Service was friendly and fast. The server was super sweet which is why I gave 3 stars instead of 2. Unfortunately the food was pretty bad. I had a taco supremo and chicken taco. Nothing authentic about any of it. Tasted like everything was from a can and my tacos were on flour tortillas instead of corn and arrived wrapped in tin foil. My daughter had the beef tostada. It was bland hamburger meat with shredded iceberg lettuce, under ripened tomato and the tortilla was soggy in the middle. The lime margarita was pretty good but my daughter’s raspberry iced tea was severely over sweetened and had a strange flavor. Even though getting our food was very fast, getting the check at the end was painfully slow. Mostly because I couldn’t wait to get the heck out of the place!

Great place! Love the margaritas! Get the rolled quesadilla! Chicken or steak, both are excellent. The nachos are great as is the service! Check it out if you haven’t!

It took having the oil changed at Tires Plus right next door to discover this little restaurant. We were the first ones there early in the morning but we were seated and immediately taken care of. I had the Chili’s relleno with being and a side salad of guacamole tomatoes cheese and of course lettuce. My girlfriend had huevos rancheros with beans and rice. I enjoyed my meal the chile relleno was not the best I’ve ever eaten but was definitely adequate. My girlfriend because of her dislike for extremely hot food was not pleased with the sauce over the eggs. However to the waiters credit, he did suggest that she get the sauce on the side, and she didn’t. I’ve only recently moved from California to sunny Iowa, so I do have to admit I have been spoiled by excellent Mexican food. This is the first Mexican restaurant I’ve eaten at in Cedar Rapids and I would place it in the category of being adequate. As time goes by I’m sure I will try other Mexican restaurants in town, and may modify this review later.

One of my friends was in town and suggested we go out for lunch! She asked me if I had a craving for anything and of course it was Mexican! And I can always leave it to her to find us a good Mexican place, afterall she did spend a semester in Mexico. In all the years I lived, visited, etc. C.R. I have never been to Fiesta Del Sol. Always driven by it, never gone in… until now. It was pretty quiet, but by American standards we were having a fairly late lunch. They have lots of specials and the menu is pretty extensive. I have a feeling if you have a picky eater, they will find something on the menu to eat. After we were seated we were immediately brought chips and salsa and our drink orders taken. The chips were good, I always worry the chips will be stale, but they weren’t. We also ordered a large guacamole. It was delicious, although I have to be honest, I haven’t met a guacamole I didn’t like… yet. With so many items on the menu, I really had no clue what to order because as usual I was in danger of my eyes being much, much bigger than my stomach. However, the one thing that sealed it for me is the fact that I can never find a good enchilada in the UK and I think enchiladas are great for cold days! I decided to go with the Enchilada Rancheras. Our food came quickly and we did spend a lot of time doing the girl chat/gossip thing, so it was nice that our waiter checked on us a couple times, but did leave us to chat. I completely misread the menu because it said that the Enchilada was topped with pork, which means it was filled with cheese. I typically stay away from those because I am never sure which cheeses are going to trigger the lactose intolerance alarm. However, whatever cheese they used didn’t end up bothering me. The pork was delicious and it was accompanied by lettuce, guacamole, sour cream, and tomatoes. My only complaint… there wasn’t enough pork! It isn’t super expensive and I think I would love to come back and try more from their menu!

Great Mexican food in Iowa! We had the fajitas dorado– great combo of ground beef, shrimp, chicken, and steak. Who would think we’d find such good Mexican food in Iowa??!
Authentic Mexican. My family has come here since they opened and have always had a great experience. Ordered mushroom fajitas tonight for first time and they are incredible! My daughter ordered her usual kids taco with rice and beans and practically licked her plate clean. I tend to be a salsa freak, and the salsa here is wonderful. There is some heat and plenty of cilantro(the best part!) They could bottle this stuff and make a killing. As always, great experience. :)

How can anyone in Cedar Rapids not love Fiesta del Sol? Great margaritas, food is as good as any Mexican food you’ll find in Eastern Iowa, and the service is always friendly. My family’s been eating there since it first opened. Five stars for the overall experience; prices are reasonable, too.

The food was just ok. We went on a Friday night and I had a taco salad and my husband had mushroom fahetas. My taco salad was cold by the time I got it. We waited along time for our entrees and the service was terrible. We were served the chips and salsa but the waiter took 20 min to take our drink orders. He never came back to see if we liked our food and we waited another 20 – 25 min for our bill after we asked for it. They were very understaffed. And the manager was barking orders at his staff but not lifting a finger to help them. The Manager needs training. He can make or break the place.

Good Mexican food by Iowa standards. I was very happy with the salsa and the tacos I ordered. It’s hard to account for how much of my enjoyment was due to my already good mood, but I came here on my first day off in months and just hung out for a while enjoying some Negra Modelos, chips and salsa, and good tacos. Great place.

There is no redeeming quality to this place. The food is horrible. The service only mildly better. I guess for the price I shouldn’t complain. But you could go to Taco Bell instead, and why wouldn’t you? Oh, and the 1 star is only because I had to.

Good standard Mexican food. Had the enchiladas with a side of rice. Plenty of food, good flavor without being too overpowering.

I always judge a Mexican Restaraunt by it’s salsa. Fiesta Del Sol didn’t disappoint. I had the burrito special for lunch and really enjoyed it. The atmosphere is great and the wait staff is friendly.

Excellent food and service. The Pollo Popeye is fantastic. Only complaint is that their sopapillas aren’t really sopapillas, they are more like churros — flat crispy tortilla with honey and whip cream instead of puffy pillows. But I won’t hold that against them.

The food was superb, the service was bad. Thus, I am forced to straddle the line and give them three stars. Scene: We sit down at the table. The busboy brings us a basket of chips and salsa immediately(!). For the next five minutes, the waiter is nowhere to be found. We have no water and are eating chips and salsa. Srsly. The quesadilla relleno with beans, cheese and chicken was out-of-this world. The taquitos were well-seasoned and both were served with sour cream and guacamole. The lime margaritas on the rocks were perfectly mixed and thus, were an excellent meal accompaniment. All of these things combined to form the perfect storm that is known as bliss. Plus they get the food to your table super-fast. The décor is totally classic which makes the whole thing kind of perfect.
