Food is always good and service is like a home town feeling! Mexican food is great here all the way to the omelettes!

My family and I have been going to Mike’s for years. We even had a good relationship with the waitresses. I ate there the other day and it appears a new owner has taken over. Prices went up, the Spanish food menu changed and the service has gotten worse. I ordered a BLT and a soda and it was over $ 12. It took over 20 minutes to get my sandwich as well. We won’t go there anymore.

Continuing to explore the eateries around school, this one came highly recommended by Unilocal. When we broke for lunch, I hiked down Castaic road and opened the door. Inside the breezeway there was a memorial display to the area, featuring an old menu arranged with some other artifacts from Castaic’s long highway-side history. Apparently this building has had a long 70 year history of feeding truckers who stop along this street. I opened the second door to the interior of the place, and I was quickly welcomed and politely told to sit anywhere. Looking around the place, I saw a collection of occupied booths, some tables with a view of a large mounted tv, and a bar area. I sat myself down at an empty spot at the bar, and picked up the menu that was handed to me. The girl behind the counter also mentioned that they did have a buffet option available to me. Looking through the truck-stop styled menu, I flipped through appetizers, sandwiches, burgers, Mexican fare, breakfast items and an assortment of beverage items. I was seated directly next to the dessert case, and it’s contents looked delicious and amazing. But I was trying to maintain some semblance of healthy, so I finally settled upon a BLT. Beneath the sandwich heading, the menu said«All of our sandwiches come with your choice of fries, fruit or homemade coleslaw.» I decided to further healthy my meal choice by opting for the side of fruit. A little bit later, my sandwich was placed before me. The sandwich was thick with veggies, healthy, and had a copious side of fruit. An additional small«salad» comprised of a pickle atop some shredded lettuce lay next to the sandwich. The BLT had a ton of thick and crispy B, a thick layer of L and a good amount of T in the toasted sandwich bread. The side of fruit was fresh and recently cut. It was a very good BLT. After finishing my sandwich, I took a moment to enjoy the meal, and I asked the girl behind the counter for the bill. After an attempted desert sale by the girl, it was handed to me. Looking at it, I noticed an extra dollar being charged for the side of fruit. I was a bit confused, but figured that it was simply the price of being healthy. Total was about 15ish after tax and tip. I took care of my bill, picked up a Mike’s Diner refrigerator magnet for the rest of my movie class, and headed out the door into the hot Castaic winter afternoon.

Chose Mike’s after driving along the main street looking for a lunch spot. We wanted some soup and the day’s special was albondigas. Served in a big bowl, the soup really hit the spot – not salty, big sausage meatballs, lots of carrots and other veggies. The waitress was very attentive, the cook came out to check on us and the owner even chatted for a while. The sriracha ketchup was a tasty topping for the crispy fries. Overall, a great lunch and I would head for this place over any other local spot.

Got your apology Mike. Glad to see that you answer your Unilocal reviews. As I said, I have been coming in for many years and I appreciate your review. I will be in again and hopefully this is a wake up call for you to get to know your long time residents and invite them to try your restaurant again. Thank you again

Have not had a bad dish here yet. Classic diner atmosphere and food. Great for breakfast, burgers, enchiladas, apple pie, etc. Open 24 hours! It’s hard to describe, but even the simple things here are far more flavorful than other diner-like places.

I’ve been curious about this little diner and finally decided to give them a try this morning. Well, I’m glad I did because the food and service were great! I ordered the steak and eggs and the server(a pleasant young lady) asked me if I wanted the NY steak or the top sirloin. Wow! I wasn’t expecting to get to choose which type of steak I wanted. I picked the NY steak and it turned out to be one of the best steaks I’ve ever had. Seriously! It was nicely grilled to a medium and very tender($ 19.95). I also liked their hash browns and thick white toast. My friend also really enjoyed his Denver Omelet. Who woulda thunk there would be such a good breakfast joint in Castaic? Our server was friendly and efficient and she kept my hot tea refilled and brought me honey and lemon. The food did take about 15 minutes to arrive, but I didn’t really mind because everything was freshly prepared with good quality ingredients. I also liked how the owner came around to ask us how we enjoyed the meal. I will definitely be back!

I have ate here twice in the past 2 months. If I could eat here more often, I would. Food was delicious, servers were very nice and helpful and the prices are reasonable. If you are in the area and need a good meal, you really should just stop here.

What an unexpectedly wonderful little gem. We stopped in for dinner on a rather long car trip and had a very tasty meal. My husband ordered the burger and I had the cream of potato soup. It was so good I asked for a second bowl! It reminded me of soup my grandmother used to make. It wasn’t fancy, just exactly what you’d expect from a ma and pa diner. Good food, great service, and a low key atmosphere. We will make a point to stop here the next car trip we take.

