Mason’s Chicken N Seafood Grill

Usually I have a great experience here. Today I can to dine in as I usually do and once I walked in along with my guest the young lady working the front looked at us as if we were bothering her by coming inside to eat. I went along with it and placed our order then got our drinks and sat in the dinning area while waiting for our food. Usually when dining in the front counter person brings the food to the table. Today the front counter girl sat it on the counter and never even called us to tell us that was out food. Instead the food sat on the counter for 15 min while we wondered if the food was ours or someone’s at the drive thru done it was packed to go in a bag. We were clearly eating in today. Anyway, after seeing the food just sitting there we went to the front and asked if the food was ours. It was and she wanted us to figure it out on our own. I love the food but his visit was not a good one. I hope the management takes a closer look at who is the face of Mason’s while new customer are visiting this place. Hope to be back soon and see some changes.

The service here was terrible normally I get great service from malashia and mya but they hired a new girl and she is so rude. Every time he gets a good cashier he let them go for bad Ones. I want be back to masons the food is great but the service sucks … Its not worth it

I gave Mason’s a try since I was hungry and nearby. As a first timer, I got the catfish basket which includes 2 filets, fries, & hush puppies.
The fries were really good and seasoned well, except for the few that caught the grease from the catfish. For the price, it was a lot of food but the fish wasn’t that good to me. The coating was tasty and crispy yet the fish itself did not taste or look like normal catfish. The hot sauce actually saved the fish.
There is much to choose from on the menu including grilled items. I caught a glimpse of the interior from the drive-​thru and it has that down-​home, cozy eatery look.
I’m a huge critic when it comes to catfish so it takes a lot to win me over and this didn’t do it for me.

The service is terrible! I often frequent the Desoto location and thought that since Ahn owns both locations, the service would be equivalent. I waited in the drive-​thru window for 15 minutes before I had to get the attention of the wait staff at the window. When the young lady finally opened the window, she did not remember what my order was. I had to reorder my food! After another 5 minute wait, I reversed to see if there were other patrons inside who were waiting. There were none! I then pulled up to the window AGAIN and watched while the two young ladies stood and engaged in a conversation. No one mentioned to me what the status of my order was nor did they even attempt to look busy while they waited to fulfill my order. I watched them converse with each other as well as the cook (I presume) until I watched as an order was filled. To my horror, the order was bagged and sat at a different window inside! At this point, I was at Mason’s drive-​thru for 35 minutes and furious. I not only called the complaint number, but I am making it my personal mission to post on every site I can about this location’s service. I will NEVER waste my time here again.

I waited at the drive through about 15 minutes, but thought that would be ok if I could get some good catfish. I’m ALWAYS looking for decent catfish since I grew up in the deep South and am used to catfish cabins with farm raised catfish. My mouth watering, I waited patiently. That was MY mistake. This is NOT the place for even decent catfish, much less good catfish!
When I got home with it, the fish was raw. Not undercooked… it was raw. Pink raw. It was about ¼ of an inch thick at its thickest, and did I mention raw? Sorry, but I’m used to filets that are MUCH thicker than that and cooked to a flakey, white, delicious tenderness that melts in your mouth. Even the hushpuppies (? little oblong sticks… real hushpuppies are round, like balls) were horrible!
I guess if you don’t know anything about catfish this is a good place (according to other reviews), but I’ll never go back.
Last note… since they also have seafood, you might want to ask if they cook their chicken and catfish with the seafood since a lot of people have allergies. Does anybody know where I can get some GOOD catfish?

Ordered a salad, grilled chicken and dirty rice. Much of the lettuce was brown the chicken was ok and the rice was edible. Service was ok but doubt I would go back.

Very good catfish! Crispy on the outside, tender and perfectly cooked inside. Clean establishment minus the typical fried food smell. Husband and I enjoyed it and we will return.

Not a fan of catfish — but this place is really good. Had the catfish 2 piece special for 4.99 and the portion was huge. Really felt guilty for not paying more. Food was fresh — super hot — huge portions — tasted excellent. First time here and we will be back. Customer service was great and the food was ready fast. There is ways people in here so shocked there aren’t more good reviews on line. Everyone I spoke to agreed the food was great. Even a truck driver from Louisiana said this catfish is better than back home. He drives 25 miles out of route to eat here. We will be back.

I’m almost reticent to review Mason’s, for I fear another good review may make them too visible and they may change with a rush of new business.
This place is a hidden gem. Very traditional fried foods… where else can you get those fried pork chops like my grandmother used to make? Tasty chicken tenders, flavorful hot wings, even stuff like hot links. The catfish is always fresh and crispy. They have crinkle fries, which I love. The staff is always super nice, the service quick, and the place is kept very clean.
Their portions are huge, by the way, so order accordingly. For the amount of food you get, and its quality, prices are very reasonable.

