I’ve been a fan of this place every since we’ve lived in Charleston. I actually just realized I’ve never given this place the review it deserves. Here goes! The atmosphere is pretty hipster, which comes across critical, but it really works for them. To add to the hip vibe, there are ping pong tables in the back room, where I’ve been pitted against some serious competition. It’s no joke back there. I’ve had some ping-pong-ball dents in my face for sure. I can’t recall ever having a bad experience with my service. They’ve always taken care of us. It’s specialty is gourmet burgers and I’ve never really felt a need to try anything else. When I think«burgers» this is the first place that comes to mind, and that’s why I return when I need my fix. What I really love is their willingness to step outside the box. I love trying new things, and this place will push you to try something new. My favorites is the Hurricane. I never would have thought a duck burger would be so good.(Of course I need to mention they have a pretty good beer selection, which doesn’t hurt!) When it comes to burgers, this place is as good as it gets. It has a burger for the boring, but you will regret not trying out their more adventurous options. And don’t forget the ping pong!

Nice location in the heart of Charleston’s King Street. I was seeking a good burger for tonight and used Unilocal to find HOM… I made the right pick amongst numerous choices. Awesome burger(Backyard Burger), amazing fries and a lovely lil’ salad… just what I needed. Service was«ok», waitress could have been a tad bit more hospitable, but maybe she was tired *shrugs*. Nice crowd picked up as it was a game night(game 6NBA Finals), full bar with tv’s and additional tv’s in the back along with pong pong tables. I felt like a local as opposed to a out of towner.

The cowboy killer burger was good. But they charge for ketchup, which is ridiculous considering that they charge the fries as a separate side.

Great happy hour with good food and drinks, sweet bartenders, and ping pong! A little more casual than a lot of the fancy bars on King St, but not a dive bar either. We stayed at the Hyatt across the street for a few weeks and this was one of our go-to bars.

The ping pong novelty is about the most attractive part of this joint. Despite hearing reports from others that the lunch service was extremely slow, we tried it for happy hour dinner. Yep, service slow. Beer selection is limited, mainly low brow mainstream cheapo beers. Burgers on happy hour menu we small and very basic, nothing special. The food seems to be an afterthought to the bar. There are better choices on the same street.

I got the backyard burger, it was a very flavorful patty and good and juicy. The comeback sauce was very good. I got some on the side and dipped my fries in it too. The fries were fresh and had a good crisp. The sweet Potato wedges were really good too. I like how the water is served out of recycled wine bottles. Something we are going to start to do at our house we will be back! Oh and the blt Bloody Mary was a perfect sippy for a late lunch on a Sunday!

I like HoM for happy hour and honestly wouldn’t go after happy hour. I love their wraps and sliders for extremely reasonable prices, especially the BBQ burger and bacon wrap. Check out their menu for their dinner items which are completely different than the happy hour menu. Drinks are also pretty cheap for happy hour-$ 1.50PBR and $ 3 Fireball. The ambience is really nice, in a unique way, and the full bar is nice. They do have a game room of sorts in the back where you can play ping pong while waiting on your food, or just to hang out. The water is brought to your table in a recycled wine bottle which I thought was really awesome. The target audience is definitely that of college students, however I’d recommend it to anyone. It’s a little bit of a walk up King Street, but this is definitely a great place to start your evening downtown!

I’ve been here a few times now… mainly for the table tennis… which is funny because I have my own table and I think I’ve played more at Hom in the last year than I have at Home(see what I did there?! Ha!). The two times I’ve been here, outside of a Unilocal Elite event, I’m not sure I even ordered a drink. Others in my group did and enjoyed it. Prices seem on par with other places along King St.

Very casual restaurant on King St. downtown. If your looking for happy hour with great prices and quick services stop in HoM. My friend and I stopped in for a quick happy hour mere minutes before the stop of their 4 – 6 p.m. happy hour, but the server still allowed us to order off the extensive menu. I had their vegetarian taco, which is only $ 3, but massive and a Smack Dat Mothra pork patty burger. Both items were completely amazing and I wanted to order another round. The drinks prices are very cheap for King St. Tecate, Coors Light and Miller are $ 2, with PBR at $ 1.50. Wells are $ 5 and Fireball is $ 3!!! Other great options include Tacos for $ 3, Dogs for $ 4 and Burgers at $ 5. Definitely stop in if your looking for a laid-back atmosphere with lots of college kids.

Hom is a pretty good burger joint. Not the best in Charleston, but very accessible location on King Street and amazing fries. For bar food, it far excels most places on King Street. Good beer selection and great happy hour deals. The ping pong tables in the back add a fun element to evening drinking, and renting out the back room is very cheap. My favorite is the lamb burger. Filled with flavor and plenty of food to leave you waddling out the front once you’re done.

Definitely one of the better burger places in town with some unique and interesting burger options and nice twists on classic sides(fancy tots!). Good selection of beers(local beers too) and cocktails. They also have a nice collection of ping pong tables(and I think darts or other bar games) in the back. Solid place for a bite or to hang out and have a few beers.

