Not closed. Today, I was shopping at the mall with my mom and had to hit up the food court for lunch. Of course, we walked around the food court to grub on all the free samples — Kyochon, Steak Escape, Ruby Thai(not to mention Yogurtland, Auntie Em’s — but I digress). We settled upon Great Khan’s because we’ve never ordered from there before. Let me tell you, you should’ve seen my food bowl. It was like the leaning tower of Pisa as I stuffed it to the gills with frozen turkey, onions, green onions, carrots, mushrooms, tomatoes, garlic, various sauces and anything else I can cram into it. Slices were flopping all over as I tried to bury more & more items into my bowl. The cook took the bowl from me and then placed it on top of chow mein, to make it even bigger! After that, cooking took a few minutes. It was quite a bit of food, needless to say. We found it very tasty & we lovingly finished the whole container, while cooling off in the mall. It was great. I will dine hear again sooner than later. Highly recommend! NOMNOMOMNOM

Make it your way Mongolian food, what’s not to love? Unlike the other Asian food places in the food court, for $ 7 you get a bowl and can choose any type of meat you want(beef, pork, turkey, chicken) any any combo of vegetables your heart could desire. There’s definitely an art to arranging the ingredients in your bowl and smooshing them down to get the most out of your bowlful. I have yet to master that art and by the time I get to the end everything I put in my bowl ends of falling on my tray lol. Once you get to the end of the line they have a handful of sauces with no description of what they are. Every time I’ve visited the person who serves the sauces and noodles doesn’t speak much English, so despite always asking for mild/not spicy sauce I always get something different put on my bowl. Sometimes my food is too mild and other times it’s very spicy. That’s my biggest gripe with this place. After the sauce they place a humongous pile of noodles on your bowl. Your food is then cooked on this big hot round griddle, stir fry style with what looks like swords. What I love is that they cook the food right in front of you so no worries about guy scratching himself and then handling your food. It will be nice and fresh even if you come right before closing time. They then pile your food into one of those big Styrofoam take-out containers, meaning you have lots of food for leftovers or to share with your sweetie. Save the extra dollars and pass on the combo, you’ll be too full to even bother to eat it.

Whenever I go to Cerritos Mall, it’s not even a question that Great Khans is a destination. I sometimes go to the Mall, just to get Great Khans. Yes, I crave it THAT much sometimes. The meat isn’t always too fresh but I’ve never had a problem with it(probably because they cook it in so much sauce) and they do charge a dumb convenience fee for any card charges. Definitely one of my favorite places to go for cheap quick Mongolian BBQ. The one in Brea Mall is also really good. JJK

i used to love this place when i worked at the mall as a teenager. recently i was back in cerritos and decided to eat here. unfortunately i never carry cash, it’s a bad habit but i put everything on credit or debit, it’s just easier for me. i hate merchants that charge you a «convenience» fee, or as i fondly refer to it, an INconvenient fee. i think that if you own a business and you choose to accept credit cards, it is your responsibility to pay for the business expense of accepting cards and not pass it on to the customer. it seems to be asian places that enforce this and i am not afraid to leave if this fee is charged. look, i’ve worked in retail and credit long enough to know how much things REALLY cost, they aren’t losing a cent. anywho, i was stoked to get some mongolian bbq. i order my food and hand the guy my credit card. now, there is nowhere on the register that says there is a .50 fee to use cards and he didn’t tell me. i only noticed when i was signing the receipt that it was .50 more. i know what you’re thinking, i can’t believe this cheapskate is freaking out about 50 measly cents. it’s the principle, it’s tacky to pass along a cost of business to your clientele! so i tell the guy to cancel my order, i don’t want to pay that charge and he never told me about it nor was it listed anywhere. $ 7.75 for one bowl is pricey when i can go to pan asia in newport and get a MUCH better bbq for less. i will never go here again because of the charge, well unless they stop charging to use cards. i walked across to tokyo grill, got a bento box and enjoyed a delicious lunch with no extra charges. the food is pretty good but i think i’ll stick with tokyo grill from now on.