My team and I had just finished the Spartan Race at Castiac Lake and we were STARVING. Found Mike’s Original Diner on Unilocal and since it had pretty good ratings we decided to give it a try. Little did I know that 6 hours later I would be throwing up in the toilet all night. The tuna salad and the tuna melt gave my boyfriend and I food poisoning… It had to be the tuna because everyone else in our group were perfectly fine. They all ordered burgers, tacos and chicken pot pies. The menu stated that their tuna wasn’t canned, so it was probably not fresh. Man, it was so not the business throwing up after a super tiring day of racing! Another reason for two stars: Service was SLOW. And I mean REALLY slow. It took awhile for us to get menus. When our server finally came to ask us for drinks, we told her we were ready to order as well. But she left to make the drinks without even taking our orders and we had to wait 20 more minutes before anyone came back… I saw the other server basically running around trying to give everyone their dishes. I was a server before and the first thing I did if tables were trying to wave you down was to just take their orders and give it to the kitchen so the food could be prepared while you’re serving everyone else’s food! But this lady just wouldn’t take our orders… she saw us try to call her over like 5 times. Besides the slow service and the food poisoning, the chicken pot pie was good and the curry ketchup was pretty addicting too. Garlic fries were a little too crispy for my liking. My boyfriend really enjoyed the one bite of our friend’s burger though. I hope this diner fixes up their service by hiring more servers. And please check your fish to make sure it’s fresh before serving it to your customers!

I haven’t tried my food yet, but I’m already annoyed with this place. On the menu it says«unless noted, all of our breakfast items are made with…» And it lists a number of traditional breakfast items. When I saw steel cut oatmeal, I was excited and thought«wow, oatmeal, eggs and potatoes, for that much?!» So that’s what I ordered, expecting all of those items since the menu did not say they weren’t included. Well, it was too good to be true. Apparently, none of the breakfast items are made with any of the items listed. When you’ve been driving since 4:30 am the last thing you want to deal with is a misleading menu. To be fair, the service was very good(hence 3 stars instead of 2). The server saw that I was a bit frustrated and did his best to accommodate me while remaining friendly(which I know can be difficult when dealing with a cranky customer).

Can’t lie. Good food. Was dropping our kids off at air soft around the corner and didn’t want to wait for 45 minutes in town at 10 am for breakfast. Been here before, but thought I would leave a review this time. I love«whole in the wall» type places and don’t mean anything negative by it. Just good food and good service.

Super yummy. Fast, friendly service. Huge portions. Ended up taking my home fries home. Haha In the mood for a very cool, newly spiffed-up diner? Come to Mike’s. We will definitely be back! Ordered a Bloody Mary(without the Guinness they usually float on top). They make their own Bloody Mary mix. Very tasty. Also ordered 3 poached eggs and sausage. Came with hash browns or home fries and toast. Very well made. Bacon and egg omelet was very good as well. Breakfast here when your passing through. SO worth it! UPDATE Service is slow today. Not quite sure why. UPDATE Back with our fav server. Awesome Bloody Mary. No Guinness float Seems Guinness has been removed. Yummy, generous portions.

Stopped for a burger on a road trip. We picked the right place! Kerri mixed up a delicious chocolate shake to enjoy while the kitchen cooked our fresh ground burgers. We had The Works. Bacon, cheddar, onion lettuce &BBQ sauce. Very tasty!

Great place to go for lunch! My friend came here before I did and had Mexican food and said it was delicious, but he saw several people ordering the chicken pot pie. So we had to come back and try the pot pie. We ordered one and split it for $ 12.99, pricey, but its a big pie. The pie looked full to bursting, but in reality there was only filling in the dish. The filling was delicious with plenty of chicken breast pieces, the crust was also good. The location used to be a truck stop, but has now been converted to a local restaurant. However there still are multiple trucks parked in back and quite a bit of truck traffic coming in and out of the back parking lot. After lunch we ordered a slice of apple pie with vanilla ice cream. That deserved five stars. It was the best apple pie and ice cream I’ve ever had at a restaurant. We asked for it warmed up, but the waitress forgot and it was still the best I’ve had. I would definitely return here to try some of their other food and for some more delicious apple pie and ice cream.

Excellent HOMEMADE corned beef hash… the real deal. Many items are homemade… not prepackaged frozen. Club sandwich was the best I’ve had. Fries perfectly crispy. When locals refer you, you know it’s good. Don’t pass up this old school diner. Open 24 house a day.
