The gals running the bar always do a great job. But ownership LISTENUP: your food is going downhill fast. Club sandwiches look like prison food. The grilled chicken salad, usually my fave, looked pathetic. The chicken parm had no marinara. And the onion rings were tasteless. The food took forever and no one was there! Won’t be going back till I hear things have improved.

First and foremost I give the bartenders 5 stars, very on top of keeping your glass full. And very friendly. The service by them is top shelf. But something has happened to the food. If it ever arrives in the first place, it is something you may not have ever seen. A chicken parm with no marinara, a club sandwich with no bacon lettuce or tomato. Been going here for years and its perhaps the worst bar food I have ever had. Hopefully they can get back on track, its a great little local place to meet your friends and tip a few.

…where the locals hang out… Alright, I’m just going to say that this place blew me away!!! You looking for fine cuisine? …perhaps a killer draft lineup? …even a decent bottle collection? …this is NOT the place to go. ROFL! If you’re looking to spend an amazing night out with friends, or none at all, then you MUST give Back Nine Pub a try!!! I have not tried the food, so please don’t take this review as a culinary report… please help my review by your own personal experience. As a 34yo professional, perhaps my taste is a bit eclectic. At Back Nine Pub, I started my Friday night(9−19−14) by walking into a place with almost no cars in the parking lot. I later learned that the«regulars» parked in the back! :) It was rather slow, but I didn’t expect much in Cary early on a Friday based on personal experience. Before I even made it past the front door I had to say ‘hi’ to «Michelle»(this is not her name, but the killer bartender who knows who I’m speaking of knows who she is… hehehe…). It was my phone call to her that brought me to Back Nine Pub in the first place.(YES, a phone call, to an actual human being, for those poor folks who can’t imagine communicating without email and FB. hehehe) Immediately, I had a conversation with a group of friendly folks seated at an outside table. I had to cut the conversation short just to order a beer. I joined my new friends outside and enjoyed some great conversations… I suppose the moral of this paragraph is if you’re a lover of new experiences and willing to listen to other’s viewpoints, then you really might like this place! Around 10 –10:30, my little corner bar decided to give me a taste of its true flavor. The patrons exploded! I suddenly found myself surrounded by a more diverse crowd than you could imagine. While the 80 – 90’s music rang out from a single outdoor speaker things brilliantly displayed themselves in true form. I was looking for a single dude playing a guitar this night… I was pleased to find a group of folks who knew how to rock the jukebox to the wee hours. College kids, middle-aged dudes, chicks dressed in 80’s flair… you name it… were having a great time outside. In fact, if you even needed to walk into the inner bar to get service(something that should be no big deal if you’re chilling outside, uptight ladies and gents) it was rare indeed. Almost all patrons were enjoying an absolutely beautiful night on the surrounding patio. Even an uncoordinated person such as myself found a friendly game of cornhole. I was told«This is where the locals hang out,» by no less than 5 people over just a few hours. I have been to limited places here in Cary… but I do believe what I was told after experiencing Back Nine Pub. Unfortunately, the Y3*lp reviews(sorry, thought they just might censor it based on corporate buyout BS) are few and far between for this place. I am pleased to welcome all the new folks in the Cary area to this place(I am one of them!)… it’s just a great time! I can’t stress that enough. If you want to be waited on hand-n-foot, then never come here… If you feel you’re entitled to perfection and will except nothing less, then never come here. If you want to have a great time meeting new people in a non-judgmental place, then this is the place for you! Thank you very much for creating such a beautiful place!(That one’s for the bar-staff, Michelle… ROFL!) …and the owners of this place. I wish you the best of luck in the future and I will be around to see how things go! –CHEERS!

Always great bartenders. Very chill, welcoming atmosphere. Good drinks, generous pours. Not the most happening place in the Triangle… but it’s Cary. Go. Enjoy.

My first time and had a blast! Amazing WINGS and the Bartender didn’t miss a beat. With a packed house, before my drink was down to the last sip, she was there to fill it. Great mix of people and good feeling music. People were loud and not afraid of having a great time. Played corn hole on the patio, where I met the owners. Generous and genuine about you sharing your time with at their place. Looking forward to making this little gem a must.

Food was pretty good — got the salad with blackened chicken. It was good. Seemed a bit understaffed — one cook, one bartender and one waitress. They were all working hard and were nice but struggling to keep up. Seemed like there were a lot of regulars… so there may be more than what met the eye last night… We did enjoy our evening. Beer nice and cold!

I first went to the Back Nine Pub when my son came to visit and wanted to see a soccer game scheduled for one afternoon. I don’t have cable so we went to see if they could put the game on. They couldn’t have been friendlier! They searched and found the right channel and asked which TV we wanted them to put it on. We ordered soft drinks with chips and salsa, which was good and not expensive. The atmosphere was friendly and relaxed; no pressure to order more or hurry away. I was impressed! Will go back and try the food next.

When I first turned 21 I was at this place almost every night with my friends. The bartenders are/were amazing, the crowd was always fun and the events they held kept first time visitors coming back. Their food seemed to be always on point, it was also a good thing I knew the cooks ;), and the portions of even the appetizers seemed to be more then filling. The only reason this place isn’t getting a 5 star was the fact that a local cop would come in and sit for hours talking to the locals, waiting for some drunk guy/girl to roam out and start walking. It just seemed to kill the mood of the place to a point where I stopped going for a bit. All in all though, The Back 9 has always been one of my Cary favorites. With great specials, good music and just enough room inside this tiny pub to keep a small crowd entertained all night long.

** Update ** They do offer specials, however, the pricing is pretty high even for a special and they’re not as good as they used to be. There is a bartender with a super fake attitude that had a black eye when I visited. Who wants to try to have a good time when your bartender looks like that? — - — - — - — - — - - It saddens me that this place is under new management. The bar no longer has drink specials, they no longer free-pour, the new layer of paint looks nice, but it looks a lot more empty without the nice overhang above the bar.
