I’ll start out by saying if you order from Starbucks on the regular then you won’t like this place. It’s not for the guy that expects his towels folded into swans on the pillow next to a fruit basket and some mints. This place is a family owned business that is maintained BY the family. They make the effort to water the plants hanging in the rooms(which proves that the rooms are maintained even when they’re empty). The room service will make the beds, straighten up, and even fold any clothes that you have laying around(which I can understand that being weird for some people). I personally have no gripes about this place, especially for the price. It was perfect for my snowboarding weekend.

Not bad at all for a budget motel. I mean, you can’t expect that much for a place that’s this inexpensive compared to other accommodations in the area. All I was looking for was a decent place to wash up and sleep, and this motel did the job fine. I just happened to see one of the staff members outside when I pulled in, and she opened up the office so I could check in. I guess the office was already closed otherwise? There was a sign on the office door to knock at the green building down the driveway if there was no one there, so I would have had to do that if I hadn’t seen her.(Which wouldn’t have been that big deal, probably.) The room and bathroom were clean, even if a bit aged. The bathroom had clean towels and basic toiletries(even disposable toothbrushes) available. There was a small area with a fridge with freezer, microwave, dishes, glasses, mugs, and a coffee maker. I found out the next morning that the coffee condiment bag was probably old because the moisture from the creamer leaked out and fused with the sugar packets. Good thing I didn’t really need it. The coffee was pre-portioned out in a zip-lock bag. Not sure how old it was but it tasted fine when I made the coffee. The chain lock on the door was also broken, but the motel was so quiet and not busy that I wasn’t worried about someone breaking in. I was also in the room next to the motel owner and door to my room was well-lit, so that also helped. Not sure if I would have felt the same my room was located farther away from there. There was also free wi-fi which was essential because there was pretty much no cellular service(at least on my carrier). Check-out was also super easy — just drop the key in the key drop. I would stay here again, if I needed just the basics.

When you read other reviews about this place, you know folks were expecting more. This place is not a chain hotel. It’s not going to be fancy. You’re not getting towel service and you’re not getting a continental breakfast. But you will get a tidy room. Yes, the furniture and decorations are old and a little strange but that comes with price. There is typically nobody in the front office, but that’s because the owner-proprietor lives on-site. There is a charming(handwritten) sign on the front door stating just that and to seek him out. It is Asian-immigrant owned, so the decorating and color scheme is a little different. If you have a problem with this, go somewhere else. For the money, this place is a great value. If you want a place with white towels and crispy sheets, stay somewhere else.

I uh… I hate to be that person who comes in after there is only one other review and it’s a good one. to give a not so good one…(deep breath) I guess for the price, it’s fine(which gives it one more star than I would have given it). There is definitely something about it that you can appreciate if you aren’t into places that you could stop anywhere like Motel 6 or Days Inn. If you like a little personalized place, that may or may not be very well kept together — Go. It was a little concerning to hear the man at the front say«I think this room doesn’t have anyone in it.» He then called that room nearly 5 times without an answer, before another man who worked there showed up and told us the room we actually needed to go to.(Shouldn’t you keep an eye on that?). The credit card number that was used to book the room was just lying there, written on a piece of paper. Which was also kind of scary. And when we got to the room it was smoking(which we asked for non), the door had gaps along the top and bottom, there were questionable stains, the rug in the bathroom was actual a rolled up towel(with a sassy bunny on it that said«I know I’m PERFECT. Now stop staring.»), the rugs in the actually room were just cut up pieces of carpet, and there was a little tub of plastic forks… it’s endearing in a way. Like… if your poor aunt/grandma was providing you with a room. You appreciate it, but you cringe when you lay down in the bed because you wonder when was the last time it was washed. But like the person before me said, it’s a place to crash. Maybe bring your own pillow and blankets though…

When I left this«motel,» it felt like an escape from prison. Or maybe the feeling was more akin to the blind receiving a retinal implant to see light and color for the first time. Whatever the feeling is might perhaps be beyond literary capturing. Just know that to leave this place is to know relief. Folks, I could launch into specifics, I could launch into superlatives, but what’s the point? I could tell you how I probably would’ve rather slept in the car, or in the huge corrugated drain pipe they had out front, than on the slanted and wobbly cement slab I slept on that night. I could talk about the plastic shopping bag used in the bathroom trash can, the visible grime on the walls, the blood and semen of other men and women on the sheets(I am serious), or the«smoking room» we were graciously given after requesting a «non-smoking room.» I could go on a tirade, I could be a Unilocaling Cicero, but what is the point?. (Deep breath) But I believe that we as human beings have the power to rise above and reinvent our past, don’t you agree? With that notion in mind, I will tell you that the owner of the Four Seasons in Catskill, NY had a great smile. I could see the burnt incense sticks in front of his Buddha statue, and to know that religious incense burned in this establishment is nice. Don’t you think that’s nice? Yeah. Yeah, that’s nice. I was hesitant about this place, I won’t lie. After being turned away from multiple hotel chains due to not being 21, I was becoming desperate and called here to see if they would possibly accommodate an 18 year old. Thankfully, they were able to and I booked a room for two nights. Upon first glance, the grounds don’t seem all that well-maintained and the proclaimed ‘playground’ is basically just two small swing sets put next to each other. The pool was closed up so I don’t have much of an opinion on it. I walked into the office and was greeted by a plethora of chinese decorations. After about a ten minute wait, the owner came in and checked me in. He was very friendly and courteous and was sure to warn me about the upcoming snow and the less than perfect driving conditions that would follow. The room itself was fine, it was actually quite quaint and very spacious for the price. The cleaning service(which was basically the other guy who owns the place) came rate late, around 4pm, but he cleaned a lot and even folded all of our messy clothes. Overall, it’s not a bad motel for the price, and it definitely has a strange charm to it. I would recommend it if you’re in the area and looking for a place to crash.
