Two years ago when I purchased my house, I had to have it painted. My contractor purchased the paint and stain at Curtis Lumber, so this past weekend when I noticed some peeling, and I started«flicking» and I couldn’t stop and the next thing I knew I scraped a very noticable amount of paint off of my house(because I can’t just give myself a relaxing weekend, I must create a project and make myself exhausted), I went back to Curtis Lumber to get more paint, and some caulk and wood filler. Initially they were a little annoying, but once I established that I knew what I was doing(stripping the paint to bare wood, sanding filing large gaps with wood filler and sanding before caulking, etc), they were very helpful. They matched the paint perfectly(I had a large chip from the house and I remembered the maker and name of the color, which helped). The match is perfect. The dude also gave me some extra tips to try and help the paint last longer. I want to check out their kitchen show room, but fear that it will probably be out of my price range for my upcoming remodel.

Unfortunately, I can’t recommend this store. I located some wood decking on the Curtis Lumber web site and wanted to see it in person. This would have been a substantial order as the deck I am building is large and has two levels. When I walked up to the counter, it took a while before an unpleasant man acknowledged me. I showed him the printout from their web site of the product I was interested in and asked him about it. He curtly replied«We don’t have any of that.» End of discussion. I made one more attempt at a civil discussion because, if the product turned out to be what I needed, I was willing to order it and wait. So I asked if there were any samples I could see. Again, the man abruptly stated, «No, you could try Ballston Spa.» I guess this company doesn’t really want to sell lumber.

The last time I went in this store was almost 17 years ago and the staff was rude and condescending. I vowed to never go back but I was in need of some fencing that I can’t seem to find anywhere. I walked in with my husband and we asked where they kept their fencing and the guy behind the counter was extremely rude, behaving as if we didn’t have any idea what we were looking for. Their customer service skills are as nonexistent as the cars in their parking lot. Much better off taking my money where someone at least appreciated it.
