Went here last night with a good friend for his birthday meal. He was in the mood for sushi, and happened to find this place after a little bit of looking up new places to go. The pictures showed some very fresh cuts, and so it was decided that we’d definitely head over. We were intensely satisfied with the sushi. For myself, I opted for a couple of rolls(salmon and spicy red snapper) and a few pieces of nigiri. The salmon had a visually pleasing and tasty amount of fat on it, but I feel that my favorite item of the night was the scallop nigiri, which basically felt like it melted on my tongue. My buddies and I usually keep a mental list of places we really like going back to, and Shiki instantly made it onto our list. Very fresh, very delicious, very much worth your time.

AMAZING, fresh and they had super-fresh UNI! the sashimi cuts were perfect, and the sushi was NOT pre-wasabi’ed.(I liked that). WE did not have any rolls, but the combo’s looked lovely that were delivered to the table next to ours.] we will be back when next in Charleston.

First visit to Shiki based on reviews here. Was a bit skeptical due to the location but we wanted to find our ‘go-to’ sushi restaurant downtown. Well we found it! Small but nice spot with a number of tables taken when we arrived. The owner was behind the sushi bar making his creations – even gave us a comp cucumber roll in between our orders. He’s been here for 14 years and I can see why. Make your stop and sit at the bar!

I consider myself an experienced sushi carnivore. The quality of sushi, the night we ate was slightly below average. The quantity was below average. The choice of sushi cuts presented in the sashimi was primitive, small, and mostly tasteless.

Try the Sushi Lunch special! Yummy fresh salmon, tuna and yellowtail rolls plus California roll. The lady who served us was very nice and the service was fast and efficient. Also try the seaweed salad, edamame, and green tea.

My daughter and I tried out this spot after finding it on my tablet. Very cozy and nice. Wonderful collection of sushi rolls to pick from. The food was fresh and spot on quality. A nice out of the way gem that needs to be mined. I recommend it wholeheartedly. Also the place was very clean. Didn’t see the restroom for mention.

I came in here for take out sushi. I’m not very adventurous, but I am pretty particular about it. I had the california roll and vegetable roll. They both passed my standard, I would definitely come back for more! I loved that the vegetable roll was not your typical roll, but also filled with things that weren’t exotic to me. The service was super fast and friendly. The server took my order, and asked if I had questions. The time it took to walk in, order, and walk out with my food must have been under 5 minutes.

I absolutely loved Shiki! Our waitress was friendly and accommodating. We sat at the sushi bar and the sushi chef was very nice and attentive — I’ve never received sushi so quickly! The sushi was great and tasted very fresh, especially the bagel roll. This was my first time at Shiki and I will definitely be back!

If you’re looking for a typical sushi restaurant, this place is not for you. When most people think of sushi, they think of the«Americanized» version, but Shki offers true Japanese-style sashimi and nigiri, with large, fresh cuts of fish and perfectly cooked rice. My husband has visited Japan and was so excited to find a place that offers(what he considers to be) legitimate sushi dishes, and it did not disappoint. The fish was so fresh and full of flavor, and the saki we ordered paired with everything perfectly! Can’t wait to go back!

The sushi was pretty good. I am still biased to a place in Atlanta. The service was awesome. Our server waited on us hand and foot. This is a small cozy, very casual place.

Fresh tasting sushi: great balance between the fish and rice/sauce/vegetables. The owners were very nice and courteous. Many sake options and great presentation. 10⁄10 would eat again

I was very surprised by this place. I’ve been in search for a decent sushi place in Charleston for a long time with no luck. I had the vegetable tempura udon, yellow tail hand roll and my husband had the chirashi bowl. The fish was all very fresh, the portions were very good. My udon was very tasty but the tempura didn’t come out until almost towards the end of my meal and it seemed like it needed about a minute longer to cook because it was a little pale. The service was average, could be friendlier. The place was small and quaint with simplistic Japanese décor. The way the check came out was strange because there was no itemized handout of exactly what we ordered just numbers. A plus is that Shiki has a private lot so parking isn’t a problem. Overall, everything was very good I will definitely be back again. If you’re a purist like me and are looking for simplistic hand rolls or nigiri this place is for you!

My wife and I are Sushi fanatics originally from Chicago, and Shiki is one of the best Sushi places that we have had the pleasure to try. Fantastic food at very reasonable prices. It will be our new go to in Charleston.

Best sushi in Charleston, this place is never busy which is crazy because it is the best. Fresh fish is the name of the game and shi ki has the game to tame. I’m hesitant to even write this review because I do not want my favorite hole in the wall sushi spot to get overun but I also never want them to close their doors so please go here and eat, regulary, but not when I’m there.

Very nice family owned Japanese restaurant. We had the edamame, super crunch role, sushi and two custom made temaki’s(role). The food was good and the atmosphere very laid back. I definitely recommend this place.

My friends picked this place one night. All I knew was we were getting sushi on East Bay so I was expecting the atmosphere to be very similar to the seafood restaurants on East Bay. Not what I expected but I would describe this place as a hole in the wall. Whenever you got a craving for some sushi, this is a great place to go for a reasonable price. I had a Japanese beer, spicy tuna roll, and volcano roll all for under $ 20 bucks. The spicy tuna roll was good as expected, no flair or anything. Now the volcano roll, I will be getting that everytime. I’m sure other Japanese restaurants serve rolls like this but it was freakin delicious. The roll has soft shell crab and the kicker is they add fried batter on top, smelt roe(those orange egg looking things), and its served hot. Basically it has a nice gooey crust on top of the roll and it had a nice kick at the end of each bite. I WISH I had taken a picture but yall will just have to use your imagination until I go next time and snap a pic. The waitress recommended we get the Dynamite roll next time because it’s the same as volcano but with scallop too. Nice find. Will be going back for that volcano roll for my next craving of sushi!
