In May of 2012 we hired Superb Concrete and Grading to pour an outdoor concrete patio. The patio was done incorrectly and looks unprofessional and has caused damage to the brick exterior of my home. Superb Concrete and Grading failed to order the correct amount of concrete needed and as he and his crew waited for the concrete company to deliver the needed amount of concrete, the concrete already poured began to harden. Once the concrete was delivered, they tried to complete the job but the concrete had already become to stiff for them to apply the correct brushed finish, so they brought a troweling machine to smooth out the unfinished patio surface. Superb Concrete and Grading proceeded to add dry concrete and water to the surface as they ran the troweling machine over the surface, this resulted in a very slick, and unsafe surface, all the while splattering dime to silver dollar sized chunks of concrete up against the brick exterior of my home and AC units. The owner of Superb Concrete and Grading reassured me not to worry, he would be able to fix the patio the following day. He returned the following day to cut the expansion joints and remove the frame of the patio, exposing sloppy side walls to the patio, with large pockets and large areas of unsmooth concrete. The entire edge of the patio is ridged. As a hose was ran over the patio to remove the dust from cutting the expansion joints, layers of the surface concrete began to lift/seperate. The owner claimed this all happened because the«concrete got away from him» but that he could fix it. We got the run around for several weeks, and when the owner finally returned to my home to discuss the appropriate fix, he said the only solution was to demolish and remove the patio and re-pour. He then proceeded to ask for an additional $ 800 to cover the additional work. Since we had already paid him, a professional for the patio, I refused, stating that the cost of any repair is on him, and that if he disagreed then he may demolish and dispose of the patio and give me a refund. The owner refused and stated we would have to sue him if we wanted any refund! We now have to hire a new contractor to demolish, dispose, and re-pour(the patio is like an ice skating rink when wet, and has exposed anchors/braces set in the concrete for the pergola that was supposed to go on the patio!), and we have to hire a professional brick cleaner to get the concrete splattered onto the exterior of my home removed(the owner of Superb Concrete and Grading said he would bring out a pressure washer and scrub it off himself, but that never happened either — and we have had estimates from a few professional brick cleaning companies and all have stated it cannot be done with a pressure washer, it will require some sort of acid wash!). We now have an eye sore in the backyard, not to mention we cannot comfortable enjoy due to the slick surface and expose anchors/brace.
