Zen Asian Fusion

I always rave about this place because of the food. It’s amazing and fresh. But they are always out of certain things (just take it off the menu if you can’t accommodate) I’m giving this review 3 stars not because of the food. But the service !!! Everytime we go the service is so slow, wether they are short staffed or just lazy. I’m not sure. I took my son for his bday on a Sunday night and the bar was having a special event but wasn’t busy After 10 minutes of no one coming to our table I finally waved down a server. My dad asked the server if he was busy and the stupid comment that came out of the servers mouth was enough to send me into a rage. We never got his name, still waited another 10 mins for waters so we ordered an app because we were starving. That came immediately before our waters did. Finally we all order entrees and sushi. My son being upset the didn’t have anything from the menu that he asked for. I ordered a bunch of stuff I knew he would eventually eat An easy night a of birthday dinner turned into hours of waiting and starving and being bored I recommend this place for food but don’t expect anything from service staff or management.

Excellent service and food. Beautiful Asian restaurant which we always enjoy. My wife loves the sushi which she says is some of the best she’s ever had. Really cannot go wrong with anything.

One of my favorite lunch spots in West Ashley. The udon with beef or shrimp is my favorite dish here. You get a choice of salad or soup with it too! I’ve been going here for a few years, and they have been consistently good with service and quality of food. It’s a win-​win situation!

We got takeout to bring to Craft Conundrum. It was ready in a heartbeat and tasted delicious. Nothing better than quality sushi!

Great tuna, and execution is done with an artist eye. Sushi chefs take pride in what they serve and it shows in your taste buds. Interior is casual but it is very nicely done, trendy. Salmon wrap with white tuna instead of salmon was a winner, wish they had it as a roll option.

Seriously, we go here all the time! We live in West Ashley and today we met Shana! She was our server and she just has the best personality! The food is always great. Highly recommend the West Ashley and the SC Rainbow rolls. Thank you Shana again!

Excellent as always. Fresh and delicious. Love their Won Tony Soup, best I’ve had. Great place for Sushi as well.

My husband and I had lunch here on a Saturday. I was a little surprised that we had to wait about 10 minutes to be seated when there were several open tables. Once we sat down it took our waitress a few minutes to greet us. She apologized and stated that they were busy. I’m guessing they were short staffed. Food came out perfectly and it was delicious as always. We love this unassuming little spot and will be back.

Love this place, we have been there like 50 times and they do a great job every time. I would like to see the sushi menu change a little bit over the years. It literally doesn’t change. Also, I would love to see a Dim Sum Brunch.

I debated between two and 3 stars. Food wise for the price, it’s 2 stars. Ambience, service it’s 3 or more. Inside is quite nice. Service was on par.
Prices were mid to high range … especially when you got the food. Tuna was very blah in 3 dishes. 1 dish had an amazing dressing (tuna tartar dish I believe). Tuna tini was gross I felt, and the idea of eating out of a martini glass with chopsticks falls very short of what I think they hoped (perfect example of an idea that SOUNDS good … on paper).
There’s just way better places out there for the money…

Not my favorite. I don’t think it’s that much to come in to a beautiful restaurant with great ambience and expect to get something as basic as a lo mein that’s done right and hits the spot. It clearly missed the mark on flavor because the dish was bland, and when asked for more of the sauce that the dish came with I got instead some sauce that had a completely different flavor profile. My friends were done early, so i just mixed in enough to make it palatable and finished my dish. This is all coming from someone who has a soft spot for Americanized Chinese food, so I’m not expecting super authenticity here – just something that was well seasoned.

The outside of the business does not do it justice! I’ve probably passed by many times and not blinked, but it’s worth checking out, don’t be fooled by the dated exterior. The interior is very pleasant and stylish.
The menu is extensive and I am especially pleased to note that you can ask for tofu in most dishes it seems, so it’s more vegetarian friendly than it appears.
I had the Mei fun noodles with vegetables and tofu. I really liked how they did the tofu here (it can go very badly in some cases) it was in smaller pieces than I’ve seen elsewhere and it wasn’t mushy at all. I appreciate a non-​eww inducing tofu consistency.
My meal was massive. I was starving and ate a ton and still had plenty to bring home. I also appreciate good portion sizes that mean not having to carefully plan to have leftovers. Leaving full WITH a doggie bag is always a pleasant experience.
My two friends also loved their dishes. Everything was brought promptly and servers were very attentive. I would absolutely go back. There are tons of Chinese options so that this one warrants a return trip should say something!

