what an amazing find in Charleston! we checked on Unilocal for a restaurant close to our hotel and found this gem, tacos? tacos always work, so here we go. on a corner of a downtown street is Bar Bar Black Sheep, a genius name already! its a big place and has a bar and a dining area, it also is a Brewery, i was not aware of that and gladly looked at their beer menu, i m not too good with american beers and a lot of them are too bitter for me so i asked the waiter to help me out, telling him that i like beer along the lines of Heineken or Corona, he recommended 2 kinds of beer and brought me a little glass of each one to try, great service i have to say! we decided on the nachos, that were good, maybe not my favorite because they chips were out of a bag, the toppings though were excellent and made the appetizer worth it for sure, huge portion also. we both decided for the flock of tacos, that was a choice of three of their Tacos. let me tell you, they have a pretty HUGE taco menu with many unusual choices. its not really Mexican, its for sure fusion but well made with great ideas, vegetarian, fish and meat choices. i had local trout, fried Avocado and Carne that was very good, again a great, manageable portion too. my partner had the beet, the local trout and the pork tacos and was very pleased with them also. quite a few people there considering that it snowed pretty hard that day and the streets were covered. there is street parking across the street with meters and we had no problems finding room. next time we try more tacos, although the burritos sounded really good also. nice place in the middle of the city, we try to be back!

Tacos win my heart every time. I’ve had fish tacos in southern California and IMHO they didn’t compare to the Baja fish taco at Black Sheep. I wish I were lying. I also get the Thai peanut shrimp taco, but ask for light sauce. I like my food rich, but a friend told me it is rather peanut sauce-y…and I can definitely taste that. The wasabi tuna taco also rocked my world. Can’t believe such good seafood is in the middle of a landlocked state. If I could get Black Sheep any day of the week I would eat their burritos and chili more often. Strangely, I enjoy their cocktails overall at the Huntington Black Sheep more than this location. It’s such a hit and miss that I can’t even make recommendations to new patrons. I end up saying«This one tastes like fall, this one tastes like spring, and this one tastes like winter» They aren’t very strong, either. I’ll save my money for more fish tacos.

After moving from Charleston I realized how good I had it. BSB is a solid spot, best tacos Ive ever had & some hella good brews. I wish I had a BSB here in Cincinnati because as far as tacos go nothing comes close.

These tacos were stupid good. I tried the salmon, the baja, and the asparagus. So good. I’m devastated that I have to work tonight, so I can’t drink, but I’m going to be here for another week, so I’ll be back! Yum!

Fantastic place to eat(for Charleston, WV). Let’s be serious, restaurants are all relative. When you have few choices, like in Charleston, WV, when you come upon a gem like Black Sheep, it gets an automatic 5. I may still give it a 5 if it was located in a more foodie robust city, but all I could think while I was eating was 5, 5, 5! I enjoy non chain restaurants that give quirky selections. Black Sheep definitely fits the bill. They have Korean BBQ burritos! I am glad my husband got that. I fell in love all over again when he ordered that(it was my second choice). I got the smoked salmon salad. Both were absolutely delicious. The salad was huge; I brought home half. The burritos are a good size. Definitely not giant chipotle burritos, but that is to be expected at a place like this. He got it without the kimchi. If you don’t like spicy, avoid the kimchi. It was super spicy! We started with the chips and salsa. The salsa was really fresh. I enjoyed everything. The atmosphere is hip and young. This is one of my new favorite places to eat.

Food was ok, service wasn’t very good. I’m in no hurry to go back. Bottom line, not impressed. The building and atmosphere is cool. The hipster waiters were unimpressive. I told my guy that I didn’t like hoppy beer, they were out of the Porter. I asked what else they had that’s dark; he suggested an IPA. The Hendricks Mule was good.

With so many black sheep options, allow me to order for you: (01) Have one of every Charleston Brewing Co. beer available via flights. They brew right next door, and you can see the tanks from your seat. If you like hoppy and malty sips, you’ll like the beer! (02a) If have as difficult as a time as I do in ordering, opt for a flock of three tacos. I must warn you, this is still going to be a hard choice, because there are 15 nontraditional tacos to choose from. However, making three choices is easier than just one. I decided on the grilled asparagus(w/sriracha-honey glaze, pickled onions and fried wontons), roasted beet(w/mesclun, chipotle orange mayo and goat cheese crumbles), and seared wasabi cashew-encrusted tuna(w/sesame-ginger aioli, chili-mirin, daikon-carrot relish and fried wontons). No doubt I’d do all three again. (02b) If you have little trouble in ordering just one thing, do what my boyfriend did and go the burrito route. He ordered the Hawaiian Pork with no regrets. I got a bite of his pork shoulder confit, grilled pineapple glaze, shaved red cabbage and fried plantains, and I felt food envy. If you aren’t into conforming to one’s recommendations, I wish you the best of luck to you in ordering from Black Sheep’s nontraditional menu. The options are equally appetizing. Based off of our four fun bites, I have a feeling that you can’t go wrong, so I wish you happy eating!

Brunch is fantastic! I especially enjoy the chicken biscuits and gravy as well as the chicken and waffles. Very filling. Love getting the flock of tacos in order to try the unique and different flavored available. The chicken and steak are always good! They have local craft beers available that are brewed on site. Great atmosphere and also great for private parties.

