My husband and I went in right before they closed on a Sunday night. The servers were great. By the time we got to the end of the line, they were technically closed. There was no more coffee, but Christopher made sure we received fresh, hot coffee.

Food is ok. Prices are reasonable. The people serving are very slow. Some of the food is not very good. C & H cafeteria is a lot better.

This place was horrible my chicken and dumplings were a cold and bland and when I asked for a soup spoon I was given a spoon with dried on food on it a nearby table also had problems with dirty utensils and send that back to the kitchen as well.

It’s all about nostalgia for me. I remember going to cafeterias in the mall… yes the mall… when I was much younger. If you’re expecting a millenial foodie experience don’t bother… it is not that kind of place. This is southern grandma food…70s comfort food… taken out of your memories and placed in front of you :-). Enjoy it for what it is and you’ll get good food at a reasonable price.

K&W Cafeteria serves small portions of bland food. Even the cheap price doesn’t rate this at more than one star. The worst part of our meals was the Mac & Cheese. It was more like Mac and a vaguely cheesy custard. Bleh.

Always a huge selection to choose from and for a low price. Every St Paddy’s day they have corned beef and cabbage which is yummy! The staff is friendly and refills drinks regularly, otherwise it’s a typical cafeteria line and you pay on the way out.

If your are iodine deficient and low on funds, this is the place for you! Salty salty, yummy yummy, and very very cheap. I like the turkey with stuffing and that weird, watery, chunky cranberry jelly. Mmmhmmm. This is what I imagine my grandma would make, if she white.

Yay, I love southern food. This is the first time I go to american buffet and it surprised me a little bit. The food cooked well, and they serve multiple vegetables. I ordered the salmon platter which is so much better than any salmon plattter i had before. The service also is great!

I understand the concept of quick, inexpensive, southern soul food, BUUUT the quality of the food is so lackluster.) : I’ve never had such bland, mushy mac & cheese before or chewy broccoli. However, I don’t doubt that the meat, fried or smothered in gravy, is done good ol’ soul food style. It’s like country cooking meets IKEA cafeteria.

Love this place! Service is great and there’s always a ton of good options to choose from. I am giving them a 5 star review because of the value. Were else can you go and get a full meal for under 10 bucks? That’s with dessert.

Nostalgia. If out-of-towners REALLY want to eat where the locals eat, this is the place. I grew up eating at the original K&W in downtown Raleigh in Cameron Village(personally my favorite) but the Chapel Hill K&W is probably a close tie in quality. REAL Southern food awaits with fried green tomatoes, Fried Chicken, collard greens, and an abundance of delicious pies(egg tart!, chess pie! lemon meringue! ooh yess.). I just have to say… so much better than Mama Dip’s and half the price too(and easy parking). The only drawback is the crowd — if you’re looking for hipster chic K&W is not that place. You will find mostly Senior citizens and the occasional pair of lost UNC students. But like I said, real Southern food awaits(and all in full view so you can pick and choose the quantity and quality of your food), don’t get lost on Franklin St!

Comfort food at comfort prices. On my most recent trip, I had the Seafood platter(whitefish, shrimp, large crab cake, fries, hushpuppies, and slaw for $ 7.99) along with a slice of German chocolate pie. And it was pretty darned tasty. Can’t go wrong with this Southern institution, unless you try to come after 11 am on Sunday – the place is packed then!

I love this place. Growing up in the area, Ive been coming to K&W literally for years, and it’s always awesome. mac+Cheese, Chicken fingers, and a slice of pie. for about $ 6 Not bad at all. And there’s always different kinds of foods to choose from, Ive had the catfish here too, and it was delicious. There aren’t many cafeteria style restaurants in NYC, so I look forward to coming back to K&W for some REAL southern food.

This place is my guilty pleasure. When I want great and well-priced eats that remind me of the stuff I used to have at my(awesome southern cook) grandmother’s house, this is the place I go. The variety is mind-blowing and I have yet to be disappointed. My last trip, I ate like a queen for less than $ 7!

Um, this is the most awesome place on earth. HUGE ass portions, with insanely cheap prices. For less than $ 19, I got… are you ready? — chicken and dumplings — creamed corn — yam casserole — Mac n cheese — corn bread — jalapeño corn bread — hush puppies — chicken livers — country style steak — sweet potato pie — chocolate cream pie I want to live here.

Wow. All the things you can think of that might clog your arteries in one cafeteria style line. There’s deep fried, there’s baked, there’s grilled, and there’s more deep fried. I loved it. I picked up a bunch of food and it was ~$ 15. I wasn’t a big fan of the biscuit or bread, but everything else was great. There’s a tons of seating. The staff is all really nice. You can keep going back, just collect your receipts. I ate: fried chicken fried okra fried whiting turnip something(looks like collard greens) crab cakes cheese bread corn bread biscuit salisbury steak with mashed potatoes deviled eggs I don’t really remember if I had anything else, but I think a list of 10 items is pretty good.

Take it for what it is: a la carte southern home cooking. It’s got a comfortable, if slightly conservative, atmosphere. Nice lighting and comfy seats, and courteous waiters that come by to fill up your sweet tea. Some details you may like: –They have real cutlery, dishware, Cloth napkins(!), and glasses, none of those plastic cups, forks or plates you would expect in this price range. –They have a cheap selection of drinks. Besides soda you can get sweet tea, unsweetened tea, or coffee, and the sweet tea can have refills. In general, just a great place to have a solid home-style meal in a laid back atmosphere. and for a good price!
