I have been here a few times since they opened about 5 months ago and I have seen a huge improvement in the service. I have ordered the enchilada and the combination fajitas a few times and it has been consistently good, a little salty but the meat was well marinated and tender. It is not a large space and can get busy and loud quickly, but they have outdoor seating during the warmer months which adds a good number of tables. The food is reasonably priced and the portions are generous. So overall I am a fan and in my opinion Los Toltecos is a great choice if you are craving the«cheese and sauce covering everything» style Mexican restaurant. For the more, fresh style Latin food, I would recommend T’kila(more upscale bar and dining) up the road in Stone Ridge or El Fresco(casual eat in) in Chantilly.

it’s not the best Mexican cuisine but it will do for this area. The rice is sometimes over-cooked or under-cooked. This time, it was under-cooked. However enchilada was great including the sauce. I couldn’t tell if the enchiladas were hand-made fresh or refrigerated & pre-made but it was average compared to the most of the reviews. I still go there bi-weekly.

Food is pretty tasty & drinks fairly strong, but it’s a bit pricey for Mexican food. Little too greasy, too. The mariachi band was super loud, but this place could make for a fun time. Will need to try again to ensure consistency for portions and quality of food since this is a new location. You know what I’m talking about… as time goes by soon after opening, portions shrink & prices go up. Then the place no longer holds value, and you need to find a new local fav. Hoping this doesn’t happen any time soon!

We have been two times and have been disappointed. The food seems pre-cooked and bland and the service is terrible. The biggest tragedy is the magaritas — terrible!

The only reason this place gets 2 stars is because the décor is nice and the service was good. However, if your goal is bland, flavorless«Mexican» food, then this is the place for you. Frankly, I’ve had more flavorful stuff from Taco Bell. Really a shame because I want new businesses to thrive, but unless they hire a chef that can cook, this joint won’t last for long. If you want some really good Latin food, then head down the road to T’Kila Latin Kitchen where you will not be disappointed.

Average Mexican food. Service was great, location was good but the chips taste like they come out of a bag and the fajitas were just bland. Missing something. Uncle Julios is still our favorite

Los Teltacos in Alexandria is my hands down, favorite Mexican restaurant in NOVA. Now living in South Riding, I was excited when Los Teltacos opened. However, it’s just not up to par. Although there’s plenty of margarita options, they’re not the best. I ordered combination steak and chicken fajitas and the steak was so burnt it was the color of the skillet it came out on. The service was mediocre with the waiter seeming annoyed when we weren’t ready to order when he first asked. It’s far better than T’kila, but leaves more to be desired…

We are here recently on a late evening Tuesday night. Overall, our first time here was simply was ‘okay’; nothing spectacular, but also nothing wrong with our food or dining experience. The Negative: I definitely consider myself a salsa snob and there’s, in my opinion, tasted awful; no flavor or heat. I asked for the tomatillo(spicer) and even that tasted awful and definitely not spicy. The Positives: The steak fajitas tasted good and arrived still sizzling, fresh. Our waitress was also very good. In general I think this place is worth a try if you’re in the area, but overall the food tasted like sub-par Mexican food that lacks the ‘wow factor’.

Have been to Los Toltecos about a dozen times already. While I really enjoyed the food at first I have to say I have lately been finding it a little rich for my tastes. Pretty heavy on the salt in pretty much everything. For some reason the density of the flavors actually makes it taste less fresh. I know it must seem odd that I’m saying it’s TOO flavorful, but I wonder if they are adding MSG or something. Maybe over marinating?

Awesome place, awesome food and service. No idea what kind of person that likes Mexican food would give this place anything less than 4-stars. Burrito Cancun is amazing. Shrimp Cocktail is great, too. Sooo glad this is close to home. And they have 12 different kinds of Margarita.

Coworkers and I came in for a quick lunch. an hour and a half later we were finally out of there. We were seated right away and given chips and salsa, ordered our drinks and waited 15 minutes for our server to come take our order. Usually a few extra minutes is no biggie but when you’re going into a holiday weekend, an extra 10 minutes is a lifetime! We ordered our meals and waited about 20 minutes– I had steak fajitas, coworker has veg fajitas, and another chicken… well only the veg fajitas came out sizzling and piping hot; the meat plates were barely smoking and had no sound– first warning. My steak was cooked so well done it was chewy, I wasn’t offered a cook temp– usually they’re cooked how they’re cooked and you eat it and like it. well here, I didn’t like it so much. Our server was a grumpy gills the whole time and we barely saw her, we had a food runner and a trainee bring the dishes out which could use some work. less touching of the drinks and silverware please and thank you! Overall it was a decent time, I would love to give it another shot in a few weeks and see if some kinks have been worked out. It is in a great location though, only 10 minutes from work and 20 from home, next time I want a marg!

Always great service and yummy food. Try the Mexican jambalaya– it’s amazing. Working through the menu and my favorites seem to be their seafood. The scallop and shrimp chimichangas were delicious.

Can I give ZEROSTARS??? 3rd time we visited. My wife was served a chicken QUESADILLA. Half of the chicken was raw. Not sure how that happened but the way the waiter and manager handled it was to deny it and say it was impossible. The thing is, we showed the waiter the chicken on the plate and he said it was not chicken. The manager was even more emphatic that it was not chicken. It was inside the quesadilla so what was it? Maybe you don’t want to know. 3rd time is a charm. Won’t be back. Is it worth your time and money to chance it and possibly even become sick.

Service was good but food was sub par. Stick with the queso and steak nachos appetizer. Their happy hour only consists of a select few $ 5 margaritas. No specials on beer or wine.

