This review is based on the milkshakes and sweet tea. Food at Cookouts are often greasy fast foot you can get anywhere. One does not go to Cookout for the food. No, no. One goes to Cookout for the FORTYDIFFERENTTYPESOFMILKSHAKESTHATWILLCHANGEYOURLIFE. Having been introduced to Cookout while living in Raleigh when Cookout was still«an NC thing,» I’m soooo pleased they’ve expanded into VA and SC. My favorite flavors: Peanut butter fudge strawberry cheesecake If you’re a fan of runny milkshakes, Cookout shakes aren’t your friend. You will probably need a spoon to start enjoying your milkshake when you first get it, unless you have super sucking skills(pun intended). Also, Cookout is open ridiculously late(on weekends). So that late night milkshake craving? Satisfied. Finally, the sweet tea is on point and they have baby ice cubes that are perfect.

my five star Friday is a little piece of drive thru heaven! yes this is a chain hamburger joint but what they serve is amazing. here are some of my favorites: the bacon cheddar hot dog!!! Amazing!!!, next you have to have a side with that, yep 8 onion rings! so good! maybe you want to get a burger right? then you need to get the cookout style, comes with slaw and chili! oh dear me it is the best! if you are eating this burger in the car, get a towel! now you’re going to need a drink, sure you can get a soda or iced tea but why not take it up a notch? get a coke float! so good! or if you’re brave a cheerwine float! now thats a meal! also my daughter and her family love to stop here on the way home from the airport. if you haven’t tried them, do it today!

Neither the burgers or milkshakes were better than anything from a standard diner. We had really high hopes after a long day out but just didn’t get the hype. Really disappointing.

After moving to charleston from LOUISIANA I will have to say the cookout tray is the best food to money ratio I have ever gotten for fast food and includes a drink . the choices are endless. there shakes are to die for. and the prices are affordable

Great milkshakes and great value. Burgers are meh and having a disgusting corn dog as an option on a combo doesn’t really do it for me. Slaw dogs are good though and it’s tough to complain with what you’re paying. Overall it’s ugh… pretty good.

Shortly after moving to SC, we checked out this location and an unhealthy love was born. I didn’t even know what I was missing out on! The cookout tray… man. Where else can you get a burger, nuggets, fries and a shake for like $ 6?! Everything I’ve tried from here has been really good. The portions are huge, the costs are low. Staff is neither friendly not rude, and they’re usually pretty accurate with the order. There’s something magic about those nuggets though…

Really enjoyed the food at this place, it’s excellent fast food, but the staff is so rude that I won’t be enjoying there food. If you try to make any changes to the way it’s written on the menu these people freak out. They have a now hiring sign out front hopefully they are replacing everyone.

I give it a 3 becasue the staff is extremely rude and the NEVER give me ketchup. Food is cheap and delicious though so worth it.

Delicious. One of the best fast food restaurants. Spicy chicken could have been spicier but it was still really good!

Great burgers! BBQ and A1 are my favorite. Great for something quick on the go with the $.99 items. The shakes are some of the best I’ve ever had. Oreo mint is my fav. Second in line is God cheese cake.

They have a tray deal here, which is THE best«I’m hungry and broke» deal you can find anywhere! Plus, it includes a drink! While their portions of nuggets are TINY(three nugs in a tray), their milkshakes definitely make up for it. I’ve had two pumpkin pie shakes already! December is nog month, so we will see how that one is! I really like that the staff is super friendly. This location has no seating(some do inside, like the one in North Chas/Goose Creek), but they do have the double drive through and the walk up window for ordering. The food quality isn’t incredible, but for $ 5 anytime, it’s pretty good!

The food is marginal, but the milkshakes warrant an extra star. The food is inexpensive and tastes as such.

