Pro: they seem to have a good selection of gear and good rentals. Con: I’ve had a string of bad experiences here with their bike service. My tire got a nail it in while biking to Folly so I took it in to get a new tube. Upon taking it in one of the workers gave me a lecture about cleaning my bike more often and begrudgingly listened to my service issue. They told me it didn’t need a new tube and that patching it would work fine. The next time I rode my bike the tire was completely flat. So I took it back in and asked them specifically to replace the tube. I couldn’t stay to see what they did, but the next time I rode my bike the tube was completely flat which makes me think they didn’t replace it and just charged me for a new tube. They also didn’t put the tire on right so it fell of and I had to fix that. I spent a total of $ 40 here for zero service and a whole lot of wasted time. I took my bike to Affordabike up the street and it was only $ 16 and I got what I needed the first time. Avoid this place until they fire that worker.

Found this place on a waiter’s advice. He said they would be the best place to rent a bike in Charleston, and he was right. Went in the day before to get info, and the staff was very helpful. The guy who rented me my bike drew a map of the most bike-friendly way to get around Charleston for an inexperienced rider. When I brought the bike back(after almost two hours, and only being charged for one), I asked where there was a sandwich shop so I could eat lunch. The same guy drew me another map and gave me directions that started with, «I’ll tell you the prettiest way to get there.» Great for sightseers and tourists because these guys are very thoughtful and patient.

I went in looking for some spin shoes and Kevin went above and beyond. He was patient with me and answered questions and even showed me how to click in and off the bike. I cannot wait to use my shoes tomorrow :) Will be back. Thanks again Kevin :)

I brought my bike in to get a bike basket and the associates were beyond helpful. They know their bikes! Kevin not only helped me pick out a basket, but he installed it, which saved me so much time. Because of their honesty and efficiency, I highly recommend the Bicycle Shop for tourists looking for bike rentals or locals looking for bike-related products.

We rented bikes here for about 3 hours on a Sunday. The service wasn’t great and they didn’t have hybrids like was advertised on the web, but the cruisers rode pretty well. We took them all the way out to Sullivan’s Island(I wouldn’t necessarily recommend that – they’re replacing one of the bike paths and it was a tough ride over the dirt). Price was good – $ 7/hour.

There are not many bicycle shops to choose from in Charleston, and I think it is safe to say that this is the best one to go to. I went in there to take apart my bike to be shipped back home, and the guys working were very helpful. Especially the two Kevin(an?)‘s. They took time from the work they already had going to lend me a hand or give me some advice. Plus, they were fun to chat with while I was working on my bike. Friendly, real guys working there. If I ever find myself in Charleston again with my bike, I won’t go anywhere else. Thanks!

Found them through a Google search. They had the bike I wanted and offered really helpful and professional service. Tod was very thorough in explaining the bike, controls, performing the pre delivery checks, etc. I returned a few days later to change a part to improve my riding comfort(no charge for either the part or labor!). Tod also went over the bike again making checks and adjustments. Highly recommend these folks.

I went in to get a new rear wheel and they said they got swamped today and wouldn’t be able to install it for a few days. When I asked about buying the tools to do it myself, the guy could tell I needed it done today, so he ended up installing the new wheel immediately and didn’t even charge me for installation. They could have easily charged me $ 20 to install the wheel, but were going out of their way to steal me away from the other bike shop in town. It’s a done deal. This shop is the only place I’ll go from now on.

While visiting Charleston, my partner and I wanted to rent bikes. Because we wanted to rent them overnight, they gave us cruiser bikes that had a back pedal brake. This was okay at first, because we only needed them to ride around SOB. However, they charged us for half the cost of the bike to do so. Which btw, was $ 250.00 for this type of bike(What?). And the charge went through the credit card as a ‘charge’, and not just a ‘hold’. And then, when we returned the bikes, the ‘refund’ was of course processed over several days. So, when my partner called to inquire about why they did a charge instead of a hold, the rep hung up on him! Although my partner was being stern, there was ineffective communication by the representative and then he hung up on him! AWFULCUSTOMERSERVICE, and again, AWFULBIKERENTAL!

The guys here are great. I can bring in my bike for a tune-up and pick it up the next day. Plus, when I had them change a flat, they didn’t even make fun of me even though I should be able to do it myself and it’d cost about $ 15 less. Oh, yeah. And one of the guys is kind of cute. Wait, I should give 5 stars for that!
