Mohawk Trail State Forest

A solid B+ camping destination. Bathrooms were clean. Site’s weren’t the most private but they weren’t stacked on top of each other. The sound of the river at night is relaxing. Close to all the action in Charlemont.

Camped here for 4 days mid week. It was pretty awesome.
I feel like somehow they could tell who the single people were versus the adults and set us in separate sections accordingly. Near the water, it seemed pretty chaotic and noisy, but in my upper level area, it was just us, and 2 other groups of adult campers.
I can see how this place might get crowded on the weekend, but for us it was very secluded. There were quite a few trails around that we got to explore as well. The nature trail is long, but not difficult in terms of climbing up and down. We also climbed Mt. Todd, which was a work out for me (I am out of shape) but really nice. There are a lot of bugs, so I recommend bug spray.
At the lower level of the campground there is a natural pool, which was made with rocks blocking off some of the river. It was a nice place to swim. Tons of tadpoles everywhere! But they were cute and they don’t bite.
The woman at the desk area told me the closest grocery store was 25 – 30 miles away, but we drove to North Adams (a beautiful drive!) and I clocked it in at 14 miles away. Totally doable if you need food or supplies.
I’d come back again for sure!

Mohawk Trail State Forest is a state park and campground. Its a nicely wooded and conviently located one at that. There’s a nice brook that runs along the campground area that adds a tranquil effect to being outdoors and drowns out the noise of other campers. We didn’t reserve a site through Reserve America so we got a site for $ 14 a night. Some sites were really nice and large while others were on rockier terrain. The facilities were pretty good and the place is really easy to find. Camp rangers were friendly and we had a great night here. There were a ton of mosquitoes around and so bring spray.