A lot of people kept talking about it, so I had to give it a shot. With so many people recommending it, I guess I had high expectations. It’s just fast food — nothing more, nothing less. Some interesting options, like corndogs as a side, but overall — it’s fast food and it tastes like it. There’s one thing that’s pretty impressive though and that’s the price. This place is an excellent value for the quantity of food you receive. Get a burger with a corndog side and a soda for $ 5 and you’ll be stuffed to the gills. I’ll go back someday when I have a corndog craving, because the corndog was the best part of the meal. And they’re open until something like 4am — crazy!

Their food is served incredibly fast. I highly recommend their milkshakes which taste better than any others I’ve ever had at any restaurant. Their milkshake selection is also the best I’ve ever come across with 39 flavors. I like their Cherry Cobbler shake and also their Peach Cobbler shake. I also recommend their Out West Style Char-Grilled Hamburger. Their Cheerwine Float(w/vanilla ice cream) is also delicious.

I’m chasing a perfect thin party burger I used to eat as a teen and this didn’t hit that spot. Nevertheless, burger was food, onion rings were awesome(don’t skip these!). I was too full for a shake but there’s always next time.

Only place where you can get cheerwine at a drive thru. I ordered a combo with a bacon wrap and they gave me a chicken wrap. It said cheddar style which makes me think a nice slice of cheddar. Nope its sloppy nacho cheese mess!

How can you go wrong with Cookout and how can I say what hasn’t already been said? You get some really good quality food that tastes great at a really good price. Cheeseburgers are fantastic, the chicken wraps are amazing, the hushpuppies and fries make me happy, and the milkshakes are some of the best I have ever had. What else can be said? Go eat their. Now!

People tend to accuse active Unilocalers of being foodies or snobs or(my favorite phrase) foodie douchebags. You tend to lose an appreciation for simple food amidst all the talk of wine pairings or Asian fusion or molecular gastronomy, which is a shame, because sometimes I just want to have some Domino’s or Wendy’s or Popeye’s. Sadly, I live in Atlanta(hence, the lack of mention of Bojangles), because Cookout is one of those places that hits that note for me. Adding upon the simple premise of tasty fast food, Cookout provides pretty much the best milkshake menu ever, with all manner of different flavors to make my mouth smile and my lactose-intolerant stomach grumble and choke. This particular Cookout is on a very convenient corner around the bend from Costco, meaning I can score a cheap burger and milkshake just after addressing all my giant tub of mayonnaise needs.

So, I don’t get milkshakes, ice cream, dessert, out very often. Typically I eat a scoop of grocery store brand frozen yogurt out of the half gallon container each night in front of the TV to relax… but when my husband and I want a milkshake, Cookout is the place to go! Cookout is kind of elusive. There’s no corporate website or Facebook… no happy meals with toys or big advertisements. If you google it, you can’t find much beyond pictures of the menus(no caloric information, dieters) and reviews like Unilocal. They don’t really advertise, I guess the milkshakes kinda sell themselves. The shakes are less than $ 3 and there are probably 40+ varieties to choose from. The Heath Toffee one is really good. You can go fruity, candy, chocolate, and they will customize it for you and combine the flavors if you’re nice about it. No indoor seating but there is a double drive through. If it’s a nice day you could pick up food and have a little picnic, but since we live close, we just drive off with our shakes… after paying the very nice, courteous staff of course. If you’re hungry and want a lot of food for cheap, go to Cookout. I wish we’d had it when I was in college! But, we just go mainly for the milkshakes.

I am honored to leave the first review for Charleston’s very first Cookout. For those of you who do not know, Cookout is one of the greatest American traditions. Here, you may get a burger or a chicken sandwich. Sounds boring, right? Wrong. Here is where it breaks away from McDonalds or Hardee’s. You may have two sides: a corn dog, a cheese dog, fries, onion rings, chicken wrap, sloppy joe, a quesadilla or chicken nuggets. That’s right friends, for something like $ 5, you can essentially get three meals. And for $ 1 extra, you can get a milkshake, and they have 10000 flavors. I give Cookout the coveted 5 star award for having great food at a great price, and giving you great bowel movements the next morning. Enjoy, and make sure to sleep close to the bathroom! But trust me, it will be totally worth it.
