Things that go bump in the night The town of Cassadaga was founded back in 1875 by the famous psychic and spiritualist, George P. Colby. He came down from New York to Florida because three non-corporeal beings named, Seneca, The Philosopher and Unknown led him to the area that was to come the town of Cassadaga. Colby founded the Southern Cassadaga Spiritualist Camp Meeting Association and today the town calls itself the psychic or spiritualist capital of the world. The town is chuck full of mediums, divinations and channeling of spirits. Supposedly some ethereal and mysterious lines of power cross through the town and gives added mystical power to the area and people that take an interesting in such things frequently come here to meditate or whatever it is they do. Lake Colby Park is situated right next to Colby Lake and is right in the middle of all this spooky power. It’s actually a pleasant and lovely little park with hiking trails, boardwalks, playground equipment and fishing areas. At first glance nothing strange is happening here and if you didn’t know about the stories you would just think it is anther cute little park. However people have camped here overnight, filming documentaries and seeing and hearing all kinds of strange, bizarre and spooky stuff happening in the park and by the lake. Or so they say. We walked around the park and had a good time looking at the lake and lovely trees and plants. We looked hard for strange and mysterious stuff but the spookiest thing we saw was some guy drinking a beer in his truck. If you happen to believe in spirits, ghosts and things that go bump in the night this is a very cool place to check out. Even if you don’t Colby Park is still a nice place for a walk.
