Was I right, or what? They didn’t last. How come you haters haven’t flagged my review as ‘useful’ – which it certainly was?

It bit the dust. Unfortunately after six months and some very nice reviews, this restaurant in a risky location did not survive. R.I.P. Biggies!!! I never even had $ 5 Meatloaf Monday and I still miss it.

Biggie’s is a complicated place to review because they have a hard time deciding what they are, a restaurent and bar or a catering business. They try to be both but it seems that they sometimes neglect the restaurant based on the demands of the catering business they also run. Awhile back, Biggie’s used to be Granville’s, the name of aforementioned catering business. Then they closed for awhile and I was sad to see them go. Then they reopened with a new name and a new, more streamlined menu. One of the biggest reasons I like going to Biggie’s is the nightly creative cocktails they created. They were amazing! I have since learned that their mixologist has left. I really hope they can get another one soon and keep offering creative yummy drinks I can relax with. I also like running into Biggie himself… the owner’s adorable lumbering bull mastiff, which is the restaurent’s namesake. Regarding the food, they have some really solid, albiet limited offerings. Think upscale pub food. One of the best deals in Charleston is their Meatloaf Mondays. A nice thick slice of meatloaf topped with a yummy tomato coulis on a bed of yummy mashed potatoes… all for $ 5! I mean come on, that is crazy good deal for the quality and portion of this dish. Other things that are great are the butterbeans tossed with a sweet and tangy balsamic broth of sorts. Really good! The mac and cheese is another favorite. Biggie’s is open 5pm-12am most nights although sometimes they just randomly close for a day or a few… again this is the result(I think) of the catering business taking priority. Call ahead if you are planning on going here and aren’t exactly from the neighborhood. I really want to see Biggie’s survive because Waggener Terrace really doesn’t have many options for casual dining other than Moe’s Crosstown Tavern. I hope they can get their issues with their staffing and concept ironed out so they can keep serving yummy food and drinks in a relaxed atmosphere.
