I came to eat here with fellow Unilocaler friends and we had a good time. We tasted the Lechon Kawali, Fried Lumpia, Calamari, Bulalo, Crispy Binagoogngan, Pancit, Pork Adobo, Sisig Na Bangus, Ginataang Hipon and Kare. For desserts, we got the Buku Pandan, Peach Coffee Mango Cake, Turon, and Banana Yema. :Food: The Lechon Kawali is pork with tofu. The pork was crispy, tofu had a soft texture in the inside and crisp on the outside. Fried Lumpia was stuffed with shrimp and vegetables. The Calamari was chewy and lightly battered. We also got the Bulalo the broth had so much flavor. I’ve tasted Crispy Binagoogngan but they serve it special here because they use shrimp paste and coconut milk; the sauce color turns to pink. It’s also topped with green onion, tomato, and onion. We also got the Sisig Na Bangus, the fish was boneless and mixed with onion, bell pepper, jalapeño, ginger, and lemon; it was a little spicy. The Ginataang Hipon and Kare Kare was also good, I could tell it was homemade. Then we got the Pancit and Pork Adobo We can’t end the night with no desserts, we tried the Buku Pandan, it was served with ice cream and topped with corn flakes to add some crunch. Coffee Mango Peach Cake, the taste was a mixture of all three flavors. It was a surprising good combination and not very sweet. The Turon was warm and crispy, I love the taste of warm Turon. Lastly, the Banana Yema, similar to Banana Pie but absolutely better! ( ) ( ) :Highlight: From all the dishes that I ate my favorites would be the Crispy Binagoogngan, Sisig Na Bangus, Ginataang Hipon, and Kare Kare. In regards to the Banana Yema, I’m hooked, I can’t stop thinking about it. It was so delicious. Most Filipino Restaurants I’ve been to, I usually see and taste the oil in the food but not here; I can tell the dishes were carefully prepared. Other then feeling happy and full, I am still thinking about the food especially the Banana Yema! ( ) :Tips: ~If you want to try the Banana Yema, I think you have to call ahead of time to order one. ~Small parking lot so you may have to park on the streets.

I went here recently to attend a PYE/UYE. I’m glad I was able to try an array of yummy dishes in 1 day! I had the following dishes: *Appetizers: –Pork Tofu — This is made of fried pork belly and fried tofu. The vinegar & soy sauce mix compliments it! –Shrimp Roll –Calamari *Soup: –Bulalo(Beef Bone Soup) — Stew made from beef shanks and marrow bones. It’s also boiled with corn on the cob, peppercorns, potatoes and bokchoy as well. I love this dish! *Main Dishes: –Crispy Binagoongan –Kare Kare — This is a traditional stew with a thick savory peanut sauce, ox tail, tripe & pork leg. –Sisig na Bangus — This is a healthy alternative to the fatty pork version. :) –Coconut Cream Shrimp –Pork Adobo — A common and well-known Filipino dish. Stewed pork with a mixture of garlic, vinegar, and soy sauce. –Bihon Noodles — This is rice noodles with shrimp, pork & veggies. *Desserts: –Peach Mango Coffee Cake –Banana Yema Pie — Very rich & filling! Yema is a very soft and gooey custard candy. –Turon Ala Mode –Buko Pandan — This was a nice fusion dessert! It’s made of young coconut strips and pandan flavored gelatin mixed with cream and condensed milk. But served with cornflakes and ice cream as well! :) Great chef & staff too. I would like to try their Crispy Pata & also their breakfast menu soon. Will definitely come back here for more!

My dinner, I knew it would be Filipino food which I love. I quickly realized the food was better than a fast food hot table, way better! The food kept coming and overwhelmed my senses. I found it hard to remember to take food photos, talk, and eat!
I really liked the Bulalo(bone soup) because I got the marrow :{) the meat was so tender and the broth was very flavorful.
Another dish that stood out was the Pancit Bihon. Again differing from the usual restaurant style. They used more of a bean or rice noodle versus egg style. It was moist, held the flavor, and topped with a meat Veggie mix. Thouroughly enjoyed the calamari the Chicharron, coconut sauce shrimp, pork Adobo(yum), Pinakbet(chock full of goodies), Ginisang Mungo, Kare Kare. Desserts were as pictured and of course tasted better than they looked!

