This is a great venue! The seats are comfy, the sound and lighting was wonderful, and the bar upstairs with a great beer selection and entire bottles of wine all made the experience even more enjoyable. Ill certainly come back to see more shows here.

I attended a showing of the documentary«All Things Must Pass» here the other night. I had no idea they even had a film series and I think I’m not alone, because the place wasn’t packed, which is a shame because people were missing out on a great film. The screen and sound quality were great. The seats were comfortable and the bathrooms were clean. There was a snack area/bar but I didn’t stop to check it out. Great night, can’t wait to check out more of the upcoming films.

The groups that they book for the Charleston Music Hall are always very good, if not great. The acoustics are good and there are no truly bad seats in the place. Quite good recently when I saw Warren Haynes(former guitarist with the Allman Brothers Band and also«Gov’t Mule»). Yes, I will be back!

Strictly as a venue, CMH is great. Well-maintained, clean with good design flow. There’s not a bad seat in the house(except maybe you don’t want to sit behind the tech booth if you’re easily distracted by their lights, but it didn’t bother me much). Clean bathrooms. Two bars. Great location along John Street right at King Street. I’d hold events there if I lived in CHS. Also has a parking garage right next door.

I actually love this venue, but they are losing stars because of my experience with seating/the ushers. The positive: this is a great, intimate space to see a show. The acoustics are great and you have a good view of the stage from any seat(I know this to be true because I was re-seated so many times). They get really interesting performers and it’s a great location for food/drinks, etc before or after a show. The negative: on my most recent outing to the Music Hall, we were seated by an usher and all was well during the opening act. Between the opening act and the headliner another usher came over to us and told us we’d been put in the wrong seats(completely wrong section) and showed us to the«correct» seats. No big deal until the headliner started… and another usher came over to us and told us we were again in the wrong seats(this time in the correct section at least). At this point, my inner bitch came out and I said something about having already been seated incorrectly by different ushers and she started to explain the apparently complicated seat numbering process to me. Um, since I am not an usher there and did not seat myself, I don’t think I’m the one who needs the training. Other people in our original section were also apparently seated incorrectly and moved at various points. It seems like a small thing, but unfortunately, it was really disruptive of the experience and sometimes the small things are the most important ones.

The Charleston Music Hall is a great venue to host events. Experiencing Pecha Kutcha tonight. Great atmosphere and availability to enjoy the local restaurants in the one block area. Great community asset!

I started off feeling really positive about this event. Now I just feel ripped off. I paid 15 extra for VIP which was advertised as drinks and bites. It was cupcakes and subway type sandwiches along with some weird fruity drink. Don’t waste your money on VIP seats. The comedy was okay at best. 3 or 4 laughs, six comedians, an Arsenio Hall MC warmed over, and a pointless DJ … I’d recommend skipping the whole thing.

I’ve been to the Charleston Music Hall(CMH) for GIANT Conf 2014 and 2015. GIANT Conf is an awesome design conference, so if you’re into UX, graphic design, interaction design, or a related field, check it out! CMH is a seated venue, so that can make it awkward for rock shows where everyone is standing. The floor slants down toward the stage, so standing for extending periods is no bueno. But I think CMH would be a great venue for folk, instrumental, or other chill music. I’ve seen a couple bands play as part of GIANT Conf and also a round of karaōke. The sound system is great. There’s a lot of history to the building, as it was originally built as a station for the South Carolina Railroad in 1849. Starting in 1878, the building was owned by the Charleston Bagging Manufacturing Company, who made woven fiber bags for cotton. The Bagging Company closed in the 30s and the building was vacant till the Bennett-Hofford Company converted it into the Charleston Music Hall in 1995. If you’re visiting Charleston for an event at CMH, you should consider staying at one of the hotels next door. The Hampton Inn Charleston Historic is adjacent to CMH, and the Embassy Suites Charleston Historic is around the corner.

Great small venue, with excellent acoustics and sight lines. I’ve been here for music performances, stand-up comedy, lectures, panel discussions, and a dance recital. Convenient parking at the Visitor Center garage, just a block away. Within walking distance of numerous options for pre– and post-show dining and drinking.

Got free tickets to see a bluegrass concert, so I ended up at Charleston Music Hall with some friends. Bluegrass is certainly not my thing, but live music is OK, so I figured why not. The venue itself is great. Spacious, comfortable, and sound great. The staff had no issues with me bringing an outside coffee in, and my friends were happy to buy some decent beers at the bar for the concert. Seems like a very laid back theatre. I dig it!

