The food is fantastic, the bartenders are terrific and the live music, although a bit too punk for my taste, can be exhilarating in this tight and intimate venue. The open air patio in back is a great place to mingle with the Food & Bev crowd that forms the backbone of Downtown Charleston’s most exclusive restaurants. Heads up! One of the bouncers at this place is an informant for the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office, Metro Major Case Unit. As long as you restrict your purchases to food and alcohol, you won’t be escorted out in handcuffs.

Big Gun burger is nestled right in between the«nightclubs» of Charleston on Calhoun street. It’s hidden between the lines of Mynt and Trio but once you step inside, you feel like you have reached a safe haven. It is never too crowded and the bartenders are pretty friendly. It is the place to go when you are craving a burger or some mac and cheese. Their food menu isn’t extensive but they excel in what they do make. For full meals, you have your choice between a variety of burgers or a mac and cheese plate where you can pick 2 mix ins like chicken, jalepenos, peas or bacon. The fries are quite tasty as well with a perfect crisp. The atmosphere is casual with a pool table and an outdoor porch. There’s a pretty good selection of beer and a full bar available to quench any thirst needs.

Had their special which was a seriously delicious grilled cheese with bacon and tomato. Fries were good. They have some really good happy hour and drink specials too.

OMG the best burger ever!!! Hands down! It wasn’t busy and touristy, which was great! It was chill and cool. Pool table in the back kind of place! But above all, the burger!!! Classic! Amazing!!!

I had no idea that a burger could be this perfect! Hand ground in house. Homemade to perfection. We are contemplating ordering another for the table and splitting it. Yum!!!

Very good hamburgers. Cool dive bar atmosphere and hospitality. Meat and fries are made in house amongst other ingredients and you can tell. Not just a squished formed already made patty. Would definitely go there again.

Ive been here a few times and I dont know if they want to be known as a dive bar, but it feels like a dive bar… on Marion Square. Somewhat out of place. The beer selection is large, but dont get your heart set on the first one you ask for because they dont update that chalkboard when they run out. Service is… lacking. I dont think ive ever seen table service here. The bartender throws some menus on the bar as you walk in and says to come back when youre ready to order. More than once, ive had to wait until the bartenders conversation with his buds at the end of the bar was done before he would take my order. The food that Ive had is pretty good and as i remember reasonable for what you get. If youre looking for a divey joint near Marion Square, this is your place. If you wander in looking for a good dining experience, this might not be it.

Went inside and was totally ignored by the waitress even though she looked me straight in the eye as I sat down. The place looked dirty. I definitely would not recommend this place just from a service stand point.

To start waited awhile at our seats with no menu or waitress, approached the bar and waited, then finally got menu, waited again, approached bar can we get water, she said yes brought water, took order. Hamburger arrived, at this point we have no silverware, napkins or water. Wait again standing at bar to get napkins and ketchup and water. Got Napkins from her and ketchup. No water. We waited and waited for water I can’t eat and have nothing to drink stood at bar again waiting to get water. Finally a lady approaches asking is she can take our food or if we need water and I told her not now food is cold /ate about 4 bites of my burger and that we had been waiting for water for awhile. She said she wasn’t even on the clock, she wasn’t supposed to be working and they had people call out. Which can happen but not really my problem but became my problem. We stand again at the bar waiting to get a bill and pay it. No apologies from bartender /waitress. I paid for my food even when I didn’t or couldn’t eat it without drink, I have ms and can choke easy without drink. But poor service all the way around. Hamburger was good, and fries way over seasoned.

A total hole in the wall but the burgers and beer were fantastic! Maybe six tables total and a long bar which was packed when we arrived. I’m a girl and went with the veggie burger which was made w black eyed peas and it was excellent. My bf got the classic cheese burger and it was awesome as well. The hand cut fries were seasoned like bojangles and the Mac and cheese fritters were amazing(they are spicy so beware if that’s not your thing). The atmosphere is a little biker bar but there were families enjoying the burgers too. A pool table in the back if you want to hang out. It’s well worth the wait.