I would drive to far away places to just get my grub on! La Fang Asian Fusion Kitchen is located in Carson, California. It is a hidden gem and to me is a beautiful gem that was found! They serve Filipino food and it is amazing! Also, you can park right in front or around the area(very limited). As Brenda D. and I entered the restaurant there were two long tables that was set and ready for us Unilocalers to chow down! :D They also took out another small table for us because our party was so huge(30 plus people! So much fun!). Brenda D. and I sat at one end of the table next to Stephanie P., Valerie C., Caroline V., Vanessa G., and Antho L. We were cracking up jokes and laughing the whole time. The food kept coming out(so fast!) and we all literally got into a food coma! Of course we took lots of pictures of the food so we can share it to the other peeps on Unilocal!Near the end, we all whipped out our phones to add each other on Unilocal which made the application lag(HAHA! too good!) :D Overall, this is a night to always remember forever. We were served about 12 dishes(ordered it came out below): 1. Pork and Tofu — the pork and tofu were very crunchy and delicious 2. Shrimp Egg Roll — yummy shrimp eggs rolls dipped into sweet and sour sauce! 3. Calamari — the calamari was made perfectly! so crunchy! 4. Panchit Bahon — I love noodles! This dish was so freaking delicious! 7. Pork Adobo — oh my gawd! can never go wrong with adoboooo 8. Pinkabet — this is a soup with bitter melon(which I avoided) if you got guts to eat that! Mad respect for ya! but I tried all of the other stuff around it and it was okay 9. Sisg na bangus — My favorite dish! I love fish! I especially love all of the ingredients that was mixed into this dish 10. Ginisang Mungo — it is a mung bean soup with spinach and pork pieces 11. Coconut Cream Shrimp — this dish was very creamy and you must eat it with rice: D 12. Kare Kare — mmm oxtailllll with peanut sauce! WIN!!! Three desserts: Banana Yema Pie — I am not the biggest fan of pie, but it was yummy Peach Mango Coffee Cake — I seriously got a kick with the coffee and mango! SOGOOD! Buko Pandan with vanilla ice cream and cornflakes — I LOVETHISDESSERT! this dessert is similar to some other Asian desserts(: I really enjoyed eating the jello, pandan, and corn flakes! Such a great combo! :D The pandan is also good for your skin too! What a plus! This is a great place for all foodie lovers! So go check this place out and get your grub on!!! NOMFORLIFE! WOOTWOOT! :D

Came here for a UYE organized by Joseph A(and Nick H). It was my first time here, and it had been a long time since I last had decent Filipino food. There were between 30 and 40 people at this event and even more food to boot. We started off with crispy pork and tofu. I enjoyed this immensely. The pork was nice and crispy throughout with no grisly parts. The next dishes were shrimp lumpia — very nicely done, crispy on the outside and the shrimp remained moist on the inside. Another crispy pork dish arrives with a bagoong(dried shrimp) coconut sauce. I didn’t care for the sauce so much. There was also a salsa of some sort comprising tomatoes and mango maybe. Fried calamari was next — this was nothing special, just the same as all other fried calamari I’ve had before. Next to arrive was Bulalo, a soupy stew of some sort with a beef bone, cabbage and corn. The broth portion had a hint of sweetness from the corn, but it was light and flavorful. I wish there was more broth which came with it. Pancit Bihon is a rice vermecelli topped with cabbage, carrots, bits of pork and celery. Flavorful and not greasy at all. Pork Adobo was nicely seasoned but I only had a small piece as I was pretty full already by now. Sisig Na Bangus was one of my favorite dishes of the night. Crispy bangus(milkfish) is mixed with peppers and with a spritz of lemon, was one of the best dishes of the meal. Pinakbet, a vegetable stew with okra, bittermelon, pumpkin, shrimp, pork, long beans and eggplant is one of my all time favorite Filipino dishes. The one here is stellar and I couldn’t stop eating it. The Monggo Guisado, a green mung bean stew is one I’ve had decades ago. It was a staple when I was living with a Filipino who cooked it a lot. The one here is decent, perhaps a little too thick to what I was accustomed to. The last dish of the night was kare kare, oxtail and tripe smothered in a peanut sauce. It was also my least favorite of the night. It was too sweet for me and really heavy after everything else we’ve eaten thus far. I wanted more vegetables in it, but like all Filipino cuisine, leans towards being meat heavy. This is one of the best Filipino meals I’ve had in a restaurant. I’m usually not a fan of Filipino food in restaurants as it tends to be really greasy compared to what people make at home. Here, the dishes are not greasy and I didn’t detect any MSG — both huge pluses when eating Filipino out.

