Excellent since day one, menu has added more super tasting dishes to make your dining even fuller than you could imagine.

I had the old dirty bastard it was pretty good! The staff was very friendly and the prices were excellent. The only problem i had was the collard greens! I don’t who the hell they have back there cooking those greens but the need a refresher or attend a soul food event cause the were horrible! Collards are not suppose to taste uncook, hard and with sugar! What the hell

We walk in and it’s smaller than what I expected but it’s still super cute and cozy :) we ordered off the chalkboard menu which I thought was a cool concept :) I got a make your own biscuit breakfast sandwich with chorizo, sunny side up egg and pimento cheese. OMG the flavors were just amazing ! I would love to come back for the bbq one day :)

Very good ! Before going look at menu on line — to make yours and their life easier – they do have a board with daily specials, as well. Don’t plan on eating there — that way if you do find a place to sit you will be even more happy(they do have outside tables for warm days). We tried numerous sides and a few biscuit sandwiches — everything was excellent although if you are eating in your car – have a real fork somewhere — the plastic ware they give out to go is silly to try and eat a messy, runny biscuit sandwich.

Incredibly mediocre food with unfriendly service. Maybe the other food is better, but the DOB was unremarkable and the chicken in the chicken and waffles was lukewarm and very, very hard. Probably won’t try again.

Hit the spot! Ace Burger incredible We did a drive by not certain if Ace is the place! It is… If coming by after dusk it is not well lit. Go on in! It is worth it!

Came here for a quick bite with some friends before going to the UVA vs. Tech football game. Shared the chicken biscuit with a side of the fried green tomatoes and gravy. Make sure to order the gravy! Could not get enough of it and definitely gave the meal it’s southern touch. The place is a hole in the wall, but worthwhile to give it a try.

This is the go to place for great southern cookin in downtown charlottesville. If you don’t like this cookin you do NOT know the south. I never had a fried egg in my life until I had it here. The fried chicken, the pulled pork, the fried green tomatoes, the waffles even the stewed apples! So southern virginia it makes your heart skip a beat– or maybe thats the chicken? Don’t skip the local honey option when they have it for your biscuits. Love the pickled pickles– pickles in vinegar. Truly amazing. A little pricey for BBQ. Staff is amazing. Don’t forget to ask for ketchup or bbq sauce because they’ll make it just the way you say. Best pairing for right after a long central Virginia hiking trip!

Interesting hole-in-the-wall for this college town. This place is in the residential area with literally only one table. The biscuit was good, but the sausage too salty for my taste. I did not realize that gravy is a side order so everything was on the dry side.

Came here for breakfast on Saturday. I ordered rib biscuit and my friend ordered fried chicken and waffles. We were very satisfied with our food! I was surprised that the egg went well with the rib biscuit. One downside was my friend’s fried chicken was a little burnt. Pros: Good breakfast food anytime Good price($ 6 – 8) Offers build your own biscuit(choose meat, cheese and egg style) Good service(after seeing my friend finished her syrup, the server gave her one more pack of syrup) Cons: Location(it’s off of downtown) Small restaurant The interior is casual or even soulful. I recommend to people who loves breakfast food.

Love this place. Hands down a favorite spot and a must try if you are visiting charlottesville. Folks, this place does breakfast. Which is brilliant. I can’t even. We got the rib biscuit with a fried egg, and a few sides of pulled pork to start our saturday. The biscuit and rib meat were divine. The egg? Perfection. The sweet tea topped it all off. We almost went back and ordered the same thing again(but we were trying to be somewhat normal human beings that day). Let’s see, other important tid bits… Ace is easy to get to, offers quick and friendly service, has indoor and outdoor seating, and parking was easy… only thing I would note(as I would with any BBQ place) would be to check the hours of operation before visiting. Kudos to the owners and BBQ masters!

4 stars for the chicken biscuit. Chicken was done so well and was juicy crispy and delicious. Egg cooked perfectly, pimento cheese, all on a biscuit. Biscuit was pretty dense but good. All in all a great sandwich that I would come back for 3 stars for the chorizo — pretty bland for chorizo 2 stars for brisket — wouldn’t order again. The slices consisted of half meat half fat with the meaty part incredibly dry, and flavor wasn’t there(had to soak in sauce) Prices are ok-$ 6 for a breakfast biscuit

A hole in the wall bbq joint in the middle of a neighborhood. Very cool vibe. Adding to that vibe are the guys working the counter. Super cool guys who were very helpful and personable. We had the Ace Dip, the Ace Burger, a grilled cheese with sharp cheddar, a side of fries, a side of greens, and a side of Mac and cheese. The Ace Dip was unique, I’ve never had a pulled pork sandwich like this. I’m not a big pulled pork guy typically, but this one is pretty good. I would recommend it. The onions were a nice touch, and I really liked dipping it in the gravy. The Ace Burger was a little underwhelming. I don’t recommend ordering this if you’re a burger guy/gal. The grilled cheese was pretty good. Plenty of cheese, the bread was smashed and cooked slightly well done… which I liked. The fries were very good. Pretty sure they cut them here. The Mac and cheese was also very good. Thick, not runny or loose, very cheesy. Typical of what you might find at a quality bbq joint. The greens were the worst part of my lunch. VERY bland. I’m pretty sure they were just greens and vinegar. No ham hocks, no seasoning that I could detect. The pro with the greens though is that they would be great for someone who is watching what they eat. Muy healthy. I recommend that you give this place a shot, it’s about 7 min off of 29. Worth the drive.

