Just had the worst steak ever. Paid $ 55 and I couldn’t even cut into it. Nice server which is why I gave it 2 stars.

Stopped for lunch and seated in the charming garden area. Took advantage of the specials which allows you to choose two halves. I chose the chicken salad sandwich and the Gables salad. The chicken had just the right amount of mayo with sweet red grapes. The salad contained red leaf lettuce, blue cheese crumbles, sliced pears & warm toasted walnuts with just a touch of dressing. The other diner chose the mushroom broth soup along with her chicken salad. The soup wS a disappointment. We finished the meal with a creamy cheesecake with a lemon sauce. All in all, never been disappointed here.

Nice place, service by Philip was excellent. Food and drinks were good, but slow in arriving. They did have a private party going on, which probably contributed to it. Dined outside on terrace which was covered. Would return.

I recently took my boyfriend here for his birthday and we had a wonderful experience. To start, they had complimentary valet parking which was very convenient as a wedding was going on so it avoided any potential parking disasters. We had made reservations and were seated immediately. Our waitress was very friendly and attentive. We started off with fried green tomatoes and a cheese board. The cheese board was the highlight of my night. It had 4 different cheeses with a variety of jams, fruit, olives and bread. No matter what pairing I tried, it was amazing. The fried green tomatoes were cooked to perfection and had whipped goat cheese on top which cut nicely though the acidity of the tomatoes. For our entrees I got the Frenched Chicken and my boyfriend got a dry aged NY strip with chorizo red eye gravy. The chicken had a nice crispy skin and was served with brussel sprouts and mashed potatoes. Can’t go wrong with that combo. I tried the steak and it was cooked just how my boyfriend likes it and the gravy was delicious. By this point we were completely stuffed but you can’t have a birthday dinner without dessert! We both love pecan pie so we ordered that to share. It was the perfect size for two overly stuffed people and the taste was incredible. It had a bourbon caramel sauce and the vanilla ice cream it was served with was the perfect balance. We will definitely be back again. The food was amazing, the prices were fair, and the service was excellent. You would never have known a wedding was going on the entire time we were there. If you are looking for a nice evening with great food– definitely check this place out!

Ok s second visit, this time for dinner. Service was great food was awesome! Little pricey for the portions, but all around a damm good choice! Kinda noisy, but we did sit in the bar area and that may be why. Third visit Gretchen rocks! Awesome server! Ok about the apps, there HUGE! Small cheese plate would feed a family of 5! It’s awesome so we’re the balsa ice Brussels sprouts! Wine list is dam good! Entrees we great!

Decided to celebrate Easter at the Gables due to its convenient location for family members driving in from other states. Positives — complimentary valet parking — super friendly greeters — really nice staff Negatives — chairs were extremely uncomfortable — banquet space was chilly due to vaulted ceiling — food was average overall with only an occasional highlight All things considered, we won’t be back.

Went with another couple. We all enjoyed all aspects of the meal. The highlights were the kale salad, double cut pork chop and scallops. Great atmosphere in this old style building. We were well attended by our waiter Michael along with his recommendations. Anne the owner was going old school by walking around«touching» every table and talking to all. We had a great conversation with her as she was friendly, warm and welcoming. On the way out we ran into her again and upon our request she was kind enough to show us the upstairs banquet room for weddings etc. It did not appear as a mere«banquet room» but was elegantly decorated with all the necessary items for a great time — bar, DJ booth and access to outside area for a pre meal cocktail party. We will be returning soon !

We had our first date night with another couple in a while and they were looking for a place that was somewhat quiet but had great food and service. The Gables did not disappoint as our friends who are from out of the area loved every aspect of this restaurant. We start off with the brussels sprouts and the crab dip which was amazing. I ordered the house Manhattan which was a little sweet but a nice variation compared to what I normally drink. For dinner we had the filet tips, filet mignon, shrimp and grits, and the short ribs. The portion sizes were great the food was outstanding. The patrons that were there range from young to old, on a date or in a group with the family but the ambience was perfect and the service was some of the best that we’ve had thus far. I would recommend this to anyone again and they also have a Nice lunch menu.

This place was recommended by a PA local so we checked in. Nice staff, busy place. I started with the beer braised muscles. They were very good and spicy. However, the beer and garlic cut the spicy aspect. The braused short ribs were cooked really well but lacked simple flavors such as salt and pepper. The sweet potato, fava bean and potato hash were burnt. I passed on a sweet. Overall, just ok.

Been here before but tonight it was a real disappointment. Being Valentines Day, I thought the service would be a little better. A plus was that we got there early & was seated quick. We just waited a longer time to order. We were not even finished our apps before our main dish came out. I didn’t want t wait to long to eat it bc it was getting cold as I was sitting near the door so every time the door opened a gust of cold air came through. Overall food was good, service not so much. Felt a bit rush on a supposedly romantic night.

