Really bad service! Given all the issues with this development /neighborhood they should be ROCKSOLID in all respects! Had to ask for beer glasses with our Holy City and Westbrook cans. Had to ask for the status of our appetizer, chicarronnes. My wife’s Shrimp Veracruzana came out and ten minutes later we finally asked were my avocado salad was only to learn it wasn’t ordered. The food was pretty good, but given the location and the fact that there are better restaurants on the other side of Park Circle we won’t be back. At least until they get their crap in a sock!

I have been here a few times. It has always been good for the few things I have tried on their menu. I have been here for lunch and brunch. My most recent experience was with brunch. We were the only ones there in the main area. I think they were having a party in the side room so that may have influenced our service a little. We started with the 4 salsas and guacamole with chips appetizer. The guacamole is amazing! The one light orange dip is a little strange and we found it to be effervescent especially with the cocomojito. The waiter said it shouldn’t be like that but I am not sure what is in it but it may be old? We had five of us and ate the chips fairly quickly because we were hungry and couldn’t find anyone to help us get more. We finally were able to get more chips when our waiter finally showed. Mind you there was still no one else there. We finally got our food after 30 minutes, at which a few people had walked in. I had the brisket hash that was good but could have used more flavor and maybe some salt. The gravy didn’t have much flavor to it and could have been better. The brisket was soft but there were a lot of fatty pieces that I am sure could have been pulled out while they were shredding it. I really liked my friends avocado chicken Caesar salad. It was very flavorful and had a great crisp fresh taste. The chicken looked plain and I didn’t want to try it. The chicken and churros were good! The churros were nice and hot. But the chicken could have been hotter and cooked a little longer to get a crisp on the outside. The cocojito drink was really good! I feel like for the lack of actual customers and the five servers I had seen there, the food should have been quick and hot. We do like it here so we will probably come back to try some different things.

Came here for lunch and enjoyed it. I had the Basico bowl and subbed meat for a runny egg to make it vegetarian and they were really cool about it and didn’t charge me extra for the substitution. The bowl itself was tasty, though a bit under seasoned. I think they could easily create some unique and exciting flavors with a bit of spice. The jalapeños were also pickled(looked like from a jar) which is not ideal. The chips were REALLY good, and the guac was tasty. Everyone I was with enjoyed their lunch, though there was a resounding agreement that the hot chicken tacos were not at all spicy. Someone in another review said the black bean burger was terrible and the bun was gross. My coworker ordered it and it looked pretty awesome to me. He ate every bite too. They no longer have house made horchata, FYI. So, all this being said, ultimately it wouldn’t be my top choice. It’s about $ 2 over priced for everything. Plus, I enjoy the more creative Mexican flavors in other Charleston spots, or prefer the traditional sabores you’d find at La Nortena. BUT, if I was with a group or hangry in the area, I wouldn’t object.

Kind of out of my element but the chicken nachos is a meal for two and it was good. If I go here again, that’s what I will get. Not a lot of bar options though.

We went to Basico for lunch in the middle of the week. We arrived about 15 minutes after they opened and they weren’t ready for us. So to help out we just sat at the bar. I don’t think that was the right move because we were kind of ignored. We ordered the tacos and the burger, EVERYONE raved about the burger. The tacos were ok but they were overshadowed by the terrible burger. l My burger was burnt on the outside and raw on the inside and the cheese they used on it wasn’t a melty cheese so it was a weird texture. I couldn’t find the bartender/our server to let him know. We never saw him until he saw we had stopped eating and he brought the check. I don’t see myself going back. That’s sad because a lot of people I know like it a lot.

Tasted Basico at an event when it first opened and finally made it back and glad I did. The cocktails were amazing –our table enjoyed a margarita, a paloma and planter’s punch and they were all perfection. I do want to go back and try the Honey Basil Margarita. Saturday night Happy Hour prices? Yep! $ 2.00 off apps — so we had two — quesadilla(simple) and empanadas, the empanadas being the hands down winner! Light crispy crust, tasty chorizo and a very good mole on the side! I was intrigued by the ‘yellow mole’ for the Smoke Brisket Enchiladas, but the server could not tell me what made the ‘mole’ yellow(he couldn’t tell me the ingredients). Thankfully my husband ordered it and it was the best at the table!!! I had the hangar steak — also absolute perfection, plated with a little corn salad. No sides come with your meals, all ala carte — so we ordered a few. Fries, street corn and coconut rice($ 3.00 for ½ cup-not worth it). The meals were of good size and a side was not necessary. If you are a heartier eater then the hangar steak might want a side — but I did not find it necessary. Besides, I knew there was a brulee on the dessert menu — one please, 4 spoons.

