The Igloo

I had the raspberry ice cream. It tasted like artificial raspberry flavoring. I really liked the texture of the ice cream, very creamy and delicious, but I wasn’t overwhelmed with the taste. My girlfriend had vanilla and that was a bit better.

Some of my earliest memories are of coming to the Igloo for custard. I’m happy to report that through ownership changes and all the years that the quality remains high and the prices remain low. Even though I live hundreds of miles away now, this place remains a touchstone of my youth and one which I never fail to revisit when I return home.

I stopped here on a Saturday afternoon. I am a big ice cream fan and when I saw this I made a U turn to stop in. It seemed some bikers were also fans. Igloo was featuring basic flavors: chocolate, vanilla, strawberry and PB. I only wanted a cone and I ordered peanut butter and chocolate — a small, and it was less than 3.00 — and they give you a lot. I am so surprised there are only a couple Unilocal reviews. Service was friendly, fast and efficient. The biker in front of me had a large peanut butter sundae. The ice cream was almost like custard; it was smooth, thick and extremely flavorful. Another reviewer said this is the best soft serve ever — I could agree with that, and now need to think of another excuse to get down to Chambersburg to try this again.

Easily the best ice cream I have ever had. The outside is a little scary, but the ice cream will make you want to lick your eyeballs out.
