This place was better than expected. With so many Chinese restaurants in the area only a few stand out and I think this place joins the«few». I ordered the sesame chicken, and the orange chicken for the wife as usual. The batter is very crispy just how I like it! We were served quickly and the sauces were very flavorful. The one thing I would like to see however, is larger water glasses! I was in constant need of water to wash down the thick tangy sauce this place produces lol. I will return. I feel this place is a great value for the portions you get. Great place for lunch as well.

Black pepper chicken is life changing. I have seriously ordered it 3 times in one week before. Somehow they caramelize the chicken, so its like honey glazed and slightly crispy without being syrupy like sesame chicken. So amazing and addictive!

Best service I’ve experienced in a long time. The girl that greeted me approached me all night with bright smiles. I went there at the end of a long day with a craving for another episode of The Good Wife; a tall thin guy who could barely speak English went to the back office somewhere to find me their WiFi password. They serve soda in paper Coke cups that could easily be construed as one-time fills, yet the super-smiley waitress filled it three times over the hour I sat there. I don’t eat a lot of Chinese food and only tend to order the basics — beef and broccoli with chicken fried rice and a crab rangoon. I think I prefer the beef in this dish to be seasoned a little bit differently, but I don’t think that means it was anything less than authentic and well-prepared. Nor do I care. The service was so impressive that I would go back and try another dish just to find something I like more and have an excuse to keep coming back.

I’ve eaten here multiple times. The food is typically decent. The crab rangoons are fantastic. Spring Rolls are lightly deep fried but still yummy. Sesame Chicken is over breaded without much flavor(but lots of sesame seeds). There’s lots of great veggies in the Lo-Mein but it’s super oily. The beef is typically a little tough, but the broccoli is always good. it serves the Chinese food craving! The reason this is only getting three stars is due to my experience tonight. I placed an delivery order online tonight at 5:30. Received my confirmation e-mail that they would contact me if there was an issue with my order. I’ve ordered online before with no issues. However an hour later, my order was still not here. I thought that was a little odd so I called to check. I had to call three times before someone would answer. When they did, I confirmed my name and my order number and was told my order was out for delivery and would be there in about five minutes. 30 minutes after that, i called again. I was told that I was previously mistaken for someone else and that my order didn’t work. I asked what that meant and why they didn’t try to contact me to correct it. The man told me that I had to have a minimum of $ 15 for delivery. I informed him my order was $ 20.75 before tax, delivery or tip and certainly met the requirements. He then told me that sometimes they have issues with their online site and that he’d take my order over the phone. I gave him my order and rather than give me any sort of discount for the hour and a half wait that I’d already had, he told me it would be an additional 30 minutes and that it would be the same total as I had online. If I had any food in my house, I would have just told him forget it! My order came 30 minutes later. The driver was polite and apologetic. I’ll most likely order from here again(but not online!). Just disappointed in the customer service.

Food has more traditional Chinese flavors. This may seem like everything is bland when compared to overly salty or sweet Americanized Chinese food. However, if you give up your stigmas, you’ll find that it is actually very savory. Try the General Tao’s chicken, it’s crispy and delicious!

A lot cleaner than the Chinese take out selection here, there is no chow fun as described in their menu. Reasonably priced, however China inn has better egg rolls and their portions seem to be smaller than the other Chinese places here. Inside was clean and the waitress was very nice and friendly, but the food itself was not the best. Not your typical fried rice that you expect at Chinese places, seems more home made…

Great lunch buffet. Not a huge selection but enough to make it worth your while. Great service even though they do most of their business as take out.

I was with my wife for dinner. If you’ve ever eaten Chinese in San Francisco, then you know what real Chinese is supposed to be. This is not. We ordered spring rolls, hot and sour soup, fried dumplings, a curry beef, and seafood pan with noodles. We ate in. They never brought plates unless we asked. OK it was served with Iowa flavor,(bland and blander). The spring roll was not expected to be deep fat fried, it was. They served the 2 of them with a large bowl of sweet&sour sauce. Way more then needed. But only one plate that the spring roll came on, so asked for a extra plate. The hot and sour soup was not sour, nor hot. Just a single bowl, that we shared spoon time in. The 10 fried dumplings, what, why would you deep fat fry them, they should have been pan fried. Totally ruins the texture of the dumpling. Curry beef, was salty, tasted very much like Indian curry, but bland/week on spice. No Capsaicin heat of any kind. The seafood pan, was served on chowmein noodles, we expected rice noodles, not fried noodles. The crab was all imitation., very small scallops, a few shrimp. OK, but no real spice. It was not indicated as a hot spice dish. But the noodles was out of place. What I did like, was all the meats and vegetables, were cut the correct size for eating with chop sticks. This is the first time I’ve seen this done correctly in Cedar Rapids in 31 year of living here. But why do we keep asking for plates. We ended up using the large plate the dumplings came on, as one of plates to share the 2 dishes we ordered. Oh, we also had hot tea. It was served in Styrofoam cups. As other reviewers indicate, they really are set up for take out. But if you’ve never had better then you won’t know how bad it is.

