Found this shop and so glad I did! Clean, very professional and friendly! A big shout out to Tommy Brantner who is not only an amazing artist, but extremely clean, professional, and funny too! He just finished my first tattoo and made the entire experience one that I will always remember. His line work is phenomenal! I have also had a piercing done here by him and I plan on having many more! This is my go to shop now and forever.

I love Modern Ink. I was recommitted here by a friend and will continue to come as long as I keep getting tattoos. The place is very clean and the staff is friendly. Not intimidating like some tattoo shops can be. I just recently had a large piece done on my back shoulder by Tom and he did amazing work. I emailed with him first about my ideas and immediately drew something up for me and didn’t hesitate to tweak it to my exact liking. It was my biggest tattoo yet, so the three hours it took laying there Tom was very friendly and talkative and kept me at ease the entire time. Im so happy with the results and cannot wait to schedule another session with Tom soon.

Ok so i went in there yesterday just to get a small amount of Kuro till my big bottle of liner came from my supplier. I ended up leaving with more shit lol… but the guy whom i think was the owners brother by something he said, a red haired guy was super helpful. Even as i sat there and hemmed and hawed about what i wanted and which extra machine and foot pedal was a good deal. He never seemed annoyed or hurried me and he even had a tattoo client waiting in chair cause they were about to start when i walked in. So i really really really like that, makes me want to spend more money here in future. Customer service seems like a completely dieing art form. Not here tho… and most tattoo shops and the very few who sell supplies are usually kinda dickish to be honest. And try to just sell u what that artist prefers not what might be good for u. But this place is way better. I ended up also buying an additional coil machine for my collection after we went thru what would be good for my style and weight preference. Overall very informative and patient. Also i got home and realized i had another foot pedal already even tho i bought this one and called to see if i could return it which he said would be fine since i hadn’t even opened it. Just to me the best hands down local supplier on the East side.

I’m pretty well inked, so I’ve been around a few tattoo shops. Modern Ink is definitely one of the best. Every single artist that works there is just that… an artist. I don’t think I’ve ever seen anything leave that wasn’t pretty fantastic. I go to Tom for my ink. He’s professional, courteous, and won’t BS you. He’ll tell you if he doesn’t think placement or art is a good idea. After all, the tattoo you get is his business card. He’s always happy to do custom work, and in fact prefers it. If you give him an idea of what you want, he’ll draw it up. He’s currently working on a steampunk spine piece for me, and is going so far as to research the biology of the spine so that his art matches the vertebrae. Tom also offers free touch-ups for life on his artwork. The shop and bathroom are always clean, which is a huge plus. I recommend these guys to anyone looking for a shop with artists who are talented, versatile and professional.

Had a chest piece drawn and tattooed by Tom. The transition from paper to ink was precise. If your looking to have a custom tattoo Tom at Modern Ink is a must. Shop is clean and the staff is professional. Look forward to scheduling another session soon.

I got my lip pierced at this location. I did a walk-in and within 10 minutes the piercer was ready to do my piercing. The guy who did my piercing was nice and he answered my questions with some confidence. The piercing went great– no pain and I was on my way within 15 minutes. Swelling is inevitable so the next two days I go about doing what I can to control the swelling. However, both ends started closing in with constant bleeding and I became worried. My entire inside lip became bruised fast and I began to feel severe pressure. I called the establishment to ask what was going on, if this was normal and what steps I should take. I talked to the guy who did the piecing. He sounded like he wasn’t sure himself and he had no confidence in his answers. He suggested I take the piercing out and let it close– that it is likely my body is rejecting it. He was of no help! So I wanted to get a second opinion before taking it out– I called HTC in Tempe on University. They suggested I come in immediately– sure enough the labret stud that was pierced at Modern was way too small for my lip size. Even without swelling I was told it was still a tight fit for my downsize. In addition to the labret stud closing in, my lip was suffering severe trauma, bleeding and bruising. I was also told never to take a piercing out on my own due to the risk of closing in an infection. I was stunned to learn what could have happened to me if I took the piercing out on my own! HTC took care of me– replaced the labret stud that was of sufficient length and instructed the healing process will be longer now due to Modern’s mistake. For my unfortunate situation, HTC gave me a discount on the piercing they had to correct. I don’t recommend this place and their $ 20 piercing special. Go to HTC in Tempe– they will take care of you. I got the impression this place doesn’t care about your safety and concerns. I learned if the price is too good– it probably is too good to be true.
