Environment looks nice and trendy. Food was okay. My wife ordered a Gyro with fries, the gyro was cold. It tasted like it came out of the refrigerator. The fries were ok – some of them tasted undercooked. I had the oyster po’boy. It was good and tasted like any other oyster po’boy. Unsure if the service was lacking because it’s 2nd Sunday – whatever, that means. We’re from out of town but apparently the street outside of the restaurant is shut down every second Sunday of the month. No one ever explained what it was but don’t see why that is a reason in lacking quality service. Maybe when we’re back we’ll come on a non-2nd Sunday to see if there is a difference.

This is a family-owned Greek restaurant, so if you’re looking for the best seafood in Charleston, go elsewhere. However, if you are looking for authentic Greek comfort food, you can’t do better!

As a turkish person who doesn’t mind the«pig» in gyro, I decided to check out this restaurant on the first day of restaurant week. When we sat down and unraveled the napkin covered utensils, I found a piece of burnt hair stuck to my napkin. But I tried to let it bot get to me. My boyfriend got the gyro sandwich from the main menu, and I ordered the calamari, gyro platter and the baklava from the restaurant week menu. The fried calamari was very greasy, but eatable. The distribution of salt was uneven, which meant it was a gamble on how salty your calamari piece would be. My bf and I both found the gyro bland. The pita bread was good and tzaziki was delicious. I liked the rice they brought in the platter, however half of my rice was hard, as in the picked the bottom of the pot where the rice got hard as it was drying then reheated it and put it on my plate. The fries were great however. Only homerun. The baklava did not taste like baklava. Baklava uses a special kind of syrup that can’t be substituted just anything you find in the kitchen. Will not go again.

My husband and I had our anniversary dinner here. I normally check Unilocal, but did not see this restaurant on the map. We decided to take the gamble. We waited at the front door for a couple of minutes, even though it was not busy, until waitress finally told us to seat ourselves. That was a little odd, but no big deal. We ordered the appetizer for two and a Greek salad. While the meat on the appetizer looked a little«tired», the flavor was great. The salad was fresh. No complaints on the flavor. The ambience is a little dark and there was a lot of dishes being thrown around into the sink(one time I actually jumped, it was so loud), but all that aside, we left satisfied.

Staying at the Belmond Charleston Place across the street. While walking King Street I picked up a takeout menu. Ordered for dinner and walked across the street a few minutes later to pick up. Great gyros and well worth it. May eat there a second time before I leave.

I recently ate here with a group of girls in town for a bachelorette party. There were 14 of us in all. I have never been treated so incredibly rudely by staff at a restaurant in my life. Because of the size of our group reservations were made 2 months in advance of our trip. When we arrived the young lady at the front of the restaurant acted as if she had no idea we were coming. She seemed extremely annoyed and huffed while attempting to seat us. She took us to a back room that was large and empty with lots of tables. We were then immediately moved back to the front where we were told to try and squeeze around 4 small tables. There were 5 of us still standing, and it was obvious that there was not enough room. She told us to «squeeze in» and tried to sit two of us together at each head of the table. Had we even been able to all fit half of us would’ve been eating with our plates in our laps. She again huffed loudly, rolled her eyes and wanted to know why we couldn’t «just make it work» because it would be «a lot easier» on her if we didn’t make her walk so much! Those are seriously the words that came out of her mouth. Then another server approached to know what the problem was. A few more extremely rude statements were shared and we were all moved back to the previous room. Once there she had to slide a table and chairs together, and she was slinging them with such force I had to move out of the way to keep from being hit. We were all pretty much in shock by her behavior. The back room was uncomfortably hot and humid, to the point that we were all drenched in sweat. Our new server informed us the entire restaurant was hot, but she would«check into it». The service continued to be horrendous. We were told she wouldn’t be able to put people together on checks b/c it would be too difficult for her. Then when the checks were brought out she sat them all in a stack on the table without an attempt to hand them out, and walked away. And, it never got any better. I’ve never seen service this bad in my life. Not that it was just poor service, it was actually offensive! The food ranged from ok to extremely overcooked/burnt. Out of everyone there were two of us that sort of liked their food. I would never recommend this restaurant to anyone, not even my worst enemy. I am frankly still in shock by the entire experience!