I really wanted to like it, but just couldn’t. The food was fine and the service was good, but strange. My Kung Pao Chicken wasn’t spicy at all and had too much salt or MSG. The kicker was the rubber band in the food. Yes, an inch long chunk of rubber band in the vegetable noodles. Ick. My wife chewed it, I stretched it, it snapped back. It was a rubber band.

I’m not a buffet regular but this little restaurant stands out for tasty recipes and making food in smaller batches so food is constantly refreshed. It seems to be family owned and are friendly with their customers many whom are regulars. You can order off the menu or get the buffet.

Having moved from New York City, to northern New Jersey, and finally to Cedar Rapids; it sometimes feels like I’m on a quest to find ever-worsening Chinese food. In a place where you can be told, in absolute sincerity, that the best Chinese food comes from the grocery store; I am happy to have finally discovered Silver Dragon. I have had their food twice so far. The first time, I ordered take-out: sesame chicken and beef fried rice. The second time, I had their lunch buffet. The first thing that struck me about my take-out experience was the fact that they have a completely open kitchen. In my experience, open kitchens are not common in Chinese restaurants. If you don’t know why that’s important, watch any TV show that goes behind the scenes at any restaurant. It’s also nice to see the chef preparing the food. The first time I came, I arrived to see the chef butchering what I think was half of a side of pork. On my second trip, I saw him chopping fresh whole broccoli. So, it’s safe to assume that Silver Dragon isn’t serving processed food from the big box store. While I would recommend their take-out to anyone who likes Chinese, their lunch buffet is really going to depend on one specific preference. If you prefer a buffet with a ton of well-stocked options, this probably won’t be your favorite. They have a smaller number of options than what I’m used to, and they don’t put a huge quantity of anything out. They constantly replenish each dish, though. This ensured that every option was either stocked, or seconds away from being restocked; and everything was extremely fresh. From the buffet, I would definitely recommend the lo mein, and the General Tso’s chicken. Everything that I tried was good, though.

A good new Chinese restaurant in the area! We went there on a Thursday evening for supper. The food was delicious! The vegetables and sauces were done correctly, the tofu and chicken was fried well, and the portions were generous. All of us ended up taking left-overs home. The waitress was attentive and the food was served promptly. The prices were very reasonable; a supper for four was $ 36. This place seems to specialize in take out. There are 12 tables, each with four chairs, although I’d bet they’d be able to put tables together if you had a larger party. The only reason I’m giving this 4 stars is because of the ambiance and layout; the food deserves 5 stars. We’ll be eating here again soon.

So friendly! Our takeout order(that we phoned in) was running late. They offered me a table while I waited and brought me ice water. Everything is clean and shiny. And the food was delicious. We’ll be back.

Excellent food hidden in a former Blimpie Subs building! I came into Silver Dragon with no expectations since it’s pretty new, and I must say I was impressed. I sampled a variety of dishes and here are the highlights: the spicy tofu, the Red Snapper and the beef with bitter melon. These are all pretty authentic Chinese dishes and they were cooked really well. The service was good and friendly. Only caviat is limited seating, but they do carry out so it’s all good. Definitely would recommend!

This is a great little hidden gem! The service is excellent. The place is clean, the food is fresh and tastes wonderful. The seating is limited for groups over 4, but that is probably the only drawback to mention. It is very affordable as well! Definitely worth checking out, as they exceeded my expectations!

New favorite Chinese in CR! Ordered take out after a long Saturday when I needed a break from cooking. Service was quick and friendly. Food was hot when I got home, and they had included a fork, napkin, and all the sauces without my having to ask for something. I’m a vegan and am super picky about tofu texture. This tofu was PERFECT. The garlic sauce was garlicky, sweet, spicy and delicious! I asked for extra vegetables and was not charged additionally for it. The entrée and rice cost me $ 8 and will easily serve as three full meals. I am so glad that Silver Dragon is open and that it is so close to where I live! We will definitely be going here often!

This place is a great and wonderful place to eat. The staff were very nice and friendly. The place was clean and sparkling. The rangoons were nice and crispy on the outside and delicious and creamy on the inside. My husbands chicken wings came out cooked perfectly golden brown and everything else was tasty and fresh. I really enjoyed eating here and will certainly be coming back.

I have no idea what the other reviewers are talking about. This is easily the best chinese food in Cedar Rapids. The prices are low and the food is great. For 7 bucks you can get a huge meal with rice and a couple crab ragoons. Their crab ragoons are easily the best I’ve had and actually have crab meat still. All the food is cooked fresh and fast when you order it. Sorry for the length but I love this place and people I know that have eaten there love it also.

Best Fried Rice In Cedar Rapids! This is a family run Chinese restaurant that opened in the former First avenue Blimpie building in January of 2015. The menu is the same as your typical Chinese takeout. They have a lunch buffet from 10:30AM to 2:30PM every day. Have not had a bad meal here yet. If you like reasonably priced Chinese food this is the place to go.
