Seriously haven’t had a bad meal on this menu yet. I usually come for breakfast but I’ve heard the lunch is good too. Get the Texas stacker and a coffee! The staff is very friendly too.

This is a great hidden secret in Charleston. I particularly love it because it’s convenient to where I live and I can walk in for a fast and yummy breakfast. I always get a bagel sandwich and try a new combination each time and they never fail. I know it is and«express,» however I do wish there was a little more room for those that would like to dine in. On busy morning it can get relatively crowded. The customer service is also good which I really like in the morning.

I had the most wonderful tomato crab bisque soup here as a daily special. I also had the tomato melt — delicious! The place is small, but there is also a private outside area to eat. The staff was very attentive and nice. Everyone I was with loved what they ordered. Great place for breakfast and lunch!

I recently went to this great restaurant for breakfast and could not have enjoyed it more. I had one of the best veggie omelets ever not to mention the delicious mimosa!!! The staff was friendly and more than accommodating!!! A must place to eat when visiting Charleston!!!

This place is really tiny, so keep that in mind if you go during a busy time and hope to sit down. I had the tomato and basil grilled cheese that came on nice, thick toasty multi grain bread and was delicious. I paired it with the tomato coconut soup, which was perfect for dipping– the soup was tart with the essence of coconut, but not sweet at all. Also loved the hot chocolate– made with steamed milk, sugar, and cocoa, just like it should be :-)

I had originally planned to go to a different café but after arriving there found it was closed on Monday’s. Bummer. However the map showed another place close and you all Unilocalers gave it pretty good reviews so I headed over. There was not too much for a non dairy/non meat person on the menu so I ended up getting a sesame bagel with peanut butter and a bowl of fresh fruit. Well that was the best sesame bagel I’ve ever had. It tasted freshly baked. The peanut butter was great(not the gross sugar filled kind of my childhood. yay!) and the fruit was a mix of tangerine’s, kiwi, berries and pineapple and was absolutely perfect. I was so happy not to just melon and strawberries! However the Southern Pecan coffee was out of this world good. I do love my coffee but I kid you not I had FOURCUPS. In 20 minutes. It was that good. I was wired the rest of the day very happily. The wait ladies were fine — they weren’t in any hurry to serve but did the basic job. I’d come back here in a heartbeat — I only deducted a star because I usually weigh menu options for vegans and others who would like a bit of choice and there was not much here for choice. It’s mostly a meat and dairy crowd. It’s a little place with some charm and the best coffee I’ve had in years!

I had the sunrise sampler, with sunny side up eggs, sausage, potatoes and French toast everything was excellent with lots of flavor. Good coffee plus free refills. Reasonably prices two people $ 24 with tip. Next time I go I’ll probably get the 3 meats shrimp grits. Also wonderful friendly staff all around nice experience.

I went to this location for breakfast, and I would go back for some simple, good breakfast. It could be a bit pricey, but I liked that it seemed to have fresh ingredients. It was a casual dining atmosphere, so you can dress however you like. The«Xpress» means that there isn’t much seating at all, so I would recommend just going there with one friend to make a party of two. I had the breakfast burrito and would recommend that to others.

PHENOMENAL Shrimp & Grits! I came here for breakfast and got a special of chorizo, shrimp & grits and it was the best I’ve ever had! I have been to Hominy Grill down the road about 5 times and even went a few days after checking out Sunrise Bistro and their shrimp and grits didn’t even compare to how good Sunrise Bistros were. My mom got the veggie/Mediterranean omelet and she really liked it. Both the chorizo shrimp & grits and the omelet were a perfect size, both of us finished every bit of ours, no need for a take out bag. Service was fast! HIGHLY recommend this place if you’re in Charleston. This will be one of the places I have to go to when in Charleston from now on! Loved it!

Consistently good food, pleasant service. I’m thrilled to have a thriving business finally back in this spot post black bean co. They do a great job and make a mean breakfast burrito and omelette. We love getting take out when riding the struggle bus Saturday morning. Worth a stop if you’re in the neighborhood.

I am not getting this rating fellow Unilocalers. This restaurant serves us average, home-cooked food, below average orange juice and average coffee. For the price you should get gourmet ingredients and more inventiveness I think. I don’t know if the server was having a bad day, or just really stoned, but she brought out a huge basket of plastic cutlery and put it on our table for a sec before she realized what she was doing. Weirdest thing that any waitstaff ever did while I was being served? Would give it a 2.5 if I could, 2 would feel harsh but ingredients and service need to get much better. PS Jason, the owner contacted me after my review and I was impressed by his follow up. He seems like a guy who sincerely wants to have a high quality restaurant and will work to get it. It was easy to root for him. Hoping next time I can give a better review

Really delicious food in a small and laid-back atmosphere. My husband and I ate here for two breakfasts in a row(on a Tuesday and Wednesday.) Both mornings he had the Sunrise Special and I had the Tomato Melt on an Everything bagel(a good vegetarian option.) The food is really delicious and comes out quickly. Tip: try the grits! I don’t even like grits and I couldn’t believe how delicious these were. The coffee is also some of the best in the city. Take note that the place is VERY small… there are only four tables inside and four outside(with four barstools inside.) Both mornings(weekdays) we didn’t have to wait but I would guess that that might be different on a weekend. Our only pet peeve was the music that was REALLY loud — it was hard to carry on a conversation. That being said, it won’t stop us from coming back. The owner is very nice and checks in as well. It’s REALLY affordable! Two hearty breakfasts and drinks for under $ 20. A great low-key little find — we highly recommend!

