I went to the dinner portion as well, and maybe I didn’t eat anything but I still had a fun time catching up with the fellow Unilocalers as well as meeting just 30 or so of Annie’s closest friends that she doesn’t know yet. I’m sure it was going to be a fun night though, people were all hyped and ready to go! A pity that I had prior engagements before I headed out of town or I would have joined in on the revelry!

I would like to thank everyone who made this possible. Our biggest Light Rail Bar Crawl to date! Of course, only our second one. But it was awesome! Thanks to all who repped the Unilocal crew.

While I only made it to the dinner portion of this UYE, I am beyond impressed with the concept, enthusiasm and, hell, I’m even impressed by the t-shirts! It is what it sounds like — a bar crawl using the light rail. Buy a light rail pass and drink away while you explore the bars of South End and Uptown. Oh, and be sure to have a cab number or Zingo contact handy to get home safely. Since I only made it to McKoy’s, I’m unable to comment on the libations and festivities. However, it’s really worth noting that the servers and McKoy’s were exceptional. The party of light rail crawlers was at least 30 – 40 deep — and they handled the orders with abundant amounts of efficiency. Dishes came out quickly and correctly — that is no small feat for a party that large. They also split checks like they were going out of style. Bravo, McKoy’s…and bravo to the organizers and participants of this brilliant bar crawl!

I stuck with the big crowd for two(three?) stops on the light rail and three(four?) stops at pubs along the way. I’ve been to Unilocal events before, but this was a completely different sort of crowd. Young, very enthusiastic, animated and very much fun! A lot like Unilocalers, actually. First off, they had t-shirts. Printed with a light rail map and the bars that were part of the crawl. The hilarious part was that the maps on the shirts were all printed UPSIDE-DOWN. On purpose. So that the shirt owner could clearly see where they were headed. Don’t know what’s next? Separated from the herd? Just look down and read your shirt! Second, very cleverly planned. Starting with McKoy’s at Woodlawn for a beer and some ‘cue(Nicole’s review of the McKoy’s staff nailed it — they handled this massive crowed of 30+ with ease!), the bunch left as one and headed to Woodlawn. Uptown to East/West station, we all left the train together and went to Icehouse for a beer and a shot. Then over to Tyber South End for a beer and a shot. Back to the LYNX and a ride to Bland Street. Lux for a beer and a shot. I think you get the point? Tavern on the Tracks, Gin Mill South End. There were more, but I I left the crowd at Gin Mill because it was getting late and I wanted to catch the last train back to where I parked my car — at Woodlawn. Third, I met a whole bunch of great folks and I hit a bunch of bars I’ve never been to! Great times! I think the only downside to the event was that it was the night of NFL playoff games. So the places we went to were massively packed with sports fans cheering for Tebow(or cheering against Tebow, it’s hard to tell sometimes). I’m looking forward to the«third annual» light rail bar crawl. I’ll have a t-shirt!