I’m kicking myself for not being more of a regular at this specialty burger joint. I dined here a couple times around the time it first opened: did brunch, and a lunch here or there. Looking back I was definitely pleased with those bites, but for some reason I hadn’t been in a few years. I stopped in last night for a casual dinner and some drinks with some friends and I was seriously floored by the food. The whole menu is a stoner’s dream come true with all sorts of impressive toping combinations on flavorful beef patties, and also a nice assortment of ‘alternative’ sandwiches that just beg to be consumed. I went with the ‘Godzilla’ burger, which sounds a little intimidating. I was afraid with a name like that the burger may be a true monster, but with the topping listed(goat cheese, bacon jam, tempura pickles, slaw) how could I resist? The sandwich itself is not monstrous in size, but it is in flavor and I enjoyed every ounce of it. Lets not forget about a great bar staff as well, and a really great happy hour from the look of the menu. I see myself coming here on a much more regular basis.

We enjoyed sampling some of Hom’s great food at a Unilocal event and knew we wanted to go back for the full experience. We stopped in for lunch and had a great meal. The Mister had the Earth Ultra(a very creative veggie burger topped with tomato jam and arugula dressed with balsamic vinaigrette), our designated meat eater had the Godzilla(double decker hamburger with goat cheese, bacon jam, tempura pickles, slaw and more), and I had the falafel(a burger-sized and shaped falafel patty with hummus, peanut relish – I have no idea what is in this besides peanuts but it was ridiculously delicious – , vegetables and tahini. Mister and the meat eater had fries(outstanding!) and I was somewhat restrained and went with the A&W beet salad(roasted beets, arugula, and a root beer dressing. So good!). We enjoyed every bite – the meat eater usually picks off any and all vegetables but even he ate all the green stuff on his burger. The only disappointment was the veggie burger — the flavor was great but the texture was kind of a ball of mush. We’ve had better and unfortunately, we’ve had better at Hom. This is a really fun, casual burger place that gets creative with the menu and mostly gets it all right.

HoM is, well… it’s just ok. I attended a Unilocal Elite party here a few months back and thought the place was super cool. So much so that I knew I wanted to bring out of town friends here. But this trip was very, very, lack luster. Service was slow and it wasn’t even that busy. Food was mediocre in my opinion and not what I experienced at the Unilocal event. We had a table of 4 and my buddy’s GF ordered a burger of some sort. For the rest of the table we ordered an appetizer of the parmesan tots, sweet potato fries and the mac and cheese with chicken. The sweet potato fries were good and that’s where the positive portion of the food stops. The tots were soggy and not served to our table hot at all. The mac and cheese was tasteless. Not real sure on what burger my buddy’s GF ordered, but she said it was ok. So in conclusion, I can’t believe I walked them all the way down King Street to go to this place, only to be let down. The only good thing about it was that we were so far down King street, we were able to walk off all the bad tasting food we just ate. I’m not saying HoM is a bad place. I’m just saying I was not impressed at all on this visit.

AWESOME!!! This has to be the best burgers on the penninsula. Very unique toppings and great side dishes. Oh yeh the appetizers arent too shabby either. Then before or after you eat its pretty cool to play some ping pong. Great Place!!!

The worst bartending staff: rude and incredibly inexperienced. I will never go back. A blonde female served me tonight and complained about her tip. I gave her a twenty percent tip for three drinks that she gravely messed up. She gave me attitude when I asked her to tweak the drinks. Later in the night she even messed up a Coke with grenadine. The venue is very run down and dirty. It’s a joke of a restaurant.

Among the best burgers I have had in my life! Delightful and juicy… Great service-very kind and patient bartender, very accommodating to make the client happy! The overall ambience is nice: laid back, music is not too loud, so you can enjoy your food and drink and talk… This place was recommended to me and I am very happy I checked it out. If you want a good drink and a delicious burger, check this place out!

Cool interior if not inviting décor. Service was ok, but the lack of quality in the food is really what warrants this review. Fries were overly salty and not cooked properly so soggy and not crisp. The burgers were ok but I don’t understand why folks cannot figure out bread to meat ratio. The bun fell apart after he first bite. Overall, I’d skip this joint there are far too many better offerings on north King st.

The food was delicious and has a good variety on its menu. I liked the atmosphere and the choice of music. The service was a little slow but friendly and the restroom could use a little big of cleaning up but overall I would eat there again especially the meatball sub which was super delish.

Did not know about their happy hour but now that I do, I will be back. I ordered the burger with basil, peanut butter, bacon, and bananas on it. I was suspect but for $ 6 I thought I had to try it. Not a huge burger but the flavor was out of this world and with a PBR to wash it down with I was really impressed. The bartender was very attentive and found me in the ping pong room when the burger was ready. Great place for a quick meal and a beverage to go with. I will be back.