Old Towne grill and seafood. Imagine my surprise that it’s a Greek restaurant. We were walking on king and saw oldest family owned restaurant. I try to patronize family restaurants. Gf and I sit down. She orders crab cake sandwich. The worst with no crab. I order the chicken and gyro combination. The chicken was dry and the gyro was tasteless and the tzasiki was watery. I only gave them 2 stars because the waitress was pretty good. I suggest they fix their food or they will be another independent going out of business.

We had a party of 8, they sat us in the very back. It was uncomfortably hot and humid in the back, after bringing out drinks we all quickly downed them. Fast forward at least 20 – 30 minutes, we are still waiting for refills. Literally didn’t see our waitress for probably 30 minutes. I had to go up front, stand at the bar, and request another waitress/hostess to please locate our waitress and let her know we would like refills(the place is tiny so her absence was odd). The food was all around good, Greek Salad, soft shell crab poor boy, burger, etc. Everyone liked what they got but the service was inexcusable and unfortunately gratuity was already added at 18%

Personally I think our server was the highlight of the whole meal. Her name was Ashtyn and she could not have been more insightful and helpful. That being said the moussaka was also phenomenal accompanied with a Greek beer called mythos. I could not have been more pleased with my experience at olde town!

The service was pretty good, as was the food. My friend and I had gyros that were very good! It was an easy place to walk into for lunch and get a booth right away.

Amazing food, server was very friendly and knew the menu in detail. The portions… we ordered the lunch option of our dishes and were stuffed before we could finish half. Great flavor, definitely order the lemon chicken soup.

Shrimp and grits were perfectly cooked! Just enough spice to make me take another bite! The starters were just as fantastic, the Lima bean soup — I’ve never had a soup like that, I could have eaten that for supper!!!

Corned Beef & Cabbage Rolls: Corned beef, shredded cabbage, diced potatoes, mozzarella and provolone cheese in a fried wonton — the house made remoulade sauce takes it over the top This is a delicious app making you want more — I could make a meal of these Irish Car Bomb Cheesecake: Guinness brownie topped with bailey’s cheesecake and fresh infused jameson cream This dessert melted in our mouths — You could taste the hint of Baileys — the hint of jameson — we wanted more more more We will definitely order the Corned Beef & Cabbage Rolls and the Car Bomb Cheesecake again! The Gaelic Chicken: seasoned chicken breasts on a bed of mashed potatoes drizzled with rosemary infused Irish whiskey sauce — was very good — not something we would order again just because we are not gravy people but it was good It had an Interesting smoky flavor which we were not sure if we liked. Restaurant is dark, so hard to get good picture. Live band playing old songs. Pleasant atmosphere Great service«Read less

We were hungry and decided to try this place out. Everything besides my drink was pre-made The chicken was Dry and over cooked, «Steamed» veggies were very oily and over cooked as if it’s already been made and sautéed to re heat Honestly the only thing I liked was the soup that came with the platter Save your money

FINALLY — I’ve been on a huge search from someone in Charleston to cook a burger medium rare — I’ve tried several of the biggest names in Charleston and although good, they wouldn’t cook it medium rare but Olde Towne Grill did. NICEJOB!!! The bacon on the burger was probably the best bacon I’ve ever had, freshly grilled, not crunchy like old bacon that’s been over cooked and sitting around. Unfortunately, the meat itself could have been slightly higher grade. I LOVE fatty, juicy burgers, but the meat was a bit stringy. The fries were very average. The ambiance was bleh. If I was in the area and someone wanted to go, I’d go again. Definitely a decent meal, but not something I’d go out of my way for.

Didn’t even get to try the food! Waited to be sat for over 20 minutes, when they said it would be 10, then once we were seated, we waited 20 minutes from r someone to come take our drink order, we even asked the server next to us, and no one ever came. This was on 2nd Sunday and was outside. We ended up just leaving and going to another restaurant down the street. Avoid this place, unless you like horrible service!

