Flats at West Village

This place is atrocious. The management is absolutely absurd, it’s overpriced, nothing functions properly, and there is no cohesion among staff. They moved people in when the building was still under construction and none of the furniture or appliances were assembled (which, for the appliances and running water at least, is illegal). Many appliances were not installed properly. Half the staff in the office is lovely and helpful, the other half acts as though you’ve sincerely inconvenienced them by asking to pick up your mail. The fire alarms go off at all hours and only half the time is there ever an apology, and none of the time is there a real explanation. This is particularly insane as this place is for certain a cheaply-​built firetrap. They can’t fill the building (probably because it’s overpriced for Charlottesville student-​run market) and instead of offering a discount to current tenants that would cut them some slack on rent for resigning, they threatened that no one would be guaranteed their current room if they didn’t resign by at a higher rate by December.
The Flats simply aren’t tolerable. Now 6 months after opening they are still experiencing problems inexcusable after the first week, and there doesn’t seem to be any signs of it improving in the years to come. The management company should be belly-​up within the next year.