I have only been the HoM once, and it was for a Redux after party shindig. Plenty of sizable sliders going around: BB, beef, chicken… dude refilling the sliders was cool and friendly. Will hit this place up again to provide a fuller review: More to come!

5 stars for one of the most AMAZING burgers I have ever had. I stopped in late for lunch on Saturday with my husband and we split a hom burger and the samosas app. Perfectly cooked burger, medium of course, soft and juicy with tangy cheddar and house made mayo. SERIOUSLYDELICIOUS! Samosas were legit too! We thought they were so good we came back the next day for lunch so we could each have our own burger! I mean it when I say it was perfect, and it was consistent(super important in the food industry). When I’m in Charleston again this will be my first food stop!

Hom is home! I’ve tried brunch and dinner at hom and I got say it’s tasty and unique. For dinner, it’s all about the burgers. Being a spicy fanatic, I went with the green hornet. Now it was not the most appetizing looking burger with all the oozing green but it sure did tasted good and was a mess to eat! Messier the better is my motto for food. I love sauces and options and hom caters easy to that. Brunch=delicious. Blt Bloody Mary is your daily source of vegetables with great taste. Starving, had to try an appetizer and went with the bacon chocolate chip fritters. They were a bit overcooked but the dipping chocolate masked that! I wish there were thicker bits of bacon but it was good. I got the cow egg and it included fries too! What’s a cow egg you ask? Basically a fried ball of an egg, then bacon, then burger meat. It was good but id probably go with a standard breakfast meal next time! Still a great place. Good drink deals and ping pong for the competitive!

I love food, and I always enjoy a good burger. With avoiding gluten, however, comes the typical pitfall of often needing to order a burger without the bun, or being upcharged for a gluten-free bun. I was very excited when I came across Hom, because they offer gluten-free buns at no extra charge, and the menu generally sounded delicious. I will note that my friend and I both felt quite old dining here on a Saturday night, as it seemed everyone else in the restaurant was college aged. However, service was friendly, and the food was very good. I particularly liked the fact that some of the sides are healthier than at the typical burger joint — the salad I has was fresh, and generally excellent. The fries were also very good, as were the dipping sauces.

I was into Hōm yesterday for a second try, as I was unimpressed by my first visit: I wanted to give them a fair chance. It was still terrible. Why does anyone like this place(it must be the ping pong in the back). My sister and I sat in a booth towards the front of the dining room, and shortly after being seated a very smelly homeless dude wandered in and started bothering us. We tried and tried to get the attention of a staff member to help us shoo him away, but we were left to fend him off by ourselves!!! Very scary and very very negligent of the staff. Speaking of the staff, they more or less ignored us. I mean… we placed an order, and got our food, but our server was PAINFULLY, AGONIZINGLYSLOOOOOOOWWWWWWWW!!! We waited(and yes I’m anal enough that I actually timed it with my phone). 30 minutes for our lunch to show up: the same 30 minutes in which we had to fend off the above mentioned smelly homeless dude. And then we had to wait another 10 minutes for our check to arrive, after having to ask for it. How was the food? It was okay-but only just ok. And for $ 9.50 for a burger; I do not expect to shell out another $ 3 for fries!!! Really? Can you say«rip-off», boys and girls? I am pretty certain that after having 2 bad experiences at Hōm, I will never again grace them with my presence or my money. There are better burgers for a lesser price all up and down King St. That’s all I have to say.

A friend was in town, so my husband and I came here today for lunch and brought our friend along. The have ping pong in the back and other fun stuff, so it seemed like a fun place to hang out. We got a parking spot out front, dropped some quarters in the meter, and headed in for lunch. I wanted to try HoM for awhile now because of the vegetarian options– and if you are a vegetarian or really don’t like traditional burger restaurants, HoM is the place for you. I intended to get one of the veggie burgers(they have 3 options for veggie burgers which is more than I’ve seen anywhere else), but the waitress totally sold me on the special– salad with arugula, red cabbage, cauliflower cous cous, feta, white bean purée, parsley dressing and a balsamic reduction. My salad came out beautifully and was delicious. The argula is a slightly bitter green, but the balsamic did a good job of cutting that bitterness. Also, the califlower cous cous and white bean purée made the salad hearty and filling. It was very reasonably priced(I was actually surprised at how cheap the salad was for a downtown restaurant and a special). HoM had many vegetarian options on the menu. 3 veggie burgers, several salads, and the sides could be made vegetarian(brussels sprouts without the bacon bits). The menu changes frequently, and I would definitely return to try more options.

Great service and the classic burger was amazing! It was fun watching my wife beat Scotty at ping pong. Knew I married a ringer! Want to rave about the fries and homemade ketchup. Fries cooked just right, crispy and hot plus dipping into fresh homemade ketchup was the best. the server let us taste some regular ketchup to compare, going homemade all the time! Really fun Unilocal event. Will be back!
