A small group of friends, my husband, and I met up at Boylan Heights for some beer and a meal. I was blown away by the food! My husband and I shared the BLT and a side of tater tots and let me just say they mean business with their BLT! It was absolutely delicious with tons of meaty bacon, not just the thin, fatty bacon and to top it off it is served with a buttery croissant. I can’t wait to go back!

Can’t really say too much, because I only had drinks, but I can tell you what happened, and that their wait staff were extremely accommodating given my situation. Rewind to three days ago. I matched with a girl on Tinder and agreed to meet at 2:30. Now, being the person I am, I show up around 2:20 to secure a table and put my best foot forward. 2:30, no date, but you know how girls are. The waitress asks if I’d like to order a drink now while I wait, but I kindly decline. 2:45, still no date. As it starts getting closer to 3:00, the waitress comes back around and notices my date still hasn’t shown up. I decide to wait a little longer, and sensing my fear of being stood up, the waitress offers to buy me a drink. This time, I accept, and FINALLY get a text saying that she was caught in a meeting at school and didn’t have her phone on. The date went swimmingly from that point, and the girl and I spent about 4 hours talking and drinking and getting to know each other better. She decided to pay for her half of the bill for being late, but my bill, for two beers and two cocktails came out to just $ 12. I hear they have great burgers too, so next time I’m up at UVA, I will definitely have to stop back in. Great drinks and very sweet waitstaff. Easy A.

I was visiting a friend and we went to Boylan Heights for dinner on a Friday night. Everyone customized their burgers and they came out delicious, the only thing I would have liked to add was how well the burger was cooked but the chefs did a good job. Curly fries with cheese were also delicious. The Wahoo house drink was recommended to us and it did not disappoint! Staff was friendly and quick, and the outdoor tables are the perfect spot to people watch on The Corner.

1hr wait on a burger and the manager sat down and ate beside us before we even got our food… Fuck this place, customer service sucks!!! Is this a mom and pop… plus side there’s tons of underage girls in miniskirts!!! If that’s your thing

Good food fast! We stopped in for a couple of drinks and burgers during lunch on Sunday. Only bad part is that they charged me extra for lettuce and tomato on my burger… shouldn’t that come with it regardless?! Anyway, it was still good. Service was ok.

Again, no idea why all the negative reviews. First, the atmosphere is indeed college. But in a good way! It doesn’t feel too neglected or dirty. Now, the burger. The patty itself makes it. So tasty and juicy. I challenge you to find another one of this quality nearby. The homemade bun is buttery and soft. The toppings all fresh. My only gripes are the curly fries could be crispier and the beer a touch cheaper. Bottom line: go.

I don’t have much to say about Boylan Heights, as I was only there for maybe an hour and I didn’t get any food or alcoholic beverages so I can’t vouch for anything they serve. What I CAN vouch for, however, is the way the place is setup and the music they play. We were there on a Saturday night after the VT-UVa game in November. The layout of the bar is pretty unique. We were upstairs and there were a ton of tables, a few couches for friends to lounge on, and of course a couple open areas near the bar. Also, TV’s EVERYWHERE. You could watch any game from any spot. The music they were playing was good enough for me and my friends to take notice. I don’t know what they regularly play, but they were rolling out 90’s hit after 90’s hit that evening. Perfect volume, too, I might add. This will be on my list of places to return to whenever I get back to Charlottesville.

Great and delicious burgers, cool drink specials, delicious curly fries and crunchy tater tots, and good service! Nachos are fantastic too! Everything is in an incredibly large portion, and great prices too!

I really enjoyed my Saturday lunch at Boylan Heights. It made me reminisce about my college days(I went to UVA). My GF and I sat next to a table of really cool looking college guys who had hotties rolling by in cars yelling catcalls out the windows at them. The service and food was good too. I had the grilled chicken sandwich.

This place is close and convenient for me so I’ve been here a few times. The first time I came, I was impressed by the burger and thought it was gourmet indeed. I’ve also had the tater tots and red velvet milkshake on other occasions, and they can definitely satisfy a fatty food craving… however the last time I came here, I ordered the Model UN and it was a solid block of mediocre. It was about 5 inches tall and completely incompressible. I had to eat it in pieces, with a fork, which meant I couldn’t experience all the flavors together. The ingredients were plain and not very fresh, including a beefsteak tomato, lettuce, too much sour cream. The patty was overcooked and kind of hard. Generally meh.