This place is a pretty good place to eat at the Cerritos Mall when u get hungry while shopping. so the concept of this place is that u first play for your meal. i got lucky today because i came like 30 minutes after the lunch special ended(11am-2pm) and yet they still gave me lunch special price. u pay like $ 8 and they give u this bowl(during lunch special, they also give u a 16 oz drink). u go down this line and u stuff that bowl with watever u want. beef, pork, chicken, and all sorts of vegetable like mushroom, onions, bell pepper, cilantro, cabbage, etc. at the end of the line, they take your bowl, put these sauces on it and give u a grip of noodles. then they take all your stuff and fry it over this huge circular pan basically and then they give u the food back in one of those rectangular to go boxes. for the price, u get a good amount of food for sure. essentially, this place is like a pan fried noodles with your meat and vegetables but what i really like about this place is the food is hot and fresh because they basically cook it rite in front of you. if ure at the cerritos mall, i def. suggest u try mongolian bbq :)

Being a snob of Mongolian BBQ I was not impressed with this«restaurant» First, I don’t care for the noodles, to me it seems like a lot of filler to conceal the fact that there is only a little meat. And BBQ’d noodles? Who’da thought. Next at all of the MBBQs I have ever been to I can make my selections and put in how much meat and veggies I want, not ask someone behind the window, can I please have more carrots or whatever… I also like to go overboard on the sauces… I tend not to add OIL but lots of the other sauces when I do my mix. Not really an option here, since it isn’t a do it yourself kind of place. I guess in a pinch it would qualify for MBBQ, but barely.

This is it! This is the one! This is the restaurant that makes the entire food court smell like greasy Asian food! This is obvious because they cook the food right there over a hot stove behind glass. Despite the industrial fan going off to try and redirect the smoke, the scent still wafts into the rest of the Los Cerritos food court and will stick to your clothes. This is also the reason why I sit at the farthest end of the food court near the main corridor. By sitting at the far end, you minimize the extent to which you smell like a Chinese restaurant. My friends have all learned this technique and now whenever we eat here, it’s a given where to sit in the dining hall. I recommend hightailing it over to Nordstrom and spraying on some perfume or cologne to help cover up the scent once you finish eating. Honestly, even though this fast food restaurant has been here for years now, I’ve only eaten here a handful of times. The food’s okay and will fill you up, which is pretty much what you go for when you come to a budget food court, right? It’s an all-you-can-eat style Mongolian restaurant. Actually, it’s an all-you-can-stuff-onto-your bowl Mongolian style restaurant. On an interesting side note: I actually almost bought the owner’s car from him once. He drove a brown Volvo and even let me test drive it around the mall area when I visited one day. I put money down to have him hold on to it, but at the last minute walked away from it. I had the opposite of buyer’s remorse/regret. That was back when I was in high school and I was looking to buy a car for use to and from school to possibly replace the Phoenix Wonderwagon(see my Norwalk Costco review for more).

About 15 years ago, there was a nice Mongolian place that opened up in Hawaiian Garden(across the street from an all-you-can-eat KFC). It was unique and one of kind place where they have a big open grill in the restaurant. You can go pick out the meat that you want(chicken, pork, turkey, and beef). Then you can add in some of the fresh vegetables and then you can add in your own spices(garlic, MSG, or even some unique hot sauce). After you decided on how you want to customized this contraption, you get to decide on either noodles or rice as the compliment to your meat and vegetables. You would bring it up to one of the cook in front of that big grill and watch him performed their magic. They would walk around the grill in circle(usually the grill is a big round flat stainless grill) and they would flapped the meat and veggie up and down. Then you watched them splash some oil and water to your cooked meal. These cook would scooped up the meat and veggies from the grill in a supersonic motion and delivered it on to your plate. Just watching them grilled that thing, it makes me wondered why it would cost $ 10 back then and ponders if there were some special sauce to make this dish into a culinary delight. For $ 10 in the mid 90’s was harsh, so the business owner(s) decided to make it an all-you-can eat Mongolian place, but they still have a hard time maintaining that place. It was gone before the start of the new millennium. Now you get to see these kind of Mongolian grill places popping up at most major malls or shopping center popping up. All you really need is a little station of meat and vegetables and bringing it up to the cook in that big round grill. The only real difference is that price was a little bit more reasonable at around $ 7. There is always a line at lunch or dinner here at this mall or at Brea mall, so it tells me that Mongolian BBQ is catching on. As in for this place, it works only because the cooking is fast and mostly no fuss about when you stand in line to get your food on to a bowl and bring it up for the grill. It should be an assembly line like clockwork unless some lady get overzealous at stuffing the meats on to that bowl. It’s just too bad that the original owner in Hawaiian Gardens didn’t set the right price because it would have work wonders for them. — — – BTW, since it’s in a food court at a mall, you might have to go find tables on the other side of the food court since all the families are sitting in front of this place because this place is next door to a Micky D’s.