We were passing through Charlottesville on a Sunday and decided to stop here for some brunch. Its a bit off the beaten path in an unsuspecting area. I felt like we were turning into neighborhoods to get there. The place is tiny and has a handful of tables. There are a few picnic tables outside but it was hot so we decided to sit at a bar table facing the wall. It was right next to the trash and it was the only place available so we took it. The wait for food was a little longer than we anticipated given what we ordered. I got the flapjacks. They were tasty but very thin. Barely filled me up. I also got the hash browns. They had nice flavor but were cold. My fiancé got the chorizo and egg sandwich. He said it was pretty good but it was also tiny. We could smell the BBQ coming off the ribs of the guy next to us and when we left the line was out the door so I’m sure this place has good BBQ — I think we missed out. If we are ever in Charlottesville again I think we will probably try something new.

About a 2 – 2.5: Ace Biscuit & Barbecue has been around for about 3 years and owned by Brian Ashworth. The menu offers build-your-own biscuit sandwiches, breakfast specialties, lunch options(pulled pork, pit beef, smoked turkey breast, etc.), lunch specialties(burgers, Cubans, turkey dip, etc.), and even catering services. I tried their ‘Ol’ Dirty Biscuit,’ a breakfast specialty that seem to include a good variety(and, I was relieved that they served their breakfast goodies all day until they close). It was a biscuit that contained two pieces of fried chicken(very thick, juicy, and had a thin batter), a couple of slices of dill pickles, smoked pimento cheese spread(that was not melted), and an overwhelming generous amount of sausage gravy(that also kind of had an off-putting odor to it). The biscuit was a little too dense and on the hard side and was forgettable. The fried chicken could have been so tasty, but the sausage gravy was just all over the place(it really looked like sausage gravy soup, and the rest of the ingredients were just placed in it! Also, after a while, the sausage gravy’s odor was just a bit too strong and really made us lose our appetite!). I wasn’t a fan of the pimento cheese as it was just cold, and it wasn’t melted or anything onto the biscuit. I saw a smoker in an adjacent area of their eatery, and maybe I’d like to give their BBQ options a try the next time. The staff here were super friendly and nice, and there are some limited counter seating/some tables inside. Find the place wasn’t that difficult, as you just look for the pig drawing on the side of the building. There are also some few spots in front of the eatery to park your car. +dense/dry biscuits T___T +overwhelming amount of odorous sausage gravy T___T +okay fried chicken(?) +friendly staff +limited seating within(a table and some counter seating) +few parking spots in front of the store

As much as it pains me to admit this, as a southern woman, I am not a particularly good biscuit baker. So anything with«biscuit» in the title is going to pull me in. So on my last trip to C’ville, I decided to swing by Ace for a to-go order. I got the ‘make your own’ biscuit with country ham and smoked pimento cheese, both of which I was absolutely thrilled to see on the menu. The biscuit was big and yummy, and left me wondering why I can’t make one like this(I think I have a tendency to overwork the dough). I was thrilled to see such a big fat slice of ham sitting pretty on my biscuit and to have it slathered with a heaping mess of not just any pimento cheese, but *smoked* pimento cheese. Dang! That thing was good! Best of it, I got to wash it down with a proper glass of sweet tea. Thanks, Ace! I look forward to my next trip to C’ville to see you!

Ace Biscuit & Barbecue was one of the first places we tried when we moved to Charlottesville. Within being there for a couple of weeks, we heard multiple people singing its accolades. On my first visit, I was not eating meat, so I ordered three sides – the mac n’ cheese, the fried green tomatoes with pimento cheese, and the grits also topped with pimento cheese. I was filled to the brim with comfort food! I liked it, but I didn’t really get the hype. This weekend, we went back for our second visit, and I was blown away. I had a build-your-own biscuit with fried chicken, pimento cheese, and an over-easy egg. It was on point, ONPOINT I tell you. I thoroughly enjoyed every second of my meal. We also shared a side of fried green tomatoes with pimento cheese, which are always a favorite. This place is super divey, and not glamorous, but the food is why you’re there. Even if there is a line, it moves pretty quickly because they place is so small insides, it wil seem longer than it is. This is another great Charlottesville gem that is well-deserving of the hype!

«It’s a magical world, Hobbes, ol’ buddy… Let’s go exploring!» — Calvin from Calvin and Hobbes Charlottesville, VA – Road Trip #1 It was time for another road trip so I packed my bag and filled up the car with gas – I was heading west to the mountains. When my hungry eyes gazed upon the mountain range in Charlottesville, I almost wept after living in the flat Hampton Roads(HR). The first spot at my agenda was Ace Biscuit & Barbecue(ABB) for lunch. Owner and Chef Brian Ashworth has been serving up southern comfort food since 2012; they smoke their meats as well as making their homemade sides. ABB is located in the Rose Hill neighborhood and I actually drove right by the first time – it’s easy to miss it. The parking lot is quite small and can be full when it’s busy, but there is also street parking. The interior is tiny, but I was lucky – everyone left right after I ordered. ABB is a laidback type of place, which is pretty much like most places throughout the area. Maybe it has to do with the relaxed atmosphere, but it’s a huge difference coming from HR where the people are uptight, stressed, and impatient. There is a chalkboard menu on the wall and you order at the counter. I asked for the Chicken and Waffles and took a seat while I waited. The service was good and fast, but honestly – the entire experience was maybe twenty minutes. I shouldn’t be writing a review until I get a chance to check it out again, but who knows when I’ll be back? And now, drum roll please… The Chicken and Waffles was scrumptious! The waffles were fluffy in the inside, but a bit crispy around the edges. Chicken? Oh man… talk about moist! It was dark meat(my favorite) and the batter was perfection. When you top it off with maple syrup, it’s a heavenly combination of food love. I highly recommend you visit ABB.