Was told this was a must while in Charleston… great advice given. So much food; I ordered the most popular item Bulgogi burrito with sweet potato salad ad to wash it down with an large spicy pineapple maragarita

Food was great. The Bulgogi burrito is very flavorful, but be warned it has some heat(waitress said it had just a «little» kick). The General Tso burrito was also good, but could have used a tad more sauce.

For a place this far out from the border, the tacos here are pretty good. :) By no means is this authentic or do they come close to Mexi-Cali style street tacos, but they are fine tacos none the less. I had a trio of pork belly, steak, and bulgogi style tacos. Each one was unique in flavor, and a good portion size to leave you full. I would skip the steak though as it was very simple. Only other knock would be the guacamole. The chips were good, but the guacamole didn’t taste quite right, and I would avoid it.

Food is probably decent for Charleston, WV, but I was not impressed. I had three tacos, including the grilled asparagus, chicken, and pork belly. The pork belly was good; I liked the pickled onions and the wontons. The grilled asparagus was just okay; I liked the sriracha-honey glaze, but the asparagus wasn’t cooked very well. The chicken was too dry. I also really wasn’t a fan of the tortillas; they are very bland and have an odd aftertaste. The menu is very creative and the service is good, but the execution wasn’t very good. I probably wouldn’t return here.

Good ol Blacksheep! What a great spot to grub in Charleston. I would have to say one of my favorites in town. For some reason I didn’t finish the review and now I feel bad because the bartender was amazing and I cant remember his name. The beer selection here is perfect as well, you have to love a good local craft beer. Stop wasting your time reading this and go already!

This has become our no-brainer solution to «where do you want to eat?» We may throw some other ideas out there, but always come back to Black Sheep because the delicious foods, craft beers, and inventive mixed drinks,. My personal favorite is the tempura avocado taco. I think what I really want is just a huge plate of fried avocado and the spicy orange aioli. Can you make that happen, Black Sheep? Also the roasted beet salad is crazy good, and the ginger sangria is my favorite. It’s almost fall, so I hope they bring that sangria back soon(although the blackberry margarita is keeping me happy until then.) The sweet potato salad with chipotle dressing is another favorite. Oh, and the brunch menu is really good. Vindaloo Eggs Benedict? Yes, please!!! My whole family loves Black Sheep, and it’s almost impossible to find anything that makes all of them happy. My husband loves the craft beer — the Larger Than Life seems to be his running favorite. My Dad loves Wobbly. I got them both growlers so they can take home a little of their faves. You just keep on doing your thing, Black Sheep. We love you!

Wow wow wow! I LOVED this place, I wish it was closer so that I could dine there more often! I think this is a weekly stop for my friend and her hubby. and I can see why. Our server was friendly. but not over friendly. We all started out with a drink and they were all great(local beer, sangria, and mojito) I chose to have the trio of tacos: Chicken– Marinated Grilled, Pico de gallo, Mesclun, Lime Sriracha Crema & Queso Fresco Hawaiian– Confit of Pork Shoulder, Pineapple Glaze, Shaved Red Cabbage & Cilantro Bulgogi– Korean BBQ marinated Flank Steak, Kimchi, Smoked Cashews & Cilantro They were all so good… I don’t think I could pick what one I like best, the bulgogi really had a kick… oooo baby! I hope next time I’m in town I can stop again!

Attached to the local brewery. Enough said for any craft beer folk. If you are more concerned with the food I can give it a thumbs up for that too. And a friendly and laid back atmosphere that doesn’t sacrifice prompt and efficient service either. You have to stop here if you are spending any time in this town. The beers on tap are 9 rotating brews from the brewery you can see through a wall of windows. Solid food. I had a burrito with tofu and chipotle sauce, and it was delicious though the tofu was just kind of stuck in without anything exceptional about its preparation. Despite that it was delicious all together and really filling — and the half I didn’t eat carried over well as leftovers which is always nice. The entire restaurant feels well managed and organized with great service and a great selection on tap and in bottled beer. I only hope the Charleston Brewery moves to national distribution this year so I can get their beers back home in NYC!

A gem in an otherwise unremarkable dining scene. The food was fresh with well-developed flavors. There were a number of options for all tastes(there are even vegetarian options). The ingredients were fresh and of good quality(no super-soft, non-textured meat or chicken a la Chilli’s or Applebee’s here). I decided to go with a flight that included two meat options and one chicken. There are a variety of different flavor profiles but I chose to go with straightforward tacos as a way to get a good feel for the ingredients. All three were really good. So much so that I ventured into a few more(the kimchi taco — I forget the name on the menu — was awesome). The beers are not an afterthought here. The staff is knowledgeable and pleasant and the service is fast and efficient. Overall, I think this place does a great job. It’s a must in Charleston.

Stopped here on a trip from North Carolina to Ohio. The burritos were amazing, with flavor on point. I had the Baaad Ass Burrito with Death Sauce on the side. The flavor was out of this world and I couldn’t stop eating, though I was clearly full. We came on a weekday around 1:00 and the place was empty. We were seated, ordered, and served, all within 10 minutes. I was very impressed! Perfect for our road trip. They also have an excellent selection of local and international beers. I’d highly recommend the beers that they brew in house. They have a good mixture of different types of beers, you’ll be able to find any that you like! The atmosphere was great. Good feel with both a restaurant and bar area. I’d definitely come back again!