Food was ok. Service was terrible. We sat for at least 15 minutes before I got up to ask for a server. The food came out quick but wrong. The mistake was corrected right away which was good because the smoke alarm went off twice during that time. The mariachi band tried to mask it by playing EXTRA loud! Needless to say, we had to leave as our 14 month old started to meltdown from all the stimulation.

If I could give no stars I would! My co-worker and I headed here for lunch and I was so disappointed. I ordered the lunch make-your-own combo platter and chose a beef taco and a chicken chalupa. My co-worker got CARNEENCEBOLLADA(steak and onions). To start the service was slow. When they delivered our food, I asked for more salsa and a refill on my iced tea. I started with the chalupa, which was nice and crispy on the outside but the inner part of the tortilla was soggy. And then I found a bone in it. So I switched to my taco… I didn’t even know a taco could be made that bland! I really needed that salsa! When the waiter came by I grabbed him to remind him about the salsa and tea, I told him about the bone and he immediately scooped up my plate and left. He came back quickly with the salsa and tea. A few minutes later the manager came by to let me know she was removing my meal from the bill. About 10 minutes later, the waiter came by again to ask if I wanted to order something different!!! This whole time I was assuming they were remaking my food. I refused the offer(I wonder if they would have charged me for new food? I wonder if they thought they were doing something nice by removing a meal I didn’t eat from my bill?) and waited for my co-worker to finish her meal, which she really liked. Bottom line… I am glad the chips and salsa were tasty as it was all I got for lunch that day! .

Came here for dinner on a busy Saturday night. We had called to make a reservation so we were seated immediately. Our waitress was great. All of the food came out as ordered and our drinks and chips were refilled quickly. Everyone in our party loved the food, from the carne asada to the burrito supreme. The only warning is the guacamole is a smooth and simple version which was good but people’s tastes may vary.

I like the chips and salsa. I think it’s delicious. I had the shrimp Chimichanga which was tiny but it was the lunch size. I am going to give this place another try. Some improvements needed are service, because they are slow in taking orders but they are trying. Didn’t get refill on beverage. Very annoying.

I was seated promptly for a 1 o’clock lunch. Staff was friendly. Served chips and mild salsa(I prefer spicy salsa). Ordered the carne asada burrito which came covered in sour cream and lettuce with a side of rice which was tasty. Ordered the $ 10 jalapeño margarita which wasn’t spicy at all. I prefer the one at T’Kila in Stone Ridge which has noticeable kick. I could only finish a ¼ of the glass, it was so big. I wish there was a smaller, spicier version. Good first impression overall. I wish them success in this area.

While I am thrilled to have a new restaurant out in the ‘burbs, I was less than thrilled with my experience here. Understandably, Los Toltecos just opened and has the normal kinks to work out. I didn’t expect to walk in on their 5th day open and have a 5 star experience. I did expect that service and food would be better than it was. We decided to stop in about 1:15 on Sunday for a light snack and a margarita. The restaurant was full, but no one was waiting to be seated, there were a few empty tables and plenty of seats at the bar. My husband and I took two seats at the bar. We sat for quite some time(I am guessing 10 minutes) before the bartender greeted us. When he did, he asked if we were waiting for a table to which we replied that we wished to eat at the bar. He didn’t seem to pleased, but cheerfully took our order for two premium margaritas, a bowl of guacamole and the Nachos Carbon. I felt bad for the waitstaff — they were clearly working very hard to try and service the guests. No one was standing around, but service seemed disorganized. No one was staffing the bar so servers were making their own drinks. The bartender was responsible for several tables in the lounge so had a hard time serving anyone who decided to actually sit at the bar. It was just chaotic. The food was disappointing. I like chunky tableside guacamole. I like the ability to order it spicy. That is what I expected from a chain such as Los Toltecos. What I got was light green whipped fluff with little flavor and certainly no heat. I found the salsa bland and too thin. On the bright side, the chips were hot and fresh. The nachos initially looked good, but the middle of the plate was just a mess. Since we had never gotten any silverware and there was no one around to ask, we ended up digging in with our fingers. This was ok on the outer edges of the plate, but the center where the cheese, sour cream and guacamole had all pooled was impossible to eat. The steak on the nachos was tender, but just too salty. Needless to say, the sweet kittens up for adoption at the Pet Value found me irresistible due to the cheesy smell on my hands. I must have used half a pack of cocktail napkins trying to get my hands clean. On a positive note, they did a lovely job of remodeling the place. The décor is beautiful and fitting for a Mexican style restaurant. There are plenty of booths and tables where larger families/groups could gather. However, if you are looking for a quiet atmosphere, this is not the place. It’s quite loud in the restaurant. My last comment — I ordered the premium margarita. It was just ok. I prefer the homemade sour mix and these tasted like they were made with a mass produced sour mix. The tequila selection I thought was somewhat small for a Mexican restaurant — maybe 15 selections or so tops. I hope the restaurant is successful. We don’t have too much to choose from out in South Riding so Los Toltecos is a welcome addition. However, they are going to have to step up their game for me to return. I’ll probably give them another chance in a month or two.

Was there on their second day and I am certainly impressed. They are still working out the kinks that many new restaurants go through but they still get 5 stars for their food, décor and service. Sat at the bar as was immediately greeted and brought chips and salsa. Some of the best salsa I’ve ever had. Ordered a margarita and was in heaven! That’s why I went in the first place. We needed a place to get margaritas closer to home. Appetizer was Nachos al Carbon. One word; DELICIOUS!!! We ordered our food as take out and it sure does travel well! I ordered the combination plate; tamal, chicken flauta and cheese quesadilla. There was nothing left on my plate. We are for sure going back soon and bringing friends and family to enjoy as well.
