I love this place! The atmosphere makes you feel like your having dinner at your family’s house. Last time we were there we tried the deep dish pizza with garlic and spinach. It was amazing!

Easily my favorite pizza place in Cedar Rapids, possibly my favorite restaurant overall given how good the pizza is. Both the New York and Chicago styles are excellent. I would choose this place over Zooey’s any day of the week, they don’t even compare.

Best New York thin in the area. Fresh ingredients and perfect blend of spices. Intimate environment that appears to do a ton of carry out business. Would direct any traveler or local here without hesitation. Glad they are here!!!

Had a deep dish Chicago and it was outstanding. The crust was perfectly cooked. This was my first time there and was pleasantly surprised.

our team went here after a soccer tournament on a Saturday night around 730. The woman who waited on us possibly the owner couldn’t be any nicer and sweeter to accommodate us, she made us welcome! The food was absolutely outstanding. The Greek salad was so good that next time I’m going to order two portions of it. It’s a very family-style meal so you can order many things and share. The Greek salad to serve anywhere from 6 to 8 people but it was so good that will definitely order a bigger size so we can all have seconds. this is probably one of the best restaurants in Cedar Rapids.

Close to home Pizza parlor. Not my favorite Za by any means, it certainly beats the majority of pies served locally. Inside, it’s not very spacious, but there are booths and a few tables. Wait staff changes frequently, so the level of service is hit or miss. Be nice if they offered occasional specials like other establishments do, particularly on Tuesdays. Price is pretty much in line with all of the other pizza places in town. No beers on tap, just a wine cooler where you grab your own bottle or can.

I am so disappointed. When I first had cappy’s pizza, I was so happy. The Cappy beat out even Tomaso’s Mombo Combo, which is quite a feat in my eyes. Unfortunately, as the months went by, I feel like the quality of this pizza place has gone down. The first offense was takeout where the crust was black, and I mean burnt to a crisp and tasted bad. I’ve had takeout where I got home and the pizza had been hilariously tipped to the side so all the ingredients were only baked on maybe a fourth of the pizza(the cheese was still there so I know they saw it and it didn’t move in the car) and the last time I was there, we waited quite awhile for a pizza that was soggy. The server said that there was something wrong with the new baker and a lot of dough had just been turning out that way. Yuck. I would have had to eat it with a spoon; I am not exaggerating. If Cappy’s can get back on the level they were when they opened, I would go back, but honestly there’s enough good pizza places in Cedar Rapids unless someone else buys it for me, I’m probably not going to try it again. Why waste time and money?

I’m not honestly sure what I can say about this place, went there for my birthday because its close. Service was meh, and there were about 3 – 4 tables occupied. The bread sticks were good, the pizza just fell flat for me. The sauce while made in house, which i fully appreciate was just bland. Quite sad because I have heard such great things. I’m sure at some point Ill go back, and hopefully it was just a fluke, but… Oh they do have a pretty cool retro vibe thing going on.

Food is delicious, especially the calzone which a lot of places don’t get right. Have had some issues with on time service but they have offered to compensate.

Stopped in for a salad, deep dish pizza and a cold beer. Staff was wonderful and so was the food. Definitely will be coming back.

Delicious! We got a Greek salad, cheese bread & a New York style Cappy’s. Everything was so good and the waitress was so so sweet! The place is really cute and the menus are cool, they’re old record covers! I would definitely recommend!

Best pizza I’ve had in the Midwest. Rivals New York pizza. Simple yet delicious menu with premium ingredients. Salads are well thought out, pizzas are perfectly cooked. Not too expensive for what you get. The interior is awesome and they reuse old vinyl records for menus. Haven’t drank beers but they have a good selection of craft beers. Definitely spend the extra 3 dollars here for a pizza instead of a chain!

The best pizza I have found in Cedar Rapids. You can tell it was a testament of love for these folks to produce this food and a personal mission to triumph to be the best in the area. I do agree with the other reviewer who said it was not real NY Style. My argument is that the crust is awesome anyway. Also agree with the other, other reviewer who wanted more pungent flavors such as garlic. 3 Stars for adding retro elements Zero Stars = Location! New era strip mall that lacks sidewalks, crosswalks or general ease of walking to provoke a healthy, family and pedestrian friendly neighborhood atmosphere.(Of course, that’s not the fault of Cappy’s, but the fault of Cedar Rapids developers and city planners.) So that’s why they have 4 stars instead of 5.

My husband, son, and I went to Cappys after finding it on Unilocal and reading positive reviews. We went in skeptical, since we’ve tried numerous local pizza places that everyone raves about, only to get a mediocre pizza at an inflated price. Cappys exceeded our expectation with their delicious tossed salad, cheesy bread, and New York style pizza. Wow! Prices are very reasonable, service was great. Kid friendly, very laid back, clean, and cozy atmosphere. You should definitely give Cappys a try.

This is definitely my favorite pizza place in town. I’ve only tried the New York style which was really good! Additionally, the ambience of the place is really cool and cosy! Love this place.

Best pizza in the ia city area. Make this a weekly ritual! A laid back vibe, but quality food. Good for a quick bite or longer sit down meal. One of my favorite Cedar Rapids eateries.

The calzone was fit for two. I could barely eat half of it before getting full. Filled with meat and cheese. One of the best I’ve had. The value was ridiculous. A calzone the size of a big plate and I was able to get it for less than $ 10. Highly recommend. To top it all off they had trivial pursuit cards at the table to look at/play while eating and waiting.

Cappy’s opened a few months ago in the former Emil’s Deli location on C St NE and Boysen Rd. This a family owned business where everyone helps out. The people are the best part, they put their hearts into this little business! The first thing you’ll notice is how well they transformed a strip mall location into a cozy, 60’s retro pizzeria. The tall dark wood booths were hand made by the father and they provide plenty of privacy. The lighting, floors, nostalgic signs, pop bottles, pennants and art on the wall were all done by the family. The menus are pasted over old vinyl album covers. Tiny lamps at each booth emits a warm glow and the Trivial Pursuit cards on the table keep you entertained while waiting for your order to arrive. Don’t leave without trying the Greek salad. The sweet and lightly seasoned dressing is the best I’ve had. It comes with a couple scoops of potato salad in the bowl. I know that sounds weird but it really works. Then comes the star of the show, the deep dish Chicago pizza with an awesome buttery crust that doesn’t overpower the toppings. You won’t find a better deep dish outside the Windy City! We like the thin crust too. Tip: If you don’t mind saving a few bucks be sure to like their Facebook page. They do special offers all the time, when you know the«secret word.» Clue: It’s not Pee-Wee Herman. But I could see them using that one. :)

My wife and I each have one thing that’s incredibly important to us in a pizza. For her it’s the crust. For me it’s the sauce. She loved the crust, and I loved the sauce. I can’t decide whether I would rate Cappy’s Detroit pizza as just above, or just below, my previous favorite in Iowa. It’s too close to call. Cappy’s is a little bit cheaper, and a good amount closer to my house. So I have a feeling that Cappy’s will become our regular pizza spot. They seem to have a standard pizza place menu, with standard toppings, calzones, and sodas. It’s also a pretty nice place inside. So, if you’re shooting for the whole«I’m not trying too hard» date, Cappy’s would probably be a fit.
