdoor seating, and nice new clean bathrooms. If you’re on the Washington side of the Gorge(Dog Mountain, etc.) this is a good alternative to driving to Hood River to grab a brew.

I didn’t try the brew but the pizza was absolutely delicious. I had the lumberjack and the bbq chicken. It had just the right amount of cheese and ingredients to make in my eyes the perfect pizza. It had a nice top crust as it appears they broil it at the end. Overall this was some of the best pizza I’ve had. The price was a little high as i believe it was around 24 dollars for the large but the taste made up for every penny. The inside was also pretty cool with benches and a cozy interior. If I’m in that area again i will definitely be back!

Great service, and great outdoor seating area with nicely polished wood furniture. The pizzas were tasty, but they’re a little heavy on the cheese. Blueberry wheat beer is very light with a faint fruitiness. I’d come back to hang out on a sunny day.