We were extremely disappointed with our second visit to Básico. It was, living up to it’s name, basic. My girlfriend ordered the Avocado Caesar Salad without chicken, wanting to sub shrimp, which they neglected to tell us beforehand they were out of. It was delivered to the table without avocado, doused in dressing that resembled honey mustard more than Caesar. I ordered the Black Bean burger, a new menu item. Oh man. It was mushy, the bun was stale and overall really lacking in flavor. Additionally, as a gay couple, we felt some weird vibes from both the waitstaff and other customers. We thought it was perhaps us being hypersensitive during our first visit, but it was awkward for us this visit too and felt it worth mentioning as Park Circle is typically so accepting. If we come back, we will stick with what they know how to do: tiny tacos and booze.

Always happy to go to Basico! The servers treat you like family and the food is always good. Highly recommend eating here if you are in the Park Circle area. Basico is a great mix of Mexican cuisine and an awesome atmosphere. I love going there when I’m in the area.

NOBODY can be more critical when it comes to good food than me. I make the Post and Courier critic look like a pussycat. Tried out Basico and looked for issues just to again be annoying. I got beat hands down. Bright cheery place and the food just perfect. Shrimp Veracruz and aropa if I spelled it right or aka Catalan version of pulled pork to next level. Part of Mixon Market where I go often with house hunters to lunch or with wife. Excuse to stop in and pick up home made pasta they carry. Hard to find Papadella Pasta and real Ravioli. I decided to have them cater my holiday party with some of my valued client & friends. Just go and enjoy.

Started my meal with the Frozen Cocojito. This is their take on a traditional mojito served frozen. If a Mojito and a Coquito had a baby this would be it. You should sip this drink not chug because it is loaded. Do not be fooled by the small size because it is quite filling and had a great tropical flavor. We shared a plate of Basico Nachos. The ingredients tasted fresh and was a nice portion. For my entrée, I had the Basico Bowl. This was very much like a Burrito Bowl from Chipotle. I was presented a bowl of coconut rice, beans, meat, pico de gallo, guacamole and salad with dollops of crema. It was a yummy dish. I really liked the décor of this place. I would describe it as a modern beach house. The servers were friendly. The prices were comparable to other sit down type of restaurants. However, It is much more expensive than Chipotle. In my opinion Basico had a similar flavor profile to the popular chain. Final Thoughts: This restaurant is an elevated version of Chipotle.

A little pricey, but pretty delicious. Apparently their happy hour deals are on point. Had the nachos and tacos.

Only two stars because of the Service. Food was great but the service was lacking. I am new to the area from the west coast so I was craving some yummy street tacos. The tacos and salsa were the best part of the experience. The restaurant is located in Mixon Racquet Club so the atmosphere is quaint. I will post up some pictures for you to view. If you are not a resident then you get to sit on a different side of there restaurant giving you the full«back of the bus ambiance». My waitress ripped the menu out of my hands after I ordered my tacos I had to ask for the menu again so I could look at the salsa list. There were two ladies and a gentlemen up front working they all had their noses up so far in the air it almost pained them to have a conversation with me. The cooking staff were the friendliest of all as they greeted me with smiles as they passed. The food was expensive but I am sure you can tell from my picture displaying the carafe of water(million dollar idea) I just knew that little soda bottle was going to make my experience so much more valuable. Alas when I thought the whole experience was lost a local came in she was immediately greeted by the gentleman with a hug and the waitress I was trying to engage in conversation to tell me more about the racquet club was diluted to um… Umm… Ummm as she watched the lady in the corner of her eye wanting to get over to her as soon as she could. Is this place for real? Is my patronage to this establishment really that invaluable?

My first and only experience with Básico thus far has been during brunch. I heard these guys were doing some unique stuff for brunch and I was not disappointed. They have a pretty delicious bowl of eggs and chorizo hash that will cure any hangover after an exciting Saturday night. They also have a great beer selection(which also helps). I really loved the chicken and churros though; definitely recommend!

There are some places worth the drive from downtown to Park Circle and some that just aren’t. After experiencing both brunch and dinner at Basico, I found the food to be among the best North Charleston has to offer. The cuisine is much more authentic than Americanized like I was expecting, with options like fresh chips, unique tacos, killer quesadillas and great craft cocktails, many of which are made with coconut water. I love that fresh chips and salsa come complimentary to your table to start, but think ordering a unique kind of salsa off the menu for $ 3 each is worth it to share with the table– the mango and smoked walnut are my two favorites! For dinner, two tacos for $ 8 or three for $ 11 is a great option. The tacos are simplistic but filled with unique condiments that elevate them from good to awesome– like the habenero crema on the baja fish taco and yellow mole on the brisket taco. The street corn is also not to be missed, topped with tons of cilantro and salty cotija cheese. For brunch, I love to split salsa with the table and order one of the hash plates– like the brisket with pimento gravy that cures a case of whatever fun you had the night before. Basico isn’t your typical Mexican restaurant. The food is much more refined than your typical taco platter with rice and beans. And it is for that reason that I will gladly be making the drive back very soon. Must-order items: Mango salsa Brisket Hash Street Corn House-made Horchata