I couldn’t make it to Antho L’s UYE and kept thinking about this place after reading the list of dishes Antho ordered. I went the next day because I really really really wanted to try this place. Ordered adobong chicarong bulaklak, sisig na bangus and crispy binagoongan. Adobong chicarong bulaklak($ 8.00): I thought I read everyone liked this dish. I read wrong. I liked the seasonings but I couldn’t really eat it because it’s chewy and weird.sorry. Sisig na bangus($ 12.00): a healthier alternative to your regular fatty pork sisig. Crispy milk fish with onions, bell pepper, jalapeño, ginger, squeeze of lemon and seasoning plus fresh mango on top. I was expecting a tastier dish but it’s pretty good. I would order this again. Crispy binagoongan($ 10.00): my favorite dishes from all of them. I like its tasty coconut milk sauce a lot. Too bad the pork pieces are super fatty. No, I don’t eat the fat: P Great friendly service but they really need help in cleaning the place. My table was super sticky so I cleaned it myself with my own wet wipes. 4 stars! One of the best Filipino restaurants in LA so far. I still have to come back and try the other dishes. La Fang is yummylicious!

I could understand how there could easily be mixed reviews for a place like this. My first impression here was just okay. Small number of parking spots, a hole-in-the-wall restaurant that served most of their dishes at $ 10 and up and having to wait more than 15 minutes for one dish, to-go. Even the ingredients in some of the dishes sounded too intimidating to try for the price mentioned. Thanks to Antho L. for setting up a recent PYE here, with several invited guests, we were able to try a number of dishes family-style. I HIGHLYRECOMMEND doing this! It was an AMAZING experience to my palate! I would not have tried most of the dishes on my own and would’ve missed out on what makes this place truly worth visiting. I’d like to add that we all paid our share of the total cost of what was ordered. My rating here is on the food. Granted, the total overall experience may vary and that’s why I made some recommendations below. Let me tell you why this place is considered Asian Fusion. They serve up authentic Filipino dishes on the lighter side(normally super greasy and fatty), catering towards the healthy conscious and an easy introduction to the Filipino cuisine. Many Filipino dishes include shrimp paste(bagoong) that normally has a distinctively strong taste as I believe it is fermented and on the salty side. Here at La Fang, they make theirs on the sweeter side and it doesn’t have a strong taste I was expecting. I surprisingly enjoyed it! For first timers, I would HIGHLY recommend the following for a more pleasant experience: –Come during dinner(prices are the same lunch/dinner); parking seemed so much easier around 5pm, with several open spots. –Make a reservation and order your dishes ahead of time before you get there so you don’t have to wait too long. Remember, they serve fresh quality Filipino cuisine here, not your normal greasy Filipino dishes sitting under a heat lamp. –The best experience is to come in a group, so you can share and try several dishes. The following are dishes we’ve tried and what my take on them were: Adobong Chicharron Bulaklak = crunchy deep fried battered pig intestine(3⁄5) (you dip it in a vinegary sauce. It was both crunchy and chewy, not bad as it sounds) Lumpia Shanghai = fried egg rolls with chicken mixture and sweet chili dipping sauce on the side(4⁄5) (light and crunchy, cooked just right so the inside isn’t mushy) Yum! Calamari = lightly battered and seasoned squid slices(4⁄5) (light and semi crunchy/chewy, with same dipping sauce as fried intestine) Yum! Sisig na Bangus = deep fried milkfish chopped up with fresh tomato, white/green onions, ginger, jalepenos, red/green peppers, tossed in calamansi(citrus juice), vinegar, and pepper.(5⁄5) Delicious! Sisig Pork Belly = same as above except with tender pork with crispy skin instead of milkfish(5⁄5) Delicious!(this dish is fattier than the above but both dishes were AMAZING!!) Kare Kare = oxtail stew in a peanut butter sauce which included long beans, eggplants, and bok choy.(3⁄5) A favorite among many!(slightly sweet and complements well with the shrimp paste) Beef Sinigang = tamarind soup(tangy) with long beans, bok choy, and beef shank(3⁄5)(The soup, overall was good, I’m not a fan of tamarind so it’s preference here) Crispy Binagoongan = crispy pork belly with crispy skin, chopped tomato, onions, mango, and coconut milk shrimp paste sauce.(5⁄5) Absolutely Fabulous! It is their signature dish!(For someone who’s not a fan of shrimp paste, this dish seriously AMAZED me! There were fatty pieces of pork belly but with the fresh veggies and mango pieces blended so well with the overall flavor of this dish) Pancit Miki Bihon = Mixed with both thin rice noodles and egg noodles, with pork, shrimp, cabbage, and carrots(3.5÷5) Yum!(This dish probably could’ve used more citrus or fish sauce and a little more egg noodles but overall it was good) Pinakbet = okra, long beans, bitter melon, and bits of pork and shrimp(3⁄5) (The bitter melon in this dish was over-powering. If you don’t like bitter melon, you might not like this dish as it was my least favorite for that very reason; so it’s preference here) Buko = young coconut drink served in it’s original coconut shell.(5⁄5) Yummy! Melon beverage = cantaloupe juice with bits of shredded cantaloupes. Ones who had them liked them. Banana Yema Pie = banana slices with thick nutty and creamy filling, topped with whipped cream(5⁄5) Yum!(very sweet dessert that would complement well with a cup of coffee) I had a lovely experience my second time around. Meeting fellow Unilocalers: Antho L., Joseph A., Lei B., Stephanie P., Irene Y. with Adam, Careline V., Micah Z., and came with Jody S. The La Fang team were on top of it from beginning to end. I’d like to say«Maraming Salamat Po!» to the La Fang team and Antho L., for making this wonderful night happen! I will definitely go back for some of my top favorite dishes!