I was very impressed initially. The place is gorgeous on the inside — very modern décor and clean.
I ordered the 2 sushi roll lunch special for $ 8.95– a California roll and a spicy crunchy salmon roll.
The staff was very polite and my food was ready quickly.
The sushi was not good. I’m so disappointed. I was really craving it, but for me it fell flat. The crunchy spicy salmon roll was neither crunchy nor spicy. The California roll was okay. Both were lukewarm which is totally off-​putting.
I will probably try them again in the future… but eat in the restaurant. Take out is no good.
So disappointed :((

Went to Zen tonight and loved the décor. My server was great. I’m giving 2 stars because it looked like there was a bug in my food and i stopped eating. They said it was garlic and I kindly told the manager I never saw garlic that looked like that. She continued to insists it was garlic. Her and my server were very kind and I don’t think they would deny it being a but if it truly was one but I couldn’t stop imagining eating a bug so I asked for the check. Everything else was fine. Sushi and crab Rangoon were tasty.

Husband and I have eaten here a couple of times. The customer service is usually very good! Servers are friendly and helpful and the restaurant is clean.
They are REALLY into soy paper rolls here which I was a bit surprised by but overall, every roll we’ve tried here has been amazing! We especially love the West Ashley roll! Also if you go with a large group and order a massive amount of rolls I’ve heard they style your choices into some cool or interested sushi architecture pieces.
Generally speaking though, plating of the rolls is always interesting even if you only order one or two.
Overall, even though it’s nowhere near where we live or work, we definitely always plan to return! Great food, great service, great place!

Sashimi was very fresh! We also had a couple of their popular rolls and the rest of the party really enjoyed them.

I visit this place every time we visit Charleston. The food and service are solid, but today, the service was beyond anything we have ever seen. Simply outstanding! Our server was Will, again did I say phenomenal? My family including two kids were impressed with him.
We ordered Tuna Dumplings and Shrimp Tempura as appetizers. We also ordered grilled shrimp with a delicious sauce and asparagus, Treasure Island roll, West Ashley roll and Crab Sticks. The food was simply amazing.
Now, here is the sour note of the evening. Shortly after we ordered our meal, a waitress brought us a hand roll, we immediately told her it wasn’t for us, she explained why it was for us and I indicated that we ordered meals with Will two minutes prior. She again insisted it was for us, a bit rude, however this time slightly more aggressive, so my wife got a bit upset and politely told her we didn’t ordered that to talent away. She of course went away furious and confronted our server Will, who I can see from a distance telling her it was for another table. The waitress came back to our table, apologized and stated it was for table 5!
Anyway, I requested to see a Manager before leaving the restaurant to convey our gratitude and feedback for such a fine service provided by Will. And guess what? That persistent waitress turned out to be the Manager. So here is my suggestion, be careful Manager, that bit of attitude could ruin a client’s dinning experience and not return once/​twice per month to drop between $ 80-​$ 100 each visit. Especially visiting from Miami and having so many choices to eat around Charleston, the jewel of culinary art in the U.S. None of less, I will be back. Top 3 service ever. You rock Will.

Zen never disappoints! Don’t let the looks deceive you. On the outside, it looks like an old Hardees or Pizza Hut or some other depressingly designed establishment, but the inside is nice and the sushi is the bomb dot com. I’ve been here multiple times for dinner and once for lunch (three rolls plus salad for 11.95? yes please.)
The service is great, the drinks are fun, and this is always my first place for sushi! And as for appz, the Tuna Dumplings are a must. The Tuna-​tini is good, but HUGE, and a little messy to eat. Tuna Dumplings win out if you are debating between the two.

Zen never disappoints. I have now been here twice and both times it was phenomenal. The staff is always very friendly and extremely knowledgeable about the menu. My first visit in I had the Mongolian Beef — scrumptious! The second time I ordered Crab Rangoon and Teriyaki Chicken. The Crab Rangoon — OH. EM. GEE. It was incredible. I would definitely make the trip just for those little pockets of goodness alone. The chicken was also very good, but that Crab Rangoon stole the show.
My friends ordered a variety of sushi (or rolls, I don’t know all of the lingo there) and they were very pleased! Although the place was hoppin’, the staff always came and checked on us, and I never found my glass near empty.
Definitely worth a visit!

Treating a friend to lunch for her Birthday, three of us headed to West Ashley for sushi at Zen. We got there a couple minutes before noon and the place was packed! I’d never been for lunch and really wasn’t expected a crowd so I was really happy for them because I’ve been a fan of Zen for some time now.
The lunch specials are a great deal. You can get one of the warm dishes for $ 8.95 including rice and soup or salad. The sushi specials all ranged from $ 8.95 to $ 16.95 and also come with a soup or salad. Two of us decided to order the sushi lunch, 5 pieces of sushi (Chef’s choice of the day) and a California roll. My other friend ordered the eel and avocado and tuna and avocado rolls.
I was looking forward to the element of surprise and thought I was going to be treated with 5 different fun and creative sushi rolls. Instead, we got what I thought was sashimi. You know, the raw cut of fish on top of a ball of sticky rice? That’s what I’ve always called sashimi!!. Anyway, it was tasty but not what I was anticipating. The salmon was by far the best bite of the meal for me.
The quality of the food here has always been stellar and even with how busy it was the service was timely. I can’t wait to head back and get the King’s Speech specialty roll. It is by far my favorite!
