There is now a CVS on the Corner. I repeat. CVS. The Corner. Next to Little John’s. Where the Plan 9 used to be. Oh my, the travesty! Faceless chain stores in UVA’s historic neighborhood… let us unleash our contempt on all such institutions… oh except for that Starbucks a block away. And the Bank of America, we need that one too. The Subway up the street, no, that doesn’t count either… Welcome to 2009 at UVA. We love«local» but can’t live without«national.» As there is no centrally-located grocery store in Charlottesville, meaning one that you can easily walk to from UVA or Downtown without walking along a highway or through deserted lots, this CVS is filling a void… the void in the college population’s stomach, that is. Cereal and milk are very popular. I couldn’t find a yogurt drink unfortunately. I think they did have the Odwalla juice drinks. Yes for granola bars, ramen noodles, microwave meals… this place might put Cohn’s out of business. This CVS seems to have the trademark long lines and sullen staff. Once I was on the trolley and the trolley driver stopped in front of the CVS to run in and get something but we were sitting out there for at least 15 minutes before he reappeared. Also, I wouldn’t trust these people with my photos. I asked the photo employee some very simple questions about film processing the other week and her complete confusion was frightening.

Screw the integrity of The Corner, I love the CVS! Practically everything you need at a convenient location. True, its not as cheap as a real grocery store. You can get ramen six for a dollar at Kroger but only two for a dollar at CVS. but whatever, beggars can’t be choosers. Who wants to go all the way to Barracks all the time anyway? A few days ago I would have given it 5 stars but last time I went there was a distinct lack of my favorite product… Oak Lake wine for $ 4.49. Fingers crossed that it was just out of stock and isn’t gone forever. As a poor college student the Oak Lake Pinot Grigio was like a gift from Dionysus.