Like so many local patrons, we headed down to Charleston on their montly Second-Sunday-of-the-Month event where they close down a section of King Street to traffic, allowing thousands to wander in and out of local shops, listening to erstwhile musicians ply their trade for a few dollars in tips and, like us, enjoy the local scenery while indulging in a curbside dinner. Olde Towne advertises itself as the oldest family owned restaurant in Charleston, and since I didn’t do a background check, I’ll take their word for it. We scanned the menu and they had some fairly standard Greek faire and the prices were no higher than average for the city whose reputation is built on food. We weren’t looking for ambition, just a marginally memorable meal while we watched a couple pre-teenagers play endless choruses of When The Saints Come Marching in across the street as passer-bys tossed dollar bills into their cases like so many leaves of lettuce. Wife Laurie was impressed by the addition of soup, salad and bread with the Felafel plate. The soup could have been right out of the Campbell repertoire and most of the Felafel was left sadly resting on the platter when it was taken and discarded by our charming waitress. By the way, you have to credit the waitress for her enthusiasm considering that she had to walk almost a whole block from the restaurant to get to our table. We were so far away from the actual restaurant that one passer by stopped to ask which restaurant we got our food from. There was a promising review of the appetizer sampler and as an appetizer enthusiast, I went right for it. It was advertised as for two so I figured it would be large enough for an entrée. And it was. Size wise there could be no complaints. Of course, taste has to figure in somewhere, and I’m not sure where it did with this plate. The spanikopita was adequate, but the gyro meat sorta lied there exhausted from having been cut and laid out many hours ago. There was absolutely no life in it at all. I could have gotten more flavor from my shoe, but it would have been impolite to put it on the table, and would have left me with an uncomfortable walk back. I did like the big hot peppers that came with it. But I don’t think they grew the peppers there and can only tip my hat to the chef for his ability to take them out of the jar(hopefully in a sanitary way) and place them on the plate. Now, I am not suggesting that Olde Towne is without virtue. I did walk inside briefly and it looks comfy enough. And the seating outside was ideal. The food had little to recommend it, but on the other hand I didn’t fling it across the street either and I left full and even brought some home to further torture myself or perhaps to give it some artificial respiration with additional seasoning and heat. If I was supposed to be impressed by the fact that this was the oldest family owned restaurant in Charleston — a city renown for its culinary delights — I was. But I was impressed mostly by the pure tenacity of this establishment to survive so many years of mediocrity in the midst of so much overwhelming competition. On the other hand — the $ 4 Reisling was satisfactory.

My fiancé, myself and two of our friends decided to eat here today. We put our name in with the host, who told us 10−15minute wait. We said no problem. 30 minutes later we decided to check on the wait time as we still hadn’t been seated. The host looked shocked to see me, and said he thought he already sat us, and must have skipped us. He said that he had no tables at that moment, but assured us we’d be next. We were sat next, to his credit, 10 minutes later(we kept a close eye on the host stand). He gave us our menus, and said our waitress would be with us shortly. 20 minutes later no one had greeted us yet, so we flagged down a waitress walking by and asked her if she knew who our waiter was. She said she didn’t know, but would find out for us. We waited another full 5 minutes, and still no one approached our table to even ask for a drink order. At this point we all decided that we did not want to give this establishment our business. We were all very appalled and disappointed. I only wish I were exaggerating about our wait times, we wasted nearly an hour there.

I decided I was going to eat at a restaurant I have not patronized before. It looked interesting so I walked in. It is a family owned restaurant(I prefer to eat at such locations if service, quality, and portions are decent). It is actually run by a family of Greek descent– go figure. The décor is that of a family owned establishment. No frills, but comfortable. I wasn’t that hungry so I ordered their appetizer sampler. Wrongo– it was HUGE! It had gyro meat, the flakey spinach pastry, stuffed olive leaves, two slabs of thick cut feta cheese, olives, peppers, and salad, with pita bread. The flavor was terrific! I am not a huge grape leaf fan — so those were okay. The spinach pastry was above fantastic! I visited on a Thursday during the off season. Downtown was not busy and Old Town is not in the touristy area — so they were not busy. The service was prompt. The waitress was friendly. The prices were average for Charleston. I will definitely visit again.

Ok, it’s a tavern. Food is at best OK, sat outside on 2nd Sunday, maybe they were just too busy, but my wife, daughter, Son-inlaw, and 2 small children felt like they needed the table so get us out quickly. Waitress spilled tea on me, asked for our order 3 times even though we were not ready to order. Had to ask for silverware after meal was delivered. Will I go back, NO! FrankG