Hands down one of THE best Filipino restaurants in southern California! I used to think that LA Rose was the best and don’t get me wrong, it’s still good, but after eating at La Fang, it’s hard to find places that hold a candle to this small eatery in Carson, CA. I’ve eaten here twice and both times, I’ve really enjoyed the meal that we had. The owner, John, who is also the main cook, really takes pride and care in the preparation of the various traditional Filipino dishes. He adds his own creative twist to traditional dishes making a lot of the dishes simply delightful. Some of the dishes I’ve had the pleasure of experiencing are: *Chicken Roll — oftentimes known as Lumpia Shanghai, these little eggrolls are very tasty especially when dipped in the accompanying sweet and sour sauce.(4⁄5) *Calamari — Generous portions of squid, breaded and deep fried this is very nice as a starter.(4.5÷5) *Fresh Buko Juice — If you want to try a beverage that is different and refreshing, order this glass of sweetened fresh coconut water with lychee and coconut shavings. I find it just a tad overly sweet but I usually add a little more water and this is a tasty drink to go with a meal.(4⁄5) *Sisig ng Bangus — Sisig is usually made with pork belly but this rendition is made with white fish and is simply delicious! It’s a dish that has a slight vinegary flavor and is very enjoyable.(5⁄5) *Sisig Pork Belly — This is the traditional version but even then, the way it is made here with a mixture of bell peppers, onions and scallions make this dish a must order for any meal.(5⁄5) *Chicken Tinola — This chicken soup with a slight hint of ginger flavor has such a great broth and is awesome to eat with white rice. You will fall in love with this dish, scrumptious!(5⁄5) *Pork Hamonado — This is pork belly cooked in a pineapple sauce topped with slices of grilled pineapples, scallions and utilizing beer as an ingredient. It’s an interesting dish and something to try too.(4.5÷5) *Beef Pastel — Although I love beef Mechado made with cubed beef chunks and potatoes in a tomato sauce, I found this dish not quite as enjoyable as the others. In this version, mashed potatoes cover the stew likening it to a Shepherd’s Pie. It’s a good dish but probably my least favorite.(3.5÷5) *Crispy Binagoongan — This dish is made with pork and a customary shrimp paste called bagoong used as a condiment. Bagoong is mixed into a cream sauce and the combination of the mango bits, onions, tomatoes and scallions flavor this dish making it exquisite to eat. I would definitely order this again.(5⁄5)
*Banana Yema Pie — Less is more with this sweet dessert dish. It’s a banana pie made with fresh banana slices, covered with a very, very sweet thick sauce that is slightly similar to dulce de leche and topped with whipped cream. It’s a nice dessert to have after a meal but I can only have few bites due to the overwhelmingly sweet flavor. Probably perfect with a cup of coffee.(4.5÷5) *Pork Sinigang — Sinigang is a soup that is made using tamarind which gives this broth a slightly tangy taste and is simply delicious with rice! It’s one of the my favorite Filipino dishes and a must order when eating here since they do this dish very nicely.(5⁄5) *Adobong Chicharron Bulaklak — This is an appetizer for the not-so-faint of heart! It’s deep fried pig intestines. If you are not put off by the appearance and can get over the actual ingredient, this is a rather pleasurable dish to have as an appetizer. Dip it in the home made vinegar sauce and it’s really quite delicious!(5⁄5) *Kare Kare — One of my all time favorite Filipino dishes, this is made with oxtail, vegetables such as eggplant and bok choy(Chinese cabbage) while cooked in a thick peanut-flavored sauce. Eat this with white rice and some bagoong(shrimp paste condiment), and you get a lip-smacking good experience! This is a definite order for me when coming here.(5⁄5) *Bihon Noodles — Also known as pancit, this is a noodle dish made with the skinny, clear noodles called bihon. It’s a nice side to have with the meal although I felt it was a little on the dry side.(3⁄5) Filipino cuisine is starting to catch on I’ve read and although there are many versions of the various traditional dishes at eateries throughout the land due to the prevailing cook’s preference and style, I think La Fang is a really good representation of Filipino cuisine. I can picture their dishes being served in a nicer, more upscale environment with white table cloths, fine silverware and flatware, but for now, it’s in a modest store in a non-descript strip mall in Carson. If you haven’t tried Filipino food before or if you are a lover of this cuisine, La Fang is a great place to experience the delicacies of the Philippine Islands. I am most definitely a fan and will be returning again in the near future.