Excellent for breakfast! Better than Hominy! They do farm to table but aren’t as pretentious about. Come in the mornings. Haven is great!

Started our day of touring with a great breakfast at Sunrise. There is little seating in an outdoor patio and some tables inside. My husband ordered a Texas stacker which was grits, 2 cheesy sunny eggs and bacon on top of a Texas toast(see photo) which was unique but still classic enough to satisfy even the pickiest palate! I ordered the western omelet(eggs, bacon, onions, peppers) and added the«roll up» option for $ 2 extra which basically put my omelet in a tortilla roll(plus salsa and sour cream). The presentation can best be described as sushi-like(see photo)? Service was very friendly and helpful! Overall this was a solid breakfast and left us satisfied! We would recommend for anyone wanting a moderately-low priced breakfast with most of the classics.

Just a few blocks away from the long lines(dang it, Rachael Ray) at Hominy Grill, there is a dog-friendly, NONSMOKING, outdoor dining? This is a rare gem. They could serve microwave meals on cardboard, and I would still give 5 stars. The food, however, is every bit of what you should expect in this town gifted in the culinary discipline. Despite their simplicity, grits are an art form — as are the Med omelet & breakfast burrito, both of which I can assure you are excellent. Parking is easier on Rutledge…

What a find! If you’re looking for a delicious and creative breakfast option, this is your place. Sunrise Bistro Xpress is relatively small but extremely cute. Yeah, I said it. it’s cute! They have open faced omelettes on the menu, which is new to me, but they looked incredible. I tried their breakfast burrito and they nailed it. This has definitely earned a spot as one of my favorite breakfast spots in Charleston.

When I come to Charleston, I expect unique out-of-this-world lowcountry cuisine. This place isn’t exactly on the top tourist breakfast places YET but after this review that might change. I think highly of myself don’t I? Having visited C-town several times over the last 20 years, award winning food has never been hard to find here. Unilocal listed several highly rated breakfast spots but Sunrise caught my eye because it had a perfect 5.0 rating. I know it only has forty some reviews but still, I was intrigued by it’s rating and unique menu. The name«Xpress» will give you an idea of how small it is inside but don’t let that scare you away. This place is big on taste and southern hospitality. We were greeted and seated by the owner/manager of the place. We ordered Mimosas and coffee to start with. We were expecting a champagne glass half full but to our delight it was a mighty Mason jar filled to the brim with it’s intoxicating nectar. They have four different self-serve pitchers of coffee. We got the southern pecan and it was delicious. I ordered the daily open faced omelet special which was full of chorizo and cheese. It was tasty. My lover ordered the three meat shrimp and grits. All I can say is Bamm! The grits were delicious, the shrimp was«Charleston fresh» and the sausage/bacon mix with some sort of gravy was Dy-no-mite! Skip the crowded touristy breakfast places and sashay on over to the Sunrise Bistro. Not only will you thank me, you might even shower me with gifts.

We absolutely loved eating breakfast here during our visit to Charleston! We ended up getting front and center parking without realizing it was residential permit parking. Luckily we didn’t get a ticket even though we were there for about an hour. We loved the atmosphere, decorated with surf art. The staff was friendly and I enjoyed sitting at the counter where I could see into the kitchen. The dishwasher that day was jamming along to music the entire time in that contagiously happy way. We enjoyed our omelette and burrito which had shrimp and avocado, seasoned extremely well. Our food was quickly delivered. And my latte was absolutely perfect!

Great value! Walk one block down from Hominy to Sunrise Bistro if you find yourself facing an hour+ wait up there :) Cheap breakfast is becoming somewhat of a rarity downtown, and Sunrise Bistro is thankfully filling that role as my go-to choice! I didn’t want to like or try Sunrise Bistro Xpress at first, because I was sad that Black Bean Co. no longer occupied the space(I live so close). I am so glad I finally did venture over to their little spot for breakfast! I’ve gotten the breakfast burrito both times I’ve gone, and it’ll be hard to explore the menu further because it was SO delicious, huge, came with salsa and a big bowl of grits AND was only $ 7 altogether! The burrito is usually too big for me to finish, and as a non-meat eater, I was glad they offered to switch out my ‘choice of meat’ for lots of mushrooms! The bf has gotten the Morning Sandwich — bacon/sausage + egg + cheese on an everything bagel — both times as well($ 4). Sit out on the small courtyard patio if it’s nice out!