I think this is a great little find in N. Charleston… Kinda right off the HWY, so we always swing by on the way back to Columbia! Love, love, love Mixson Market, the concept is awesome(farmers market, apartments, pool, modern homes, market etc). We’ve been on Saturday both times, around 4pm/5pm and we’ve always had the outside seating area to ourselves… it’s quiet and low-key despite the pool being around the corner. The menu is different which appealed to us… not the standard boring Mexican fare you’d normally find at chain«local» restaurants in the south(don’t want to name drop). I’ve had tacos(all non-meat) and the enchiladas for entrees and the guac, cheese dip, and chorizo queso for apps… The star for me is the GUACAMOLE… so fresh with a little kick. If you’re in Charleston(or on your way out), you should swing by!

We gave it another try after our previous disappointing visit and it really wasn’t that much better. I ordered the brisket hash which had excellent flavors and would have been five stars had it not been for me setting aside half the brisket because they were cubes of 100% fat. What a waste. Our guests enjoyed their tacos but commented on the small portions for the price. That’s never really bothered me because I don’t eat much at one sitting(partially true!). The drinks were top notch and the service was friendly. I just can’t get past the quality control issues coming out of the kitchen.

There is nothing BASICo about it! The food is great, the space is unique, there’s a nacho cheese waterfall, and their drinks are delicious. Fine, one of those isn’t true but dreams are what keep us young. I’ll see my waterfall someday. I’ve tried almost everything on the menu and I have yet to be disappointed. It is definitely one of my favorite restaurants in the North Charleston area.

First time we went was a taste tester in their back room. That was a few months ago and I’ve been craving their soup ever since. We were finally able to get back about 2 weeks ago and the soup did not disappoint. I could eat that chicken tortilla soup every day and never get tired — the portions were also very nice sized. I also loved my margarita’s. We then split the steak and enchiladas. The steak was on the small size but cooked medium rare to perfection and very tasty. The enchiladas were very tasty when we added their homemade spicy taco sauce and there was plenty to take home for a nice lunch the next day. The atmosphere is fantastic, although the staff seemed quite scattered. Don’t get me wrong, they were all wonderful but seemed to be rushing around and interrupting each other even when one of them was talking to a customer. The place was full, but it’s so small and there was a bunch of staff, we couldn’t figure out why they seemed scattered. That being said, it truly is a great place, great food, fun atmosphere and pleasant staff.

This was a difficult place to find. We get here for lunch and was seated immediately and ask what we wanted to drink. We order Salsa Trio.(We are not fans when restaurants charge for chips and salsa unless it’s worth it or the price is reasonable.) Within minutes a nice lady came to take our order and thankfully ahead of a couple of bigger tables that came in right after we were seated. We ordered the taco plates and a Pacifico on Draught. We got some chips and salsa but it wasn’t the Salsa Trio we ordered. Intrigued since so other table had a Salsa Trio we wanted to ask our server but she had disappeared for what seemed like a long time but it wasn’t. Our entrees came out and we asked our server about the Pacifico and if what we got was in place of the Salsa Trio we ordered. No that’s just the start. Let me say the food is really good and it’s tacos so food came out quickly. We were only in there for an hour but all the waiting for the Pacifico and it took and yes I timed it 11 minutes for us to pay the tab. She was nice enough not to charge us for the chips and salsa and the Pacifico without any provocation from us. This is a really nice place and the food is top notch. One hour was a reasonable time to have lunch but our lunch could have possibly been only 35 mins from entrance to exit versus waiting for a beer and to pay our tab.

This area is up and coming, but it still has a way to go. Stopped in for lunch, so so. Staff did not seem eager to serve you. Food is OK. Places is nice and up to to date. Prices a slightly higher then most, but that is due to the trendy customers. They will get tired soon of the prices. There is so much more out there. They really have to step up their game, since now it’s the only one there. The area pool is nice and the housing is also very nice. Frank G

This place falls right in with the rest of Mixon. On the hip(ster) side, but just get over it because the food is really good. The ambiance is neat. Very bright and light. Waiters in shorts and metal chairs and simple cups and plates. You feel relaxed just walking in. Chill out and ignore the high prices, this is Mixon, you shouldn’t expect anything less. Don’t worry, the food is worth it. Mexican street corn here is amazing(it is only on the lunch menu). Period. I’ve had them all and the is is the best in Charleston as far as I’m concerned. The rest of the sides are thoughtfully prepared and presented. The small menu is just enough to satisfy anyone. The chicken soup is a great option that isn’t always on the menu, so make sure to ask if they have it. Overall I go 4 starts because it’s a tad pricy and a little slow for a lunch stop. A neat spot to go have a cool experience with friends or a date.