I’ve been itching to come here for weeks since I saw Nick H’s review.(Great review Nick!!) Then re-enforced by Gizelle M & Jennifer N’s reviews as well. I had to see what the hubbab was all about. This is a Filipino(sit down) restaurant not a «Turo-turo»(literally Point Point) becuase you get to «point» at the item you want, cafeteria style. Not here. They cook your food to order. My wife was craving Kare Kare(Oxtail Stew) and I told her about the Bangus Sisig, I got those order to go for dinner. But since it was my lunch, I decided to try the food and dine in. It’s located in a small plaza. Easy to find. The interior is small, but there are tables and chairs for dine in option. Nice and clean inside. The cashier taking the order was friendly and very helpful with questions. Here’s the rundown: Dine in dish: Bangsilog«Fried Milkfish, Garlic Fried Rice & Eggs» — It’s not what I’m used to. Usually the fish is garlicky & vinegary. This was(to me) just fried. It was good, don’t get me wrong. I was just not expecting it to taste that way. The garlic fried rice, was not garlcky at all and only one scoop(?!?). The egg, they butchered. That is unexcusable. Over cooked sunnyside up eggs and serving it? That’s a no no to me. I’m eating this dish at the restaurant(not take out like the rest of the dish on this review) no reason for that egg to be so over cooked. I think that set a bad tone with my meal. Take out dishes: Bangus Sisig — delicious. It taste like a regular pork sisig but better. I’m assuming healthier too. Lol. Vinegary with a kick. A must order. Yummy. Kare Kare«Oxtail stewed in peanut sauce w/shrimp paste(on the side)» I’ll just quote my wife«2nd best Kare kare she has ever eaten» my Mom’s being 1st. Lol. All the meats(oxtail & tripe) were tender. Vegetables were perfectly cooked. The Sauce to me was thicker than I’m used too, but it was very good & super tasty. The shrimp paste was not your bottled version. It looks like they cook it themselves, extra points for that. Pancit Canton — this was a very flavorful noodle dish. Another winner. Chock full of shrimp, pork & vegetables, very tasty, very good. To be honest, after eating the Bangsilog at the restaurant(the egg specifically), I had very little expectations for the rest of the food I got. I was wrong. Those dishes were super flavorful and yummy. Price is a bit higher, but like I always say. You get what you pay for. Food was very very good. Solid 4 stars. I’ll definitely be back.

I was never a big fan of Filipino food because the few that I’ve tried are usually extremely greasy and salty. After getting invited to try La Fang from my fellow local Unilocalers, I am definitely a FAN of Filipino food now! Their menu invite us to try a traditional Filipino food with healthier ingredients along with a kick to the taste buds! It was a great experience and further introduction to Filipino food. The below items are my favorites and is highly recommended to order For Appetizers I’ve tried the Calamari, Chicken Lumpia, and Adobong Chicharon Bulaklak(Fried Intestines) Everything was delicious, especially the Adobong Chicharon because it tastes just like fried pig skin, you can’t taste anything intestine here. Pork sigsig– pork dish that has a good balance of salty, tangy, and a bit spicy to the dish. Fish sigsig– Same ingredients and taste as the pork, but with fish, substitute. Pansit Bihon– Stir fried rice noodles mix with vegetables and meat. Very similar to the Chinese stir fried rice noodles. Crispy Banagoongan is my absolute favorite dish here. It is made with crispy Pork in Shrimp Paste. and has a vinaigrette, tangy taste to it that makes the dish dish very tasty, distinctive and exquisite. Pork Sinagang soup is very good as well. It is mouth watering tender braised pork ribs using Tamarind ingredient for it’s souring tastes. Pour it over some steam rice and it is delicious! Don’t forget to ask for their homemade special black vinegar. This sauce makes a big difference and it compliments everything you dip into. It’s like the ketchup on French fries and sweet and sour sauce on egg roll. :-)