2÷13÷2016 Dinner out with my Valentine. Picked a long-time favorite restaurant where we’ve enjoyed many good to excellent dinners and brunches. Tonight, The Gables failed. Not stumbled or succumbed to the predictable press of being heavily booked with Valentine’s Day reservations. FAILED. Flat out, no excuses, failed — embarrassingly. 7:45 reservation. Arrived on time. «We’re running a bit late tonight.» Understood — Valentine’s Day. Drinks at the bar — table at 8:15+. «Upstairs — you’ll be happy — it’s warmer up there(The Gables is in a restored 19th century barn)» — it was. The last good news of the night. Caesar salad — less flavor and character than the salad bar at our supermarket — poor!, especially for $ 10. Special menu item for the night — lobster gnocchi for Carol«please make sure to check on the ingredients because of my onion allergy.» EXTRA long wait for entrees — 30+ minutes after the salads are cleared. The gnocchi is polluted with onions — I had to leave the table to find the waiter to get his attention. Dish removed — long wait — replaced«another waiter took your special dish by mistake.» OK, except that the replacement had ZERO lobster and doughy gnocchi. Long time before the waiter rechecked on the replacement — no lobster. Eventually returned with a ramekin of lobster meat and assurance«there’s no charge for your entrée.» No manager appeared, the server raced away, clearly handling too many tables(or incapable). I ordered a glass of their most expensive Chardonnay(Trefethen) — it arrived in a generic, house wine sized glass, filled to the top. No need for a Reidel glass, but something with some size and space would have been fitting for an expensive pour that I know well and would have enjoyed more with a bit of oxygen in the glass. My entrée — Buttermilk fried chicken with dirty mashed potatoes arrived in a huge heap — so much for presentation. Worse, the potatoes were room temperature, apparently scooped from the pre-made bin without checking the temperature. Taste was OK, but the not-warm platter cooled faster than I could eat it. Best guess is that the restaurant over-booked because of demand, opened the second floor, brought in their banquet/catering servers and made no adjustments in kitchen staffing. Every. Wheel. Came. Off. NOEXCUSES — this is your business — if you can’t handle the heat, etc., etc., etc. This has been a classy place for great meals since it opened. On a night that may be the one night of the year for some couples — The Gables did a face-plant. On a 10 point scale — they earned a 2. Nothing burnt or bloody, otherwise the score would have been 1, or zero.

Visited this restaurant for lunch on a Saturday en route to Longwood Gardens. Service was friendly but a bit slow given relatively few people in the dining room. Mushroom soup was very good, but the portobello mushroom wrap was more spinach than mushroom. The wine selection was very good and the pours generous.

I recently had a baby shower for my daughter at «The Gables at Chadds Ford», things could not have been lovelier! The services was incredible; they couldn’t do enough for us to make the day special. The food was very good and the place is lovely. After such a great experience, we went back for dinner, and I have to say the food is divine!!! The fried Green Tomato App is delicious! I would definitely recommend!

Tommy, the extremely gregarious bartender, was absolutely wonderful in recommending drinks as I am a beginner. My friend, on the other hand, knows her way around a bar. Thanks to Tommy, we were both highly pleased and had a great time at The Gables. We seriously cannot say enough about Tommy. He is a phenomenal personality as well as an excellent drink mixer. We will be back as long as Tommy is around. Go see this talented man for yourself!

Some of the best meals I have had enjoyed have been at the Gables. My parents have been going for ~10 years. Ownership has changed hands several times since then, but what has been consistent is a dedication towards trying to do the best thing for the customer. We have had meals come out totally wrong, but we have had some of the best sinners in years here. Give them a chance and help them build the next generation of the Gables. There are lots of restaurants around. None nearly as interesting or personal as the Gables. When I think of the holidays, as a son living far apart from family. The Gables is what I think of as good times with family.

Lovely meal, wonderful ambience, service needs work. Saturday night in July, place is not full, but had to wait 20 minutes at the table before I stood up to retrieve some wait staff. Food — calamari and Brussels sprout appetizers were very very good. Entres included blackened salmon, scallops, and shrimp and grits. All met with positive review Service — we waited 20 minutes before I got up to find some kind of available staff. And it’s not like it was busy, or understaffed. Just lame service. After dinner, the dessert menu(and there were some great items on the menu!) just sat in our laps until we finally got up to leave. Summary: great food, great ambience, expect cafeteria-style service(ie, none) The bottom line is that the food is commensurate with the price; the service is not.

I’m visiting from out of town for the 4th and was looking for a solid option for a large group with local specialities. Read about The Gables in Out & About magazine and decided to give it a try! Love the atmosphere – truly exceptional back patio area. Also, the buttermilk chicken is a MUST.

What a wonderful place! I came here a few weeks back right before heading to Longwood Gardens. I’m reviewing based only on the food and the ambiance– not the service(which was entirely too slow– perhaps our waiter was a bit distracted with other tables?). The food was spectacular. Our party of four started with the charred octopus which was served over salad, and the brussels sprouts. Both were nice portions and easy to share between the four of us. For my entrée, I got the scallops dish which was a special of the evening– it was incredible. Other members of the group got salmon and short ribs. I didn’t try the salmon but I got to taste the short ribs which were rich and filling. The portions were nicely sized and the ambiance of the restaurant can go either way. Totally romantic or a casual more upscale dinner. I liked that this place used fresh ingredients and I loved the rustic and sophisticated elements of the restaurant. Bonuses: nice wine list pianist at the front door not a bad seat in the house cozy atmosphere outdoor seating(not open when I went but attractive space) seasonal menu

After a fun afternoon of antique shopping my bestie and I stopped in here for lunch! The inside looks as it it belongs in Greenwhich Village in NYC! It is so cute! We decided to sit outside since it was so nice! Our server greeted us promptly and took our order. She also brought us fresh baked rolls and some sweet butter. For lunch I ordered a Waldorf Chicken Salad Sandwhich on a Croissant and a side salad. The sandwhich was amazing! There was so much chicken salad that I had to take some of it off. The side salad was all yummy! It had some zesty citrus dressing on it that paired nicely with the sandwhich. I would def. recomend this to people! The food was great and the service was too!
