The White Spot is to Charlottesville what In-N-Out is to the west coast. Cheap food that has earned a place in the respective region’s popular(eating) culture. The Gus Burger is Cville’s Double-double. If you’ve never been to the west coast, you probably have no idea what I’m talking about, but if you’re ever in Cville, The White Spot is definitely worth a visit!

Double Gus, all the way, served with fries. A perfect meal today, just as it was as an undergraduate decades ago.

Love a Gus Burger! However the restaurant, itself, isn’t very inviting and the staff isn’t always very welcoming… but the food is delicious!

You don’t go for the flavor. You go for that empty place in your belly when you are at the college end of town and you need to fill it with calorie laden culture, or just no nonsense calories. You go when you want to sit at the bar and feel like you’re a regular even though you’ve only been once. Get your short order diner fix and get it fast. Where else can you get donuts grilled in hamburger grease served with that tiny single serving, disposable cup of ice cream you got in elementary school. This is a diner and doesn’t pretend to be anything else.

How good the White Spot is directly correlates to your level of sobriety. For a late-night, drunken college student snack, the White Spot is great. The burger with the egg on top is a UVA favorite and hits the spot. If you’re looking for a good place to have a burger under pretty much any other circumstance, there are many better options in town.

Eating the Gus Burger is listed on the things to do before you graduate for good reason! Classic Gus Burger combo and other cheap food items on their plentiful diner menu makes for a good quick bite or a fulfillment of late-night munchies. If you’re looking for cheap eats and don’t mind a little grease in your food, White Spot is a great place to try at least once when you’re a student. Staff is friendly and serve your food up quick, and are unsurprisingly patient with the amount of drunk visitors at night. Pro tip: Their Gyro is also delicious. PS: Gus burger = single patty burger with fried egg.

White Spot is that place you go when it’s really late, you’re starving, and your friends aren’t sober. I mean what? Wait. Actually yes. This place is a quintessential college staple after you’ve stumbled out of Trinity, or wherever you hailed from. We’ve ordered the BLT, the fries, the classic burger with egg, more fries, and onion rings, with well, a side of more fries. The BLT was exactly what you’d expect, crisp bacon, mayo, a few pieces of lettuce, and a thick cut of tomato. The fries are the«we kind of feel like we came out of the freezer bag and into the fryer but the mystery stands» kind of deal. They’re crisp and they taste delicious in ketchup. I don’t know what it is but my people like this place because it’s salt of the earth, the servers are always good humored, and the crowd is lively after a certain hour. I’ve never eaten here during the day but I imagine you’ll get all the same elements minus some hijinks and hilarity.

Tasty as always. And always an experience, not just a delicious lunch and breakfast in a burger, but good conversation with Sam. I prefer the egg sunny side up — the messier the better. Today’s was a 6 napkin motorburger and Cindy’s was a 4 napkin turkey Gus. By the way, the turkey burgers are some of the best we ever had. Love the spot whether it’s 3 or 10 in the morning, or afternoon lunch or lining the stomach for a night out on C’ville.

This is a local dive joint that I’m sure college students stumble into after a long night of drinking to eat something greasy to soak up all the alcohol. Eating it for dinner at 8pm wasn’t the best meal ever but I can appreciate it for what it was. For $ 4.25 you get a single juicy patty topped with whatever you want and a fried egg(Gus burger). There are various other diner foods you can order for a cheap price as well. My bf ordered a Gus combo and I got a Gus burger. I ate half and couldn’t finish it because I was already full. Don’t go in expecting a fancy shmancy burger but if you’re looking for a quick bite this is a good place to stop in and try.

If you’re visiting town and want to experience Charlottesville, this is the place. It’s affordable like two people can eat for 15 bucks affordable. I go for the Grilled Cheese. If you’re a vegan they clean the grill spot for you. Super Nice.

I had the bacon egg and cheese sandwich. My wife had the ham egg and cheese sandwich. Both were great and you can’t beat the price.

They say you always remember your first time. Your first glass bottle Coca-Cola. Your first McDonalds french fry. Your first Frosty. Your first Waffle House experience. Your first Chik-Fil-A sandwich. Your first spicy chicken. Your first Chicago hot dog, deep dish pizza, Italian beef. What first did you think I was talking about. I will always remember my first burger with a fried egg on top, and it was at the White Spot on a school arranged college tour to the University of Virginia. The Gus. It’s everything I had both dreams and nightmares about… and it was nothing short of a dream! This is the perfect greasy spoon diner where one erases a nights hangover or a days hunger with the perfect combination of breakfast(fried egg) and lunch/dinner(cheeseburger)

One of the best places to eat on the corner; perhaps the best. The staff is incredibly friendly, funny and talkative, and the food is never a disappointment. They have a variety of different, delicious breakfasts, as well as the classic Gusburger(which lives up to its hype of being a must have). If you want something sweet, get the grills(fried donuts) with ice cream.

Food was good(Ham and cheese omelette came w toast.) good size~4eggs? Just one dude working solo. Understaffed, he can’t do a good enough job by himself. He mumbles pretty bad and is hard to hear. Missed my order for bacon. Trying to cook while handling money seems sketchy too.

Came in shortly before midnight looking for a late night dinner. I wish I’d gone somewhere else, but the gyro platter I had was good, but they give you ENTIRELY too many french fries. Just way way too much. I didn’t even finish. Place smelled funny when I was in there.

While perusing Pinterest for an upcoming trip to Charlottesville, I came upon the White Spot. After salivating reading about the Gus Burger I decided that we would hit this place for lunch. Coming in the place is tiny but very welcoming. I ordered the Gus Burger no cheese and my husband ordered the One Hell of a Mess. My Gus Burger was cooked to perfection. It was my first time trying fried egg(long story) and man have I been missing out. The burger got better with every bite! My husband enjoyed his One Hell Mess but with three eggs it was too much food for him. The service was good. One thing though there were only two on staff and we had to wait for them to make and charge other customers ordering to go before we could pay for our meal. With that being said, this place is a spot that I would return to once again.

To be honest I may be a bit generous. I think this is a solid 3.5 stars. White Spot is nestled amongst the campus area of UVA. The staff were friendly and the food was good. I got«One Hell of a Mess», which comprised of toast, covered in sausage gravy with 3 fried eggs on top. Also there were breakfast potatoes on the side. A lot of food for $ 7.95! If I were to get it again I would probably ask for french fries instead of the breakfast potatoes. As a potatoes were a little undercooked and hard. There homemade hot sauce was really good also. They take credit cards.

Drunk Joy: three Gus burgers and a large order of fries. This came right after seeing two sorority girls vomit all over each other on the bench right outside, so clearly my mental state was severely compromised. The bun was kind of stale, the beef patty was gritty(like it was full of sand or mushed up bones), the egg was meh, and this combination of ketchup and mustard shot out like a snot rocket and permanently stained my shirt. My friends still had to drag me out of there, because apparently I kept saying such nonsense as «ten more burgers please.» Sober Joy: one Gus burger and felt sick for the whole day. Maybe you need your throat to be sufficiently lubricated in vodka to keep that whole mess down. Plus the place is the paradigm of the beer goggle phenomenon. When you stumble in here at around 1 am, the place looks warm, comforting, and bright; Dmitri the Owner’s grin at your three burgers looks fatherly and proud, and the workers’ shouting, mixed with the drunken ramblings of undergrads, makes you feel right at home. When you march in here at 4pm of your own volition, the place is downright drab, the walls are covered in stains, and Dmitri the Owner is leering at your skirt. But I’m still coming here next Thursday night.