The diversity of Filipino restaurants has emerged through the last few years, but up until recently, you either had to make an arduous journey or just not make a visit at all, unless you really enjoy food under heat lamps or on a Styrofoam container. Well… look no further, as Filipino cuisine has finally arrived! La Fang Asian Fusion Kitchen deserves the praise this time for elevating this humble cuisine and satisfying my Filipino culinary experience that pleased my palate since lola’s(grandma’s) cooking! Best of all, nothing better than good company over a good meal with the South Bay Unilocal crew(Jennifer N, Tony L, Wan L, Craig Y, Jenn G, and Antho L). Special thanks and love to Jamie A for putting together a fantastic meetup for an introduction to this local fare! Holla! Dish — Rating(refer to pics): Calamari — 4 Deep fried in a lighter oil that did not impart overbearing flavor. Chicken Roll(Lumpia chicken inside) — 4 Brown and crunchy yet not greasy to overwhelm its seasoned chicken stuffing. Sisig(Pork) — 3 Good, but meat could sure use a little more time with marinate overnight to bring the aromatic soy brine before braising and roasting. Sisig(Bangus) — 4 A more healthier alternative to the high cholesterol version of Sisig Pork but with milk fish. One my favorites. Chicken Tinola — 4 This one-pot wonder combines chicken, chayote squash, and spinach in a savory chicken broth. This stuff can heal you! Pork Hamonado — 3 soft and tender but lacked the pineapple juice flavoring. Crispy Banagoongan — 5 It cant get better than this! Perfectly braised pork with a crisp and get this, the shrimp paste(bagoong) is not overwhelming or salty. This is usually the flaw in this dish, but these guys perfected it. Beef Pastel — 4 An elevated and creative version where its topped with seasoned mashed potatoes rather than the boring chunks of potato in the stew. Banana Yema Dessert — 4 Sarap! Custard made from egg yolks and condensed milk is flavorful but not overwhelming rich. Service: VERY knowledgeable. Fantastic Service during our visit. Stamped it personal. Ambiance: No heat lamps or steamed plates. Small tables of about 15 – 20 that can be connected for small groups. Needs more modern love. Parking: Small parking lot comprised of about a dozen parking spaces that share among other small businesses in the same shopping center. Tips: Squeeze lime/calamansi juice on Sisig!

THANKYOUNICK H! Because of your numerous check ins, awesome review, and awesome pictures, I absolutely HAD to bring my Filipino half here. Service 5 stars Everyone here is so welcoming and warm. They were absolutely amazed that we drove all the way from FV to Carson. The food and service was definitely worth it! Food 5 stars Chicken adobo was something definitely something to write home to Lola about. It is definitely cooked with love, time, and care. Longanisa, SOYUMMY! Forget Chinese sausage. I now love these amazing greasy links of meat more than any other sausages out there. I’m SOLD! We will definitely be coming by again… to try the entire menu. Yup.

Thanks to Jamie A for putting together a little get together for us local Unilocalers. We had a lot of dishes which i can’t remember the names of all of them but they were all good and dessert hit the spot. I would def come back here again. This is a nice small place so parking is very limited cause it shares with other stores in the same little plaza. I really don’t know too much about filipino foods but all the dishes here are made with all fresh ingredients and the owner/chef is really cool too.

My one-liner: My new favorite Filipino restaurant I am almost never around the South Bay area, but I was over this weekend, and I knew I had to try La Fang, mostly due to Nick H.‘s great review, delicious looking pictures, and numerous check-ins. My parents, who live in the area, don’t even know about this place. It’s tucked in this little plaza, and the signage appears small. The place is also tiny, I wonder if it gets really busy. One big plus is that it is NOT a regular Filipino«turo-turo»(point-point) restaurant — where food is pre-made and presented under heat lamps and all you have to do is POINT at the dish you’d like, cafeteria-style. This is a sit-down restaurant, similar to Magic Wok, except with less variety of dishes. Décor is minimalistic and modern, making the restaurant look very clean, and the food pictures on the wall actually make your mouth drool before you even order. FOOD: Sisig — 4⁄5 I am a big fan of sizzling sisig, and I order it in every Filipino restaurant, trying to find a substitute for the most amazing sizzling sisig which I have had before, in the Philippines. Note that their sisig is NOT sizzling, but it comes crunchy enough, very flavorful. There is an abundance of onions, however, so it might not be a good idea to order this for a work lunch. It is also spicier than I would like it, but I think a lot of people might enjoy it. Pork Sinigang — 3⁄5 Mainly because I prefer my sinigang REALLY sour. Though not sour enough for me, I did enjoy it. The soup has a lot of pork meat, but there are also a lot of fatty chunks, which my dad says gives more flavor to the soup. I would prefer it without a lot of fatty chunks, I think they should just fry those for lechon kawali. =) Next up on my list would be to try crispy pata and lechon kawali. I love fried pork, can you tell? I just don’t think my waist, or my heart, can take it twice a week. SERVICE: 5⁄5 Lester was our server, apparently also part-owner. He was very nice, very accommodating. Pricier than most Filipino restaurants around the area, but it is a good change. I hope to be back. My parents have already decided to include La Fang in their regular rotation.

