They have a great selection of delicious vegan/vegetarian sushi and great lunch deals. The yam tempura was great too, I liked it almost as much as Sushi House’s. We are very lucky to have such great Sushi options in Cedar Rapids, I’m looking forward to trying Wasabi next. Back to Oyama, they have good atmosphere as well, a japanese theme carried through from décor to the wait staffs uniforms, which are inspired by traditional clothing. The service was courteous and attentive, they were there when you needed them, but not hovering around. I definitely recommend checking it out if you are in the CR area.

I went to this restaurant for a birthday celebration. They cooked the food in front of us. We had chicken and seafood stir fries and rice. The food was delicious. The whole experience was very entertaining. We laughed as the cook tried to toss food into our mouths . The kids had a blast. Also I liked how he juggled the knives and the fire show. All in all it was great food and entertainment. There were 9 of us and the bill came out to $ 130 which I thought was reasonable.

My husband and I love this place! It is our go-to for sushi in Cedar Rapids. The wait staff is friendly and knowledgeable. It’s obvious that it is a teamwork environment. We love the warm washcloths they bring to your table, and on Valentine’s Day, the ladies get a rose. I went when I was pregnant with my first child, and the server let me know what i could and could not have. Must try the crab rangoons, Iowa City Roll, and Eel roll!!!

I came here for dinner with 2 co-workers in a Wednesday night on a business trip. The restaurant side was not very busy and there was no one on the hibachi side but that didn’t stop my co-worker from wanting the hibachi experience and I’m glad he insisted. Our server was nice and accommodating and our chef was entertaining and funny. The food was marvelous, everything from the soup, salad, rice and meat. I had the steak and red snapper combo. There’s something about food straight off the grill into mouth within 5 secs that makes it all worth it. I didn’t think I was hungry but the food was so good I couldn’t stop eating. Let’s just say we all slept good on a full tummy that night. I will definitely be back when I’m back in cedar

I came here once and I fell in love with it. The food was fast(probably because there weren’t many people there at the time). My family and I ordered the sashimi and the fish was fresh and we just loved it! The service wasn’t terrible but it wasn’t that great, either. I would recommend this place and I would definitely go back!

I go there for one thing and that’s the raw oysters! Very fresh with a great seasoning. Best in town!

Visiting CR at Thanksgiving and this was surprisingly good. We were seated, waited on and served promptly with smiles. It was lunch so 3 of us had the lunch box special served with many choices of proteins, with miso soup, salad, California roll, gyoza and rice for under $ 10, which are served in these cute bento type of dishes. One person had sushi and other assorted items, and I tried a couple of pieces of sushi. It wasn’t the best I’ve ever had but not bad at all, and definitely fresh. The star was their tempura — so light and crispy! The lunch boxes were all flavorful and filling.

We ordered sushi delux and shogun social roll. The fish doesn’t taste fresh. The shrimp tempura is not crispy which basically ruined the entire toll. The only good part is that we ordered before hand so by the find we got there the food was ready.

Don’t waste your time going here, the sushi was bland and unsatisfying. I don’t mind paying top dollar for good sushi but thus isn’t the place. We recently relocated to Cedar Rapids from Southern California and we are used to the real thing. We had previously tried the Sushi House on Edgewood and we were VERY satisfied. The prices are better there also. At the sushi house they didn’t have green mussels so we thought we would try this place we’re not going back.

Who says you can’t have great sushi in Iowa? My boyfriend and I checked out this place for lunch on a whim while driving through town. I’m a big fan of sushi and we were not disappointed! I wouldn’t say it goes above and beyond the call of duty, but needless to say our meal was DELICIOUS. The specialty rolls are to die for — I especially loved the Sexy Lady Roll.(I think that was the name? It was pink and had cream cheese in it… yum.)

Lunch special is a good deal and hardly crowded. Decent hibachi, not as pricey as Osaka hibachi. Waiters were very attentive and sushi didn’t have too much rice which is what a lot of other sushi places do to minimalize the fillings in rolls. Good ambience and close to the movies!

Just had an excellent meal here. Shared a variety of delicious appetizers and sushi. Service was great and entire staff made us feel welcome. We’re from out of town, otherwise this would be a frequent, favorite stop.

What an amazing show. I have not seen a Hibachi/Teppanyaki table chef put on a great show like that in a long time. The food was cooked to perfection as well. Each one of us chose something different and all enjoyed their meal. The support staff was professional, courteous, and very happy. I wish we had an Oyama at home.

We came here after getting a $ 20 for $ 10 deal here on Unilocal. When we came in we got seated right away but our waiter took a while to come. After that he took our drink orders but failed to bring water, which was odd. He brought our delicious drinks later with the water and took our orders. I don’t like fish so this is a weird sushi review. Whenever I go to sushi places I ask for the vegetarian sushi and normally I love it! However, the Oyama sushi was the first one I rejected in my life. I ordered the tofu and mushroom sushi. The tofu was ok but the mushroom… gosh. I struggled to eat one. It was horrendous. I complained to the waiter and he explained that shitake mushroom tastes different from American mushroom and blah, blah, blah(obviously I knew that but it doesn’t change the fact that the sushi was bad) but he was nice enough to not charge me for the mushroom sushi. A+ for customer service! Overall I did not like my sushi. My boyfriend said he liked his but he will eat pretty much anything you put in front of him :-D I am giving it 3 stars for the customer service only. I don’t think I will be back.

Been going here for years and the quality is starting to slip. The last several times the rolls have been poorly made and the fish did not taste very fresh. Another problem I have is the use of white fish or white tuna in the rolls. I asked the waiter this last time what the white fish was and he had no clue. Also asked what is he super white tuna and got back only that it was the white part of the tuna. First off the only white tuna is Alabacore and if you are serving it please use that in the description. Many sushi places us Escolar but call it super white tuna. It’s deceptive to the consumer. Will be heading to Sushiya in North Liberty from now on. #goingdownhill

I took my daughter here for her birthday and we both loved it. It was recommended to me by a friend and she was right. The food was very good and the Sushi was very fresh. The staff was very attentive and didn’t mind coming back several times while we made up our minds and answered all our questions with pleasure. They had the restaurant sing my daughter«Happy Birthday» accompanied by a gong while my daughter wore a red paper chef hat. Very fun, indeed! We will go back to sit grill-side next time. That looked and sounded like fun!

When I’m in CR for business, Oyama is on my short-list of places to eat. The sushi is great, and the sushi chefs are really friendly. If you want to try something new, talk to them and they’ll have some great recommendations. The service is hit-or-miss… but good overall.

We just moved to Cedar Rapids from California today and face a very cold snowy day so we decided to drive out in the snow for hot soup. Being Asian I decided to go to place with Udon. We were greeted and sat right away. Waitress greeted us at table with hot towels but it end there. She didn’t return to take order. I have to waved down one of the waiter and asked if I can order. He apologized and took my order. The table around us sat down after us got their food and service. I am not sure what we didn’t wrong. I am not quite sure how to think of my first impression of Cedar Rapids and it’s customer service skills. I came here with the raving review in Unilocal and expect a warm welcome and hospitality especially in a Japanese restaurant. I guess I am expecting too much from Cedar Rapids coming from L.A. Return for dinner tonight as husband requested. Got a much better service this time. Food is fair. Salmon is somewhat fresh, hamachi isn’t. Husband likes his meal, steak teriyaki.