We stopped by several weeks ago to try this out and it seems they might have had an issue in the back because the smell of cleaning solution was overwhelming so we left. Today we were looking for a place for lunch, read the reviews, and decided to give it a shot again. Very glad we did. The catfish was crisp and not soggy the way many places are. The batter was just spicy enough and they had excellent tartar sauce. The fries were not anything spectacular but because the portions of fish were so huge they weren’t needed to fill you up. We got 2 catfish baskets and 3 kids meals for the 5 of us and took at least ¹⁄₃ of it home. We will be back for sure. They have locations in gp, desoto, and are building in dville. They need to come to midlothian! It’s a close toss up between here and Top Cat just down the road as to which tastes better but for the price, Masons wins hands down!

The food isn’t the best, but price wise it’s not that bad. I wish the wings were bigger and the shrimp seems over cooked. The fish is decent. Don’t recommend the fried mushrooms. The crust is good but the actual mushroom itself is watery.

Not the best catfish, shrimp, fried oysters or tenders you’ll find but for the area it’s about as good as you can get for the price. Nice inside and they have drive thru.

I will not be returning to Masons ever again. The food was cold fish, fries and chicken tenders. They should be ashamed I don’t even want to waste my time saying more. I should have read the reviews before going. At least I know now.

There are good things and bad things at Masons, but the good are so good that you’re willing to put up with the bad. I had the two piece fried catfish, my wife had the grilled catfish, and my son had the fried shrimp. My catfish came out hot, well seasoned, and absolutely delicious. The fries and hushpuppies were frozen and limp. An earlier review referred to them as seasoned fries, these were crinkle cut frozen french fries, and the only seaoning they had was a little salt. They weren’t like the seasoned curly fries that a lot of places sell, that effectively cover the taste of the frozen potato. My wife’s grilled catfish was hot, well seasoned and also delicious. Her dirty rice was wonderful, and the salad that came with it wasn’t just a scoop of iceberg lettuce, it had mixed greens and big chunks of cucumber and tomato. My son’s fried shrimp was obviously frozen, OK but not up to the caliber of the other entrees. His sides were identical to mine.
The catfish fillets, particularly for the fried catfish, were enormous. The servings of the fries were also generous, but since they were limp frozen fries, that didn’t add much. If the shrimp hadn’t been frozen prebreaded shrimp out of a bag, they would have rated four stars. If they’d gone another step and had decent fries, or the option of having the wonderful dirty rice with the fried entrees, they’d have moved up to five stars. As it is, you can get a meal at Masons that would make you wonder why someone would only give them three stars. Unfortunately, you can also get a meal that would make you wonder why someone would give them that many stars.
My advice, go with the catfish, and you’ll be very happy with your entrees. If you get the fried catfish, spring for the extra side order of dirty rice and toss out the fries. At $ 4.99 for two gigantic filets, it’s still a reasonably priced meal. Masons isn’t a bad place to eat, you just have to know what to order and what not to order.

Driving around Cedar Hill we needed a place for dinner, and couldn’t resist the $ 5 special boasted in the window (the line of cars in the drive-​thru was promising as well!).
We LOVE this place and have been back 2 or 3 times! The Basket Special really is the best thing going. Two huge catfish pieces and a TON of seasoned fries!
We’ve tried a few of the appetizers and haven’t been disappointed by any of them, but my favorite was the lemon pepper shrimp.
A complete meal for two, including appetizers, for around $ 15? You can’t go wrong with that! No wonder they are so busy (especially at dinner time). Be sure to take advantage of the call ahead feature to be able to ger your order «to go» more quickly!

A little sign boasting a $ 5 catfish special and a serious craving for fried fish drew me to Mason’s drive-​thru line.
Boy was I surprised by the 2 huge catfish filets (where are these catfish from?) presented atop a mountain of fries and served with the fried catfish essentials — hot sauce & tartar sauce. The fish was blanketed in a crispy crust leaving the fish steaming hot on the inside. So good and very well seasoned. A little salty, but my blood pressure is good so I can take it.
In addition to the delicious (and affordable) fish, the staff was super friendly and service was fast — I had my fish in about 5 minutes without having to leave my car. So pleased with my new discovery!

I did not like it at all! Too high food was way to greasy. I had catfish platter. I bet it would have tasted better if there was not so much grease. Also the catfish pieces had less fish more batter.

Mason’s, Shame on you! Yes, you’re cheap and bad and your food is nasty, nasty!!!
Please, don’t write good reviews about yourself. I fell for it, but I hope others won’t.

Great food at great prices. You won’t be disappointed.
Serving portions are very adequate. I can barely finish each meal.
I’ve recommended this place to others and all have states their satisfaction with the food.