Thanks to Unilocal again. In town from Wilmington NC. Great place. Great pours, i had the Bungalow burger. AWESOME! Seriously it was great. I wanted to take my time and enjoy it. The brussel sprouts were also great. This is a diamond in the rough that is perfect the way it is now. The guests next to me were from Treasure Island, Florida. They had the Bungalow as well as the fritters and the Frenchman. They loved it. Way to go Big Gun. Great service from Heavy my bartender. There was another fella tjat served the food from the grill. He was also very attentive.

Great food and service, better atmosphere! Me and a friend came in here after Second Sunday, Had a great time — the bartender & cook were pretty funny, the people were laid back and you didn’t have to shout to talk.

Came in for a happy hour get together and had a good time. We kind of took over the back pool room area and ordered separately from he bar. We started off with some apps to share. The favorite seemed to be the Mac n Cheese fritters but the Brussels were great too. I opted for the Blue Burger which is always a good standard for me as I love blue cheese with caramelized onions. The burger tasted great and I liked the fries. Only issue is that the burger is a little small for the bun. Not that it isn’t a good size burger just that the bun to meat ratio is a bit one sided. Otherwise, everything was great and they had a decent craft beer selection as well.

Pouring in Charleston, thanks to Juanquin. This gem was opened and right down from our hotel. Hubby had the classic burger and said it was excellent. I had the pulled pork tacos, also excellent. We also had Bloody Mary’s which were good, but a tad spicey for me! All in all I would go back and probably will

I came in here with a friend on a weeknight. It wasn’t super busy, but this place is so small that only a few small groups would make it feel crowded. The bartender was really friendly and even tried to include us in the conversation he was having with his friends. I ordered that Mac and cheese while my friend ordered a burger. My entrée was a really generous size but a little too dry for my liking. Still, overall pretty good. My friend said her burger and fries were good. The place seemed to be run by the young hipster-type crowd. So if that’s not your cup of tea then I guess you should go elsewhere. Again, the bartender was super nice so you shouldn’t judge a book by its cover.

This was such a fun place to stop by after touring the market. Our bartender was hilarious and was extremely helpful in helping me find a beer that suited my tastes. The mac&cheese was also incredibly delicious. If we lived in town, I could see this becoming one of our frequent go-to bars. We’ll be sure to stop by again next time we’re in town! Thank you for the fun times!

Small place that seats about 4 people at each table. Ordered the Southern Hospitality burger which has pimento cheese, fried green tomato, bacon, and chow chow. It was a very tasty burger. Took a long time for the food to come but they apologized for the delay. Not badly priced.

I ate here last night with some friends. I arrived before everyone else and no one was in the establishment. The male bartender was great! He was friendly helpful and provided great service. When my group arrived I told them about how we order at the bar. We all ordered beers and after looking at the menus came to the bar to give the bartender our order. I ordered the special«dickie manship»(like from the direct TV commercial) it had aged cheddar arugula mushrooms and some kind of fancy wine onions. The burger was phenomenal. The bartender informed us they make their burger in house and it is 25% brisket. It was moist delicious and I definitely have plans to go back. My friend ordered some appetizer that was fried mac and cheese poppers with a white gravy dipping sauce on the bottom, she said they were amazing and I didn’t taste but will say they looked it. Staff remembered are names and it was all great. I recommend for sure. *this is a small place. Pretty quaint. Just a bar and maybe 6 – 8 tables that seat 2 people. You order your food at the bar. You order your drinks at the bar. So I you go on a busy bar night you may sit a long time before informed you order at the bar though seated.

Good food, fun atmosphere, large beer selection. The only complaint I can make is the unisex restroom not as clean smelling as it could be.

Can’t say anything about the food but the female bartender spent more time calling a guy out for not tipping her instead of taking care of customers who would tip. Bad for business and generally low class. I’ve been a bartender and would never display such poor customer service. Can’t stand the heat then get out. One drink and I was out the door