*****Kilig To The Bulalo! 5 Stars.***** You wont find buffet tables or heat lamps here! Everything is made to order. The food is great and the customer service is fantastic. It is not the same as homemade but may be the closest to it that you can get eating out. Don’t be confused, this is a Filipino restaurant… run by Kuya John John. So many different items on the menu, I stayed away from the common eats, other than the tilapia, to try out some hard to find dishes. A few include: ~Monggo Guisado-5 Stars! A bowl of flavor! Fresh veggies, beans and fresh spinach and tomato, shrimps and some fried pork! mmmm one of my favorites so far. ~Sisig na Bangus-5 stars The«healthy sisig» made with fresh ingredients and milk fish. The slight ginger surprise was great. I was lucky enough to try this before it is added to the menu. Thanks Kuya John! ~Pork hamonado-5 Stars The pork was prepared to perfection. Very moist and tender! The sauce stole the show. John makes the sauce himself and includes beer pineapple and star anise. I love anise and I love this dish. Most definitely, come with a group of people and eat family style so you can try many different dishes including this one. ~Bulalo(Filipino Beef Marrow Soup)-5 Stars A very light and flavorful broth with veggies and marrow. The beef was«fall-off-the-bone» tender. The best part is saving the marrow for last and scooping it out of the bone. ~Beef pastel– 4.5 Stars This Beef Pastel is a Filipino style shepherd’s pie. It consists primarily of beef and mashed potato and other goodies hidden under the potato bed. ~Tilapia-4 Stars Super good and healthy. It comes steamed and stuffed with plenty of fresh veggies. I would order this again. This is probably the healthiest thing on the menu. I do not like Tilapia, but they did a great job here. ~Halo Halo-3.5 Stars Fresh ingredients including ube have me liking this. It comes with a whopping scoop of caramel topped ice cream. My only issue is related to my picky taste on ice. I like soft shave ice. The ice is the typical hard and crunchy type. If they served a shave soft ice… this would be the ultimate. They also serve freshly prepared Crispy Binagoongnan(fried pork and they use coconut). This is my next dish to try. Expensive? A little… but freshly prepared food takes time and money. This place is definitely a must try. KKB(«kanya kanyang bayad») is a good option if coming with friends. I will be back and, hopefully, posting an upgrade sometime soon. They deliver and take cards!

It goes to show that I am not in touch with the Filipino culture as much as I thought I was. La Fang spelled as one word means to «devour good’ or «to eat hastily». All this time, I just drove by shaking my head and giggling, thinking the owners must be into the Vampire craze?! Yes, I am guilty, I too was into Twilight and True Blood but that is all in the past. Parking: La Fang is located within a small, shopping plaza that has very limited parking. Luckily, there is residential parking if a walk is not a problem. Lack of parking spaces can be a deal breaker for most. Food: The menu is simple and categorized neatly which makes it very easy to grasp the essence of the menu. I ordered the bangsilog and it was delicious! The serving was pretty big but it might have been due to the fact that the plate that it was one was small. Parts of the fish was actually hanging off. I enjoyed the meal and I would definitely try this place again! There dessert section looks really yummy!

My new go-to filipino restaurant! There aren’t much, or even any, comfortable sit down dine-in filipino restaurants in long beach nor in carson worth going to before La Fang. I’m glad this place opened up! My kids loved it here, John was very accommodating and friendly, my kids were spoiled when we came for the first time today. Service is very good, orders were on point. Food-wise, we ordered pork sinigang, kare-kare and chicken rolls. Everything was freshly made, smoking hot and delicious. Loved the kare-kare, next time I’ll ask for more veggies. The only downside would be that I wish the meat in the kare-kare cooked longer so it was more tender but other than that, everything’s perfect! I’ll order the crispy pata next time. The kids got ice cream on the house so John really won them over with that! They would like to go back again so I guess we’ll be coming back soon! Highly recommend this place. When in Carson, one can only eat so much in Jollibee or Chowking. This place is a breath of fresh air and very much worth every dollar with their portions.

