My fiancé wasnt feeling well that day but Pete and Keli were able to turn that around. We had heirloom bloody marys and i ordered pimento cheese on evo bread, then i asked if they happened to have a broth in the kitchen and the chef actually prepared a soup for me that served as an elixir and made her feel like super woman. I highly recommend this farm to table atmosphere. Thank you glass onion.

So it’s Saturday night, and we do like to go out to eat as a date night. Our first choice was packed at 6:20, with a long wait. So we decided to try Glass Onion, it has been over 5 years since we last dined here. We arrived, greeted and were told at least a 30 minute wait. While we normally don’t wait that long for any place to eat, we thought we would tonight. So we ordered a beer and waited with others. While waiting, others arrived, some with reservations and they were seated ahead of us. Note — I would recommend reservations for a weekend night. After 35 minutes we were seated and finally ready to eat. Our server Carrie was friendly, and prompt at the beginning, but not acutely attentive. We wanted to start with the deviled eggs, but they were out, bummer. So we settled for the shrimp toast. Ugh, it was ok but just too greasy. We both ordered the roasted beet salads with goat cheese, and then we WAITED. Big time gap here, not sure why as Carrie never apologized for it. After a long 15 min wait the salads arrived. Now I will give due credit, the roasted beet salads were delicious. The beets were so sweet and perfect. Each had 3 pieces of bibb lettuce on bottom of salad bowel, then filled with a large amount of the sweet beets with goat cheese and pecans. This was what I expected here. For entrees we had the Calico bay scallops and the fried catfish. The scallops were over grits with collards & tomatoes in a light broth. The catfish was fried perfectly and served over white rice with crawfish étouffée. Only issues were rice was cold and the dish could use more étouffée. Both looked good, but were just average in flavor, and did not serve as extraordinary entrees. Overall, the food was good, but again nothing memorable or even above average. Well the exception being the roasted beet salad, you must try it. The service was a slight dissappointment, as the long gap of time was noticeable and not understandable. Not sure we will be back as there many other options in Charleston, and Mt. Pleasant.

So so glad I was on this side of town & got to try this great little happening spot. It’s got a trendy fresh cozy vibe which makes one happy to be here. They have a chalkboard with a huge selection of specials, predominately fish of local origin. I had the Shrimp Po Boy. Loved it & it was huge with fries. No greasy feeling & tasted very fresh. I absolutely loved it here & anytime I’m back in this area it will be my go to for lunch.

This place is a must stop, if your coming into Charleston on US17 you won’t be disappointed by your decision. I had the fried shrimp PO-boy and its was great, kids had meatloaf and they scarfed it down with no talking, so in my eyes it was good. Don’t forget to have dessert before your out the door the bread pudding is crazy good.

I am so behind in my reviews… One of our family stop was Charleston, SC in our Southern Ya’all Vacation Trip. We were looking for a place to have our dinner but we wanted somewhere close to our hotel and not sacrifice our tastebuds with a mundane meal. This was not the case here… we had the Catfish Fry w/Collard Greens, Beef Ratatouille, and I can’t remember what my daughter ordered… it was a shrimp dish. We totally enjoyed our dinner and would definitely hit the place again on our next visit. Menu changes daily. The atmosphere was casual and friendly(there was large group enjoying themselves and it turns out it was the owner’s family).

This is one of my top 5 favorite restaurants in town! Every meal has been absolutely fantastic: fried quail, grilled pork chops, pasta, duck, etc. The mac & cheese is a staple every time I visit as well as their deviled eggs. The boyfriend loves when they have oysters on the menu, particularly the Oysters Rockefellar. I’m not a seafood person but many people have raved about the shrimp and grits as well as their local fish offerings. This is a great place for an impromptu dinner for two or a larger group celebration. We’ve enjoyed fantastic service with a group as large as 10. Parking is tight, but you can always park in the larger lot a couple of driveways over and walk.

Always love this place! Always consistently excellent food, prepared with fresh, local ingredients, for vibrant flavors and presentation. While the food quality and the owner/chef’s pedigree is such that Glass Onion could easily be a fine dining establishment, it is apparent that the intent is for this to be a comfortable neighborhood favorite that is equally appropriate for casual weekday lunches and for impressive dinners with out-of-town guests. Our visits to Glass Onion never seem complete without starting with the mac ‘n cheese appetizer and a round of deviled eggs. Also, one can never go wrong with the fried quail. For my most recent visit I had a very unusual preparation of shrimp and grits, that seemed inspired by the seasonal turn toward autumn. Instead of the brown gravy with andouille sausage that is common(and which, I love) this dish came with cubed butternut squash and some kind of greenery. This item wasn’t on the night’s menu because the shrimp had come in off the boat late in the day. It was a wonderfully inspired twist on a Southern classic.

A review of The Glass Onion is long overdue for me. I fell in love with this place the moment I took my first bite of their amazing breakfast plate. Ever since I can’t stop going back. It calls out to me when I wake up on Saturday mornings. A temptation hard to resist even when I have to come from North Charleston to answer the call. The Glass Onion specializes in local ingredients and unique recipes. I’ve tried their breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and I have been extremely satisfied every single time. Even though each has been great breakfast is my favorite meal at The Glass Onion. There’s a plate that features eggs, grits, fried green tomatoes, and pimento cheese. I have to make special note of the last two things as they are above and beyond fantastic. The fried green tomatoes are crisp, juicy, and cooked to perfection every single time. The pimento cheese has a spicy kick that really takes it to the next level. Speaking of the pimento cheese they have an omelet overflowing with the stuff that is sure to make your belly happy. The staff is always really nice and friendly, and the coffee is always hot and strong. They also keep a nice local beer selection on hand that really cements this as a good place to stop in at any time. Stop in for a great meal and good atmosphere.

Everything here is good. I mean everything. If you are visiting from somewhere that doesn’t cook collards then this is the place to try them. My religion requires me to eat them every time I come here no matter what I order. They are compiling a nice wine list. Nothing fancy just good stuff at fair prices.