I love that they have some great music there. I don’t think there’s a bad seat in the house. The problem I’ve run into are these drunk and obnoxious college students who want to stand in front of people and do their slutty hippy dance. If everyone is sitting down trying to enjoy the show, the ushers and staff should have all rights to ask them to step into the isle and dance their asses off. If I pay a fair amount of money to sit in a seat and one spoiled, socially impaired girl stands up in front of me… Well let’s hope that doesn’t happen…

I have loved each show that I’ve seen here. Friday night they were checking IDs at the door, which was ridiculous! Since when do you need an ID at the Music Hall? That really irritated me, since I couldn’t get a glass of wine.

I just saw the spectacular Christmas show, My admiration continues for Brad and Jen for their creativity and talent recruiting. I am very happy to be living now where I have access to this exceptional entertainment. I eagerly await their next two shows.

My husband and I had the pleasure of attending a show here while on vacation, and we weren’t dissapointed! The Music Hall is beautiful inside, with comfortable seating and great acoustics. The sound engineer for the particular show we attended wasn’t the best, and didn’t do the opening act any favors, but fortunately the artist we came to see(Justin Townes Earl) seemed to have a better idea of how to adapt to a situation such as that. My husband and I sat up in the balcony in the second row. We were a little confused since, when we bought our tickets, our seats were one of the few that appeared to be left; however, the actual night of the show there were empty seats all over the place– some of them down on the floor closer to the stage. Perhaps several people just didn’t show up for a show they paid to come see? Who knows. Our seats were still just fine, though– we had no problems seeing, hearing and enjoying the show.

I’ve lived in Charleston almost a decade now and I had never been to the Charleston Music Hall until recently. I was there for a Tony Lucca & Brendan James show that unfortunately wasn’t well advertised(not a lot of people at the show). I really enjoyed the show there. It is a definitely a small venue, which I love, and lent itself to a great show because of it. There really isn’t a bad seat in the house and I thought the sound was excellent. It would be a really excellent place to see a play due to good visibility of the stage from many angles. The lobby is really small, so I can imagine it can get crowded for a large show. You can also reserve the hall for private functions. It’s next door to a host of restaurants on John and King Streets so its easy to grab a bite before or after a show.

Love the Charleston Music Hall and everything Charles Carmody has done with it. I’ve seen a couple of shows there, but visited most recently for Pecha Kucha. It’s such an intimate space, and that balloon drop was possibly one of the best moments of my life.

First time here but I have to agree with Joy S that this is a great place. Acoustics are great and it does lend itself to a more intimate show. They get fantastic artists here for their concert series that you won’t find anywhere else. I’m looking forward to more shows here and will update after.

I just saw the only listed review was a 1 star and I immediately had to remedy that. I’ve been here a handful of times for different shows and have always had a pleasant experience. Recently, I saw Andrew Bird here in October 2012 and it was easily one of the best concerts I’ve been to and I’ve been to a lot. The last show I went to was a Charleston music showcase with Luke Cunningham, Slow Runner(who I really went to see), and The Explorer’s club. That experience wasn’t as magical and there were quite a few problems with sound that night. So I’m not sure if it’s a case of who’s working the sound for the night that makes the difference or what. However, in that case, I think some of the issues were brought on by the band as well. One of the main reasons I like the Music Hall is because I think it’s the perfect size. It’s not too big but you’re also not going to be elbow to elbow like other places… cough, Music Farm, cough, cough. There’s really not a bad seat in the house and I feel like wherever you sit, you’ll be able to see the entire stage. And yes, I just said«sit,» which is another thing I like about this place. I do think there are some shows that you just can’t sit down for, but the shows I’ve been to at the Music Hall have all been great to be seated for. And for those people who just can’t stay seated, I’ve seen many people either stand in the back or go along the sides to dance.

WHAT A DISAPPOINTMENT! My friend and I traveled across the country to catch our favorite band at this venue. We had front row tickets(that is the only reason we attended this show). I called a few times before the date of the show to make sure that the seats we had were really front row, that there wasn’t a pit, etc. They assured me that yes, we had front row center seats. When we arrived at the venue, we found that, at the last minute, they had added a row of folding chairs in front of the front row. This was because, according to the ushers, they wanted to accomadate more people(the show was sold out). They put people who waited to buy their tickets until the day of the show in front of us. Needless to say, we were furious. We would have not traveled from the West Coast if we knew we had second row seats. Not only were we cheated out of our seats, but the sound quality was poor and the staff was unaccomadating. Never again!