I am spoiled and can go to one of my many auntie’s homes in LA for home-cooked Filipino food(with take home!). So although I am a few miles from Carson(Filipino Town) I NEVER eat Filipino food in a restaurant there. Sure, I’ll drive to Glendale for Max’s(their fried chicken is amazeee) or Pinoy Pinay in Cerritos for fresh ‘lumpia’(eggrolls) or my fav ‘sago’t gulaman’(like a sugary tapioca drink with jello). Still, I don’t go to Filipino places in Carson because the sit-down places were not that tasty like how my fam cooks and I don’t like ‘turo-turo’(cafeteria style point and choose dishes). I like food cooked when I order because I am afraid that the food has been sitting there for HELLALONG in room temp(germs!). I have a cleanliness paranoia and might be kinda ‘suplada’(stuck-up). I know. So what a refreshing change to have La Fang in the area, right next to Seafood City! The place is in a pretty busy, small plaza. I parked on the residential street to avoid the mess of pedestrians and backing up of cars every few seconds. It is a small restaurant with a few tables and chairs. It was a warm day and I sat right next to the fan! LOL! It was a smooth move on my part. I noticed a lot of to-go orders going on so note that if you need a good pick-up spot. Check out their website if you are unfamiliar with Filipino food! I enjoyed the food from the crispy pata to the noodles and fresh lumpia sariwa. It was nice that the food was made to order and healthier than most Filipino places. I am not gonna lie — I did eat a lot of crispy skin that was nice and fatty. Oh hell to my health, it was delicious. For $ 10 the crispy pata was larger than I expected. The crispy pork bone was a tasty and affordable meal that could be shared easily with 2 – 3 people. I ate so much of it that I couldn’t eat the noodles. However, I took it to-go and the round microwavable dish was so convenient for when I ate it for brunch the next day — and it was still as delicious and not dry at all. Pluses, for also being good leftover food because I don’t usually eat leftovers. Service was kind and not over-bearing. Also, the owner and cook were super friendly, even took the time to speak with us about our meal and their new restaurant. Great find! I’ll return with Jenn G. to try the other dishes and breakfast!

La Fang Asian Fusion Kitchen is a newly opened Filipino fusion restaurant in the South Bay. When my Unilocal friend Jamie A messaged me about dinner, earlier in the week, I suggested that this would be a perfect spot for us to go. After all, there is no other better way to try out a new Filipino place than with my fellow Filipino Unilocal elite friend :). Jamie and I went to La Fang on a Friday night for dinner. We were warmly greeted right away by the folks there including owner Jun Miranda. The place is really neat and cute with their white oak tables and white ball lanterns hanging from above. Their menu is also nice and neat with photos of some of their popular dishes. For our dishes we chose to order crispy pata(fried pork), miki bihon(egg/rice noodles) and lumpia sariwa(fresh vegetable egg roll crêpe). For drinks, Jamie got the melon sa malamig(ice cold melon drink) and I got the gulaman(red jelly drink). The lumpia sariwa was a nice starter. A lovely thin crêpe wrapper filled with lettuce, veggies and meat and topped off with a semi– sweet sauce. A fine fresh spring roll that is healthy and tasty. It’s almost like starting off a meal with a salad except that this is wrapped in a crêpe. The miki bihon had a good mix of egg noodles and rice noodles and there were plenty of meat and veggie toppings. We had plenty of this left over not because it wasn’t good but because this dish was plentiful and the noodles were so long. It was very flavorful, with the sauteed meat and mix of vegetables, that we didn’t even need to put the lemon that came with it. Lemon is typically used to enhance the flavor of this dish. Crispy pata fried pork goodness! It seemed like every table was ordering this dish and it is no wonder why. At $ 10 this is quite a tasty deal! It’s a pretty decent size of pork and it’s fried to perfection. Nice and crispy, it’s perhaps one of the best crispy pat as around town. This is one of the dishes I can only eat once in awhile though because I know I’ll need to run the extra mile or two or three the next day to make up for it! It’s darn good fried food though and La Fang makes it well. The gulaman drink that I had was very nice as well. It was not too sweet and the gulaman inside was soft. It was a good drink/dessert and a good for hot summer days. Everything was masarap(delicious) and Jun was mabait(nice). I’ll be back to La Fang to bring some family and more friends. I also want to try their breakfast. It’s good to see Filipino restaurant around town. Not only is the food good, the service is friendly and the prices are fair.