Fun college hang out. Gets packed. Drinks are cheap but decently strong. Shuffle board on the second floor. Lots of tvs for sports watching. Solid place to grab some drinks and be amazed by what those wacky college kids are doing these days.

I’d been here several times over the past 2 years prior to leaving this review. Something has definitely changed in the last 8 months and I cannot recommend this place as a result. The burgers were below average and the fries had no flavor. The meat on the nachos was bland and it seemed to be frozen and reheated. My son, who is not picky, refused to eat his food as something was just off about it. My husband ended up sick for several days after eating here. I wish they would go back to the brands that they used a few years ago. While I understand wanting to utilize local and seasonal items, if you don’t know how to prepare them, don’t use them.

What’s not to love about Boyland Heights? We try to come before nearly every UVA basketball game and always have very good food, friendly service and a million TV screens tuned to various sporting events. The BBQ nachos are a favorite of our kids! I got my first salad last time and it was incredibly tasty and alleviated my guilt of the burgers(which are fab). Great beer selection too!

The food was decent for a bar. they have a lot Of burger options with creative variations. The beer selection is also pretty good all the basic plus a little local and imported. Not very good beer specials for the area. Upstairs has a big projector for all the football games a major plus but beware at night! This is not going to stay a restaurant. Turns into a typical college bar with a few late night menu items. All in all if you’re looking for a quick bite and wanna catch the game go for it. But If you are looking for a great burger-try elsewhere.

Another place I’m giving 4 stars as a good college bar if your in your 20s. I would rate probably a 2 star but that wouldn’t be fair since they are not catering to my demographic as I have aged up. Complaint would be it smells like a college bar and stale beer and not the cleanest. Positives I like the build your own burger concept(we didn’t stop in to eat though). Cheap pitchers of beer. Big college crowd. If your in college a your probably going to love the place. If not your probably staying clear.

Collegiate themed burger and bar joint. During the day you can find a sampling of what UVA’s Corner scene has to offer from tourists, to undergrads, to faculty, and UVA staff alike. People flock here when they’re looking for a burger, beer, and the ever constant game on tv. What I personally like about Boylan would be the DIY scantron menu to build your own custom burger and side. My friends and I are usually pretty happy with what we create barring the one time we thought it would be a great idea to select every possible sauce(hint: we made a grave mistake). However, despite that terribly awesome idea, we generally love the food here. Did I mention they pay homage to some very iconic college films such as Dead Poets Society and Rushmore. Yeah, how can a place go wrong with a giant painting of Schwartzman on the wall? Did I mention their patio is dog friendly? Yep. If you’re bringing fido, come during slower times like before/after lunch rush and right before the dinner rush on an arbitrary week night since the outdoor area can get very busy. The servers are nice and do a solid job. Lastly, this is one of my favorite places to get tots. Yeah, ya heard.

Signature burgers are cleverly designed! The combinations are clever. I always get the western civ because of thee bacon and egg. Tater tots for the win! Not the best burgers I’ve had but definitely Up there.’

Bring back the old Boylan! Once a lunchtime favorite of mine, now a disappointment. Boylan has recently undergone a menu/service re-vamping of sorts. Their buns have changed, their sides have changed, heck even their plates have changed! I typically view change as a good thing, but not when it means dry burgers and more expensive side salads. I just want my old Foreign Exchange Burger back

This is only the second time I’ve eaten at Boylan Heights. I looked at both the menu and the«burger bar» menu. After looking at both I decided to build my own burger. I wasn’t sure if my choices would equal a good meal, but I was surprised in a good way when it was amazing! The server was great and the tables outside in the shade were fantastic(if you don’t mind a little street noise). After eating here again, I’d definitely go back. It was nice to enjoy it while the UVA students were out of town, on a quiet week day.

Went here during happy hour which is until 7pm. The special is $ 3 for draft beers, which is not bad. They have a pretty good selection of draft beers too. The bartender at that time was really helpful in deciding which beers to try. There is seating outside should you decide to be out in the open. We opted to be inside for the AC since it was hot and humid outside. As for the food, I decided to build my own burger for $ 8.99(good price). The beef burger I made had goat cheese, sautéed mushrooms, fresh jalapeños, Boylan and sriracha sauces. I got tater tots for my side. The meal itself was okay, not bad but not the best I’ve had. I would recommend coming here for happy hour after work(if you work nearby) to watch sports games and maybe a bite to eat if you’re hungry.
