This is a good library but it is pretty small. It has lots of books and it has computers and all of the things you would need for a library. It doesn’t open till 3:30 on weekdays which could be inconvenient. It is also closed on Fridays. It is closer than the chapel hill public library. There might be some supply and demand issues with it being a school library as well. Over all it is a good library but it does not match up the the chapel hill library for many reasons, for example you can only check out a book for 2 weeks instead of 3 and other things like that.

It’s the little library«that could». Sure, it doesn’t have all the bells and whistles of a larger library but if you need something, it’s a quick in and out. It’s located in the McDougle Schools so the hours are such as not to overlap with school hours and there are books that can only be checked out by students; however, I have always been able to find what I’m looking for and my kids have been able too as well. They have a selection of audiobooks and video material which is nice to have access too even closer than a Red Box. If you live in the area, don’t let the fact that it is in the school throw you off. There are more kids running around at the main library than here. And if you have kids, you won’t find activities for preschool kids during the year but they do have some during the summer. I would much rather stop by here first than hunt and peck at the main branch. The librarians are very nice here.

The Carrboro Branch Library is located inside McDougle middle school. It looks and feels like a typical middle school library. While it is nice to have a public library branch in Carrboro, the library has a couple of drawbacks: 1. The library is only open for non-students outside of school hours: 3:30 pm — 8 pm weekdays(closed on Fridays), 10 – 2 Sat, 1 – 5 Sun. 2. DVDs can only be rented for 3 days(instead of 7 at Chapel Hill library) and books for 2 weeks(instead of 3 weeks). Not sure if they have online renewals. 3. You also need to be very aware that some books are McDougle books and some are the branch library books. Each book is marked which it is. With your Orange county library card, you can only have three McDougle school owned books checked out at a time. On the positive side, they do have an excellent selection of kids books, and seem to have a better selection of more current DVDs available, probably due to the shorter allowed check out times.
