My first time here after walking by so many times! Lol. Love their Torta Rustica! My new favorite baked dish. It’s kind of drizzling out and cold… this hot meal is perfect. Yum!

Terrible Americano(overly hot and taste of burnt drip coffee). Staff at night are high school kids who seemed to not care much about patrons.

Poor service, unfriendly employees, extremely overpriced. Food comes half heated up. Desserts are ok but that’s it

On a rainy drizzly day a cup of tasty butternut squash soup, cup of hot herbal tea & freah baked pumpkin muffin was a welcome & comforting treat. Cakes & baked goods looked & smelled great. Cute & fresh café & bakery find here in Charlottesville.

Nutella: latte, hazelnut and chocolate is really delicious. I would skip cake for this. I also like mine with an extra shot, and couple of ice cubes so you can enjoy it right away without burning your tongue. Thumbs up

I got the vanilla napoleon, the sloan cheesecake, and the hazelnut lemon cake. The napoleon was awesome and is the only thing I would return for. The cake was average– the filling was good but the cake sponge wasn’t very moist and the frosting on the outside was so hard that it felt inedible. I wasn’t a fan of the cheesecake either, it was very soft and creamy but had an off taste to it. It was not very sweet either.

I’ve been coming here for years and have never been disappointed. Great coffee. Great service. The best flourless chocolate cake in Charlottesville. I noticed the three star rating and felt compelled to write this because the place is absolutely solid. I travel all over and to keep coming back to a place it has to be good. The biggest negative is that it’s in the barracks road shopping center, other than that it’s perfect.

My first time eating at HotCakes was a great experience. The owner overheard me tell an employee I had never dined at HotCakes and his response was, «Here, try this pumpkin muffin while you think about what you want.»(ITWASGREAT!) He continued to bring us bites to try, which were all delicious — especially the chicken salad! I ordered the Fried green tomato BLT which was good! I’d definitely recommend this place for a nice brunch/lunch outing!

I love hotcakes. Great atmosphere plenty of seating and some really good food. Best Americanos in town and the best pumpkin muffins as well. Make sure you get on their email specialist as they offer discounts every month

Cute place to grab a cup of coffee and study. My friend and I got a couple of slices of their cheesecakes since that’s what they are known for. The Sloan cheesecake and peanut butter pie were delicious! I’m not usually a big cheesecake person but I enjoyed both very much. The only downside was the limited seating in the morning since it was pretty busy but other than that I enjoyed my visit here.

I have gone to hot cakes for many years while I lived in cville and when I visit. However after being diagnosed with celiac I will not return. There is an extremely limited selection I can eat. The owner was defensive showing me where the one muffin of the day usually is. In this day and age of heathy eating I find this a bit backward especially the lack of interest to expand. Another place in cville had DELICIOUS gluten free rolls etc. so all things are possible.

Wanted to have breakfast since the pastries looked and smelled so good. However I have a gluten allergy so asked about anything that I might eat. That morning there was nothing that I could have so I had to go elsewhere for breakfast. Please have at least some offering for those of us who cannot tolerate gluten.

Hit or Miss Hit: any and all of their bakery items. The Sloan’s Cheesecake especially is fabulous(it’s more of a cheese pie, very very creamy, as opposed to the dryer New York style). Miss: their salads and entrees. I’m a huge fan of places like this that have cases full of interesting gourmet prepared foods, but I find these overpriced, and pretty average. They may look pretty and sound good, but I have been consistently disappointed with their execution. To sum up, don’t bother getting lunch or dinner there, but make it your go-to place for desserts!

I got a café latte and a slice of Sloans cheesecake. The coffee is super strong, in a good way and the cheesecake was very creamy with a hint of lime in it and a blackberry on top! The only downside is that it’s slightly expensive. I’ve also ordered catering from here before(desserts) and be warned each serving is super small! Otherwise really liked it!

Yum, yum, yum, yum! My friend and I stopped in here while driving through Charlottesville from a gal’s weekend in WV. My friend had been in before for desserts but had never eaten a meal here and I wanted to get something fairly healthy after a weekend with the gal’s in WV and figured I’d bring my fiancée back something sweet. The sweets are just inside in a display case on the right while the meal options are in a large display case just ahead. They have a decent amount of seating inside also with wifi. They have tons of healthy options here and I was very impressed. There was a quinoa pie with squash. They had lamb and salmon sliders which my friend ordered and loved. She absolutely raved about them. They also had salads(of the healthy variety). I ended up sampling the curry chicken salad and the original chicken salad and loved them both but I ended up going with the original on their sunflower seed bread with a side of their seaweed salad. YUM. I also ordered an iced chai which was pretty good. It was a bit weak but it wasn’t terrible. My sandwich was amazing — the chicken salad was served on the AMAZING sunflower seed bread simply with lettuce and tomato and it was really really good. I love a good chicken salad and this would be on my list of tops. The gal behind the counter was really sweet. As it was Easter Sunday they weren’t especially crowded anyway — so we talked to her for a bit and asked a ton of questions about the food options behind the counter, her favorites, the tastes, etc. She didn’t rush us at all, she was really friendly and sweet and answered all our questions with good humor. When we’d finished eating we went back up to order some sweets and asked a few more questions — she came over to help us again and I ended up bringing my fiancée home a slice of their salted caramel chocolate cake and a vanilla Napoleon. I loved the shopping center this place it located in and was surprised to see all the speciality stores like Francesca’s, Origins, White House Black Market, etc. in Charlottesville. I didn’t realize there were so many options there — so this place is located in a fantastic shopping area with loads of shopping and other food options. I will def. make it a point to stop in here when traveling through C-ville to head home from now on.

This is a cute little restaurant/bakery. I cannot attest for the meals that they serves only on the bakery selection. However, I will say that this place has variety of vegetarian options. Also, they have a variety of side options from sweet potatoes to kimchi so there is something for everyone. As for the baked good items they had cheesecakes, tiramisu, pies, cakes and cupcakes. I had the red velvet cupcake and it was to die for. It taste like they use real cream cheese frosting and make the cake from scratch. The only downside is that the cupcake is a little small for $ 3 but then again the quality makes up for the size.

We went here for the first time the other day and the owner helped us pick out some amazing baked goods. He was so friendly and kind and even gave us samples. They obviously really care about the quality of the cakes there. We absolutely loved the apple bread and the chocolate sin cake, and we’ll definitely be going back!

Strawberry puff really worth a try. I don’t like food which is too sweet, this puff taste perfect. Napoleon is sooooo sweet for me. Tiramisu is perfect.

Too bad, could have been nice. I ordered English muffin well toasted and small cappuccino. I got English muffin barely warm, not well toasted, and a huge cup with what I would call a latte. Staff not very friendly, just there to do a job. Customer service needs to be improved here. Lovely shop with lots of sweets on display as soon as you walk in the door. Just need to listen to customer.
